Also joining the site is Starcrossed, a Web-only series about the behind-the-scenes antics of a science-fiction space soap. The show is written by Stargate Atlantis' David Hewlett and executive produced by Stargate Atlantis/SG-1's Jane Loughman and John G. Lenic.

Sci Fi Channel Green-Lights Battlestar Galactica Prequel, Caprica

By Anne Becker -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/18/2008 8:01:00 PM

With the original about to begin its final season, the network is set to begin production on the two-hour prequel from its creators, Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, this spring in Vancouver.

Sci Fi announced its plans at its annual upfront presentation to advertisers and press in New York Tuesday night. It originally announced its intention to do the show in April 2006.

Caprica is set 50 years before Battlestar Galactica and will follow two rival families and the backstabbing and passion involved as they evolve in the world of the 12 Colonies.

The show, from Universal Media Studios, is executive-produced by Moore and Eick and co-written by Moore and Remi Aubuchon.

"We couldn't be more excited to see this long-anticipated project get off the ground," Sci Fi executive vice president of original programming Mark Stern said. "It's an amazing script and, though clearly inspired by the Battlestar mythology, it is not just a pale spinoff. This is a smart, thought-provoking, emotional and compelling character drama in its own right."

Writer Arthur C. Clarke dies at 90

By RAVI NESSMAN, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka - Arthur C. Clarke, a visionary science fiction writer who won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future, died Wednesday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, an aide said. He was 90.

**snippage**

Co-author with Stanley Kubrick of Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey," Clarke was regarded as far more than a science fiction writer.

He was credited with the concept of communications satellites in 1945, decades before they became a reality. Geosynchronous orbits, which keep satellites in a fixed position relative to the ground, are called Clarke orbits.

He joined American broadcaster Walter Cronkite as commentator on the U.S. Apollo moonshots in the late 1960s.

Amanda talks more about Sanctuary and Stargate and Stargate Ark Of Truth. This transcript features some material not used on my podcast.

Amanda Tapping on Stargate Direct To DVD movies

"It's been really fun just to get the gang back together and there is such a sense of joy working with these people. I sound like I'm towing some party line but it's true. The timeline for the movies is prior to Sam's going to Atlantis. Even though they are obviously coming out after. When I talked to the writers and the producers about this, I asked if there was a concern about me doing these movies and then suddenly I'm on Atlantis. It's the same character so there has to be some sensibility of the timeline. they said they are not concerned about it. The movies happen before she goes to Atlantis. So I said, OK, That's fine with me."
