Battlestar Galactica: Katee Sackhoff conference interview
With the fourth and final season of Galactica airing in the US next Friday, Starbuck actor Katee Sackhoff engages a gaggle of journalists for a long chat...
by Martin Anderson
"We've been told who the final Cylon is, and I personally don't believe it. I think that's something that's going to be kept to the very end."
At 1pm EST, Battlestar Galactica's Starbuck, actor Katee Sackhoff, gave a long interview to a host of journalists from print and web publications that included the New York Times, Redeye, Cablefax, Niagara Frontier Publications, Soap Opera Weekly, e-online and many more.
Geek was there, and even if a gremlin meant we didn't get to ask our late question (one per publication was allowed), Katee held forth on many topics...
**snippage**
When Starbuck was temporarily killed off last season, it seemed like it was clumsily handled, the issue of whether you were actually gone and the show’s reaction to it...looking back, do you wish it had been handled a little better or not mentioned at all? Is there anything you would have played differently?
KS: "I don’t know. I know that you can only keep a secret a secret for so long; I know that as soon as I showed back up at work that it was going to be on the internet. Also I do think they should have kept me out until the very end. I mean, bringing Starbuck back in episode 16…what the hell was that? Why not wait ‘til twenty? I guess in Ron’s mind, he had a bigger cliff-hanger, and to have a bigger cliff-hanger than Starbuck coming back from the dead…only Battlestar Galactica could pull that off. With the crew and the cast thinking…that was not something I’d like to do again, that’s for sure."
**snippage**
What do you think the impact of the show has had for the sci-fi genre?
KS: "Battlestar Galactica, for sci-fi was…they treated it like reality. That’s what has been so interesting about our show, that we never relied on science-fiction to drive the show. We relied on the drama and the human condition…those really important questions were what we depended on for the show to move it along. Most science-fiction shows rely way too much on the bells and whistles. I think it’s opened doors in science-fiction to realise that regardless of…science-fiction is just a setting. It’s not a show, it’s a setting. It should never have been what the show is."

From Just Giving:

About the charity : Hearing Dogs For Deaf People
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert their deaf owners to sounds such as the telephone, doorbell or smoke alarm. Most dogs are selected from rescue centres, giving unwanted dogs useful and happy lives to the benefit of deaf people.
Charity Registration No 293358
Thank you for taking the time to visit our page.
Gabit Events Ltd have been organising Events for the Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis actress Amanda Tapping and her fans for four years and a major feature of those Events has been the fundraising we have undertaken on behalf of the UK charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
To date over £29,000 has been raised and this has enabled Amanda’s fans to sponsor five hearing dogs, as well as providing additional funds for other purposes. It takes £5,000 to train and support a hearing dog throughout its lifetime and we are hoping to add a sixth dog to the ‘Gabit Kennel’ in 2007.
Our next Event,
AT3 – Amanda Tapping A Weekend with her Fans - Reunion
will take place in May and this site has therefore been set up with the aim of raising enough money to sponsor another hearing dog in Amanda’s name. It is open to anyone who would like to support this charity, whether they are attending our Event, or not.
Donating through this site is the Charity’s preferred method of receiving funds. It is fast, simple, secure and if you are a UK taxpayer you can gift aid your donation in which case an extra 28% will be added to your gift at no extra cost to you.
So please feel free to be generous.
You are able to leave a personal message for Amanda when you donate and these messages will be given to her in person in May.
You can read more about the work of the charity on their website at http://www.hearingdogs.org.uk where you can find a copy of their online catalogue for Christmas cards and gifts, the sales of which provide a valuable source of income to the charity all year round.

Battlestar Galactica - SciFi Weekly: Olmos, McDonnell, Moore Interviews

INTERVIEWS

Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell and Ronald D. Moore look ahead to the end of Battlestar Galactica
By Ian Spelling
Earlier this week, SCI FI Weekly caught up with Battlestar Galactica actors Tricia Helfer, Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff, as well as executive producer David Eick, to discuss the April 4 start of Galactica's fourth season on the SCI FI Channel and the fact that the current season will be the show's last.
Here, in additional interviews conducted in New York City at SCI FI Channel's 2008 upfront presentation to advertisers, stars Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, along with executive producer Ronald D. Moore, weigh in on the issues.
Ronald D. Moore, how prepared are you to let the show go?
Moore: Oh, it's hard. It's been such a great ride. It's been such a great experience. It's going to be hard to let it go and to know that there's not a Battlestar sitting up in Vancouver anymore. So it's bittersweet at best.
How will season four differ from what's come before it?
Moore: Well, season four is different in that this season it's one long, continuous season. It picks up, literally, where season three ended, in real time. Lee [Jamie Bamber] and Kara [Katee Sackhoff] are still on their Vipers. The Final Four have just revealed themselves. We're in the middle of what's about to be a space battle. We just pick up in real time, and then it's sort of one long story that branches off in a lot of different directions. There's going to be a lot of shakeup in the Cylon world. A lot of divisions are forming. Different alliances and counter-alliances form over there. Starbuck comes back and says she's been to Earth, and there are immediate questions of who believes, who doesn't believe her. What is she? Do we trust her? Is she a Cylon? Isn't she? That develops its own long storyline. There are a lot of different things that are in motion.
**snippage**
Mary McDonnell, how sad and/or relieved are you that the show is coming to an end?
McDonnell: I'm very sad to let go of the world. I think that's going to be difficult, because it's been an extraordinary opportunity to kind of externalize what we're going through. So it's been a real gift as an artist to be able to play in the realm. It's very hard to let go of the people. But I am very excited about completing this saga. I find that the energy going into the last nine, and knowing that we're completing the telling of the story, is a very unusual experience on television. You have the choice to go ahead and finish the story, and it's very specifically laid out to be bookended. So on that level I'm thrilled. I think it's a great idea. But I honestly don't even know yet what kind of hole it's going to leave. I'm probably just going to have to work for Hillary [Clinton] or something.
**snippage**
Edward James Olmos, how ready are you to get back on set and close out the Battlestar Galactica saga?
Olmos: I would love to just take the slowest, slowest train we can. This is really going to be a very, very sad ending on all the levels. The storylines are very, very dark. The fact that this is the final season, the fact that we won't work with this ensemble again, it's really heartbreaking.
A lot of people were surprised that you actually signed on for Battlestar Galactica ...
Olmos: I was surprised!

Katee Sackhoff talks Battlestar Galactica
Early this afternoon (at least for me here on the east coast), Katee Sackhoff participated in a conference call with reporters, discussing her part as Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, both in seasons past and the upcoming final season of the series.
A brief excerpt:
* She said this seasons definitely going to shock people and probably ruffle some peoples' feathers. Be prepared to see things not all wrapped up nicely with a bow at the end of the series.
* Originally Starbuck was being cast as being a 35 year-old woman, but then they went with her.

Battlestar Galactica
10:00 PM - SCI FI
Yeah, well, the TV movie "Razor" was good and all -- but it's not what "BG" fans really wanted. What they really wanted was to know the confirmed identities of the remaining cylons, a good excuse for the implied mystic mumbo jumbo -- and Starbuck. In the final season starting tonight, they should get some resolution. Katee Sackhoff, Edward James Olmos, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Michael Hogan and Tricia Helfer return.

Erica Cerra, who plays Deputy Jo Lupo on SCI FI Channel's original series Eureka, told SCI FI Wire that she'll co-star in the upcoming SF film Dark Swarm.
Dark Swarm follows a group of people who've survived an attack on Earth by carnivorous alien creatures and who prepare to make one last stand against them.

Cerra is joined in the cast by popular genre actors Christopher Judge (Stargate SG-1) and Ed Wasser (Babylon 5). Tim Pyle (Decaying Orbit) has co-written and will direct. The Long Goodbye of 'Battlestar Galactica'
By Kate O'Hare, Zap2it
March 28, 2008
By now, it should all have been over for Sci Fi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" -- filming wrapped, cast and crew scattered, episodes working their way through the post-production process.
But thanks to a three-month shutdown for the Writers Guild of America strike, this week instead marks the beginning of filming for the final group of episodes in the fourth and last season of "Galactica."
"It's still the last season," star Katee Sackhoff says. "It's just taking a lot longer to shoot the dang thing than we thought it would."
On Friday, March 28, Sci Fi airs two half-hour specials to launch the first half of the 20-episode season, which starts airing April 4.

"They thought she was dead," Sackhoff says, "and now she's back, which in everyone's mind says 'Cylon.' If we look at past shows, how do they treat Cylons? They airlock them.
"So, that's where we come in, with Starbuck getting the rare, beautiful treatment of a Cylon. It's fantastic."
