A park bench interview with Torchwood star John Barrowman
NATASHA ELOI REPORTS

...As suave, dashing, enigmatic, charming and matinee handsome as he [John Barrowman] is on TV; he is even more so in person. Yeah, let's say it wasn't one of my most difficult interviews to do.
Now, I love both Doctor Who and Torchwood but I admitted to John that I prefer his portrayal of Captain Jack Harkness in Torchwood rather than Doctor Who. The character just seems to be more refined and developed. Mind you he's still as saucy and sexy as he is in Doctor Who but with a little extra confidence and punch in Torchwood.
Since SPACE won't be airing any of the first season of Torchwood or any of Doctor Who episodes, I naturally had to ask John to give a little background on the show - who the members of the agency are, their very 'interesting' interaction with one another and how he feels playing the role of Captain Jack Harkness. Jack is probably the first omnisexual male lead to ever be played on television.
**snippage**
Space is airing two back-to-back second season episodes of Torchwood, starting August 8 at 9 p.m. ET. It will be running regularly on Space at 10 p.m. ET on Fridays starting at August 15.

The stunt coordinator said you’re naturally good at the stunts and the props guy said you’re naturally good with the guns so… were you in fact a spy at one time?
JD: "I owe them so much money! [lots of laughter] Man! Uh, no, I’m like a jack of all trades but I’m not great at any one thing. I mean, at any thing, I’m just good at a lot of things. And because it’s a TV show and you have a true— I mean, Charlie Props is a MACGYVER, I mean that guy’s really MACGYVER. He’s unbelievable. So he’ll do it and I just have a particular ability to watch something done once and I’m able to repeat it [snaps] right away. Like lines, I never know my lines before I walk into a scene and I’ll have the script and I’ll rehearse with you and I’ll know that I sit a certain line and I kinda of move over here [gestures] on a certain line. And then I’ll memorize it physically from that and as soon as we shoot, fifteen minutes later, I’ll know three pages of dialog. I don’t know why but, then, I don’t know – we just shot – I don’t know one line now. It’s all gone. It’s like a toilet, it just flushes away."

Frostbite, Polar Bears and frozen equipment – just three of the challenges that faced director of photography Peter Woeste during the filming of Continuum!
A brief excerpt:
The gimbled ship set was the most ambitious that the Stargate team had ever put together, and they were rightly proud of their achievement. Once the initial scenes were filmed, the set was then frozen to simulate its icy resting place, which is when our heroes Cameron Mitchell, Daniel Jackson and Sam Carter enter the fray. Frostbite, Polar Bears and frozen equipment – just three of the challenges that faced director of photography Peter Woeste during the filming of Continuum!
A brief excerpt:
“The Arctic shoot wasn’t the only thing that it was a delight to be involved with,” he [Peter Woeste] says. “The film opens on the freighter, in 1939 in the mid-Atlantic. Even though we were shooting in Vancouver, it was difficult to find a period ship that we could shoot on, So we built all the interior of the ship on a stage. It would have been a normal set, but we decided that it was a ship on the ocean and ships tip back and forth. So we decided that we would tip this entire set – and it was huge, it was two or three stories built on the biggest stage that we have.”

Stargate Atlantis - GateWorld: Audio Interview - Brave New Woolsey
From GateWorld:
BRAVE NEW WOOLSEY
GateWorld Talks with Robert Picardo
The character who began as an in-your-face, pencil-pushing bureaucrat is now the newest commander of the Atlantis base. I.O.A. agent Richard Woolsey, once a thorn in the side of Stargate Command, is ready to take charge of the expedition -- and veteran actor Robert Picardo is more than ready to play the part.
In GateWorld's exclusive interview, Picardo talks about how he originally came to be cast as Mr. Woolsey five years ago, and how a seemingly flat antagonist became a recurring character. He also discusses Woolsey's need to reinvent himself now that he has taken command of the Atlantis expedition. Finally, the actor reflects on why he loves Stargate, comparing it to his years on Star Trek: Voyager.
GateWorld's interview with Robert Picardo runs approximately 30 minutes. Listen online at your leisure, download it to your MP3 player, or subscribe to the iTunes podcast! The full interview is also transcribed [at the link above].
A brief excerpt:
GW: It's one of the greatest stories in drama. The antagonist going protagonist. That journey to get there is one that is probably going to take most of the season.

RP: I agree with you. I mean, it's all about him discovering why he has this ambition and how he can rebuild himself brick by brick to succeed.
Whenever you play a character that's older than your target audience -- because I think science fiction tends to have a younger male audience -- they do hook into a character of any age who wants to reinvent himself. I think that's a feeling that you have in every phase of life. You know, graduating high school and going off to college and saying, "You know what? I don't want to be called Bobby anymore. I want to be Robert. Or Rob." Or I'm going to just change myself. Whatever I didn't like about the way I was interacting. I'm going to try to make, try to present myself as a new individual and see how I can grow into that image."
