Stargate Atlantis - Stargate Planet: Paul McGillion Interview

From Stargate Planet:

INTERVIEW WITH PAUL MCGILLION

The interview is currently ONLY available in German, however, an English translation is in the process:

GERMAN

Using the Google Translator, here's an English excerpt:

Paul McGillion was born in Scotland, but grew up in Canada. We know him as "Dr. Carson Beckett" for Atlantis and we are grateful that his agent has made this telephone interview available and that Paul McGillion, despite a tight time schedule, has taken the time to speak with us.

SP.de: Your role in the fifth seasons of Atlantis... The premiere is July 11 '08. In how many episodes are you and what can Beckett fans expect of their favorite Doctor?

PMG: First of all, beautiful greetings to the German fans. You are the best. Regarding Stargate Atlantis, I am scheduled for five episodes. Three of them I have already filmed. The first of these is called "The Seed" - Will Waring directed.

S-P.de: Do you like Will Waring as a director?

PMG: No. (then he laughs). Yes. Yes, of course. He makes his case well. He knows exactly how my role right across. As a result, I am working with Robert Picardo together - a pleasant cooperation. The second episode with "Beckett" is "Whispers", written by Joe Mallozzi and again leads Will Waring fantastic director. He is a great introduction and shows a lot of assets for my role. We sit in the impact on this planet. There are many Sheppard / Beckett scenes and this women's team is with us. A real horror series with a lot of fog. The third, which we have just twisted, "Outsiders". As Alan McCullough shows much sensitivity for my role. There are many interactions between McKay and Beckett. A kidnapping, a moral dilemma… more but I would not be betrayed.

Thomas Jane: Tentacles & terror in The Mist

Thomas Jane’s career has taken in the likes of Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher and The Punisher, and he has also appeared in non-genre movies such as Stander and The Sweetest Thing. He talks to David Grove about his new film, an adaptation of the Stephen King story The Mist.

Are you a big genre fan?

TJ: "Yes, I love horror and science fiction. I actually did my own comic book called Bad Planet, which I created with Steve Niles. It was about an alien organism that attacks Earth. It was an idea I came up with when I was recovering from an accident a couple of years ago and I started having these hallucinations about aliens. The comic was well received and I’m actually trying to develop some movie projects with my partners. I want to do more comics in the future because that’s something I love doing very much.

As for acting, I’ve been in movies like The Punisher and Dreamcatcher and I think I bring a lot of enthusiasm and energy to genre projects because I’m such a big fan."

Stargate SG-1 - "Space Race" - Actor as Tech Con Security Guard

From the Brooks Van Norman web site:

Becoming Half Alien on Stargate SG-1

Being part of a sci-fi TV series was fun - even it was only as half human, grunt security guard. Having spent many years in Vancouver, I know how important the film and TV business is.

Spending some time on set was something that I wanted to do for a while so that I could learn more about production, camera work and editing.

As it turned out, I learned a lot about patience and not much about production. However, it was still a very fun experience to be on a few show and I did learn a few things about camera work.

Stargate SG-1’s production involves a ton of post-production editing for special effects and sound that you don’t see on set.

This particular episode that I was on filmed in Vancouver during the early spring. The show aired months later as Episode 8 in Season 7.

If you’re interested in the full screenplay of this particular episode, you can download it from MGM’s site here.

I was scheduled to be on set for the whole day… and I mean the WHOLE DAY.

My call time was 5:10 am. This means that I had to be ready for make up about 30 minutes later. I had my own trailer room to get changed in and store my belongings.

Robert Picardo and Joseph Mallozzi on season five of Stargate Atlantis

Posted Jul 3rd 2008 11:01AM by Richard Keller

Rachel Luttrell as Teyla Emmagan and Robert Picardo as Richard Woolsey

After a fairly brief hiatus (only 4 months) Stargate Atlantis returns to the SciFi channel with all new episodes starting on July 11th. Now entering its fifth season, the show is reaching a turning point thanks to a number of off-season cast changes. First and foremost in is the replacement of Amanda Tapping's Colonel Samantha Carter as administrator of Atlantis with Robert Picardo's Richard Woolsey. This is one year after Tapping replaced Tori Higginson on the show. It's an interesting turn of events since Woolsey has not been the most popular of characters in the entire Stargate franchise. And, as the character has never been a people person, there is bound to be some conflict between members of the Atlantis team and himself.

In order to hash this all out, Picardo and Atlantis executive producer Joseph Mallozzi got together with the press to answer some questions about Woolsey and Atlantis, the shows 100th episode, and how Picardo looks in a jumpsuit.

**snippage**

On the passing of Don S. Davis: "Don had a bigger heart and was even nicer than the role he played on SG-1", said Mallozzi. When he came to Stargate during season four, Davis warmly welcomed Joe to the set. Mallozzi added that he is proud to call Davis a true friend. and he will be missed by fans and anyone who worked with him.

Finally...

How Picardo looks in the command uniform: Picardo said wearing the command uniform is a bit of a change for a character who has worn a business suit for the last 30 years. Saying that, he looks okay in the uniform. "It's good to have a trim butt in science fiction."
