Finding her calling early, Regina's Elyse Levesque takes on the universe — Stargate Universe
By Nick Miliokas
January 8, 2010
REGINA — Let’s be honest. Most people are fortunate to find their calling, period. To find it at all is a wonderful thing. To find it before you are a teenager is a blessing. “And that’s exactly how I feel,” Elyse Levesque says with a magazine-cover smile. “I feel blessed.”
The future cast member of the science-fiction television series Stargate Universe found her calling when she was 11 years old, and while she probably could not articulate it at the time, she understood, inherently, that her destiny was to stand in front of the cameras, making truth out of lies, bringing incredible stories to life as an actress. “It was almost as though I had no choice,” she says. “It was not a conscious decision. It happened because it was meant to happen. I really and truly believe that...”
The Stargate Universe experience has been “trial by fire,” as she puts it, and while Levesque is still a rookie in many respects, she is encouraged by evidence that her comfort zone is expanding. “It’s getting larger, for sure. It’s certainly larger than it was at this time last year,” she says. “This television series is the most significant thing I have ever been part of, one of the first big steps for me.”

Our complete midseason preview of 31 hot sci-fi/fantasy shows
By Kathie Huddleston
ON 01/08/10
If you don't live in one of the warm states (and are there any warm states left?), it's too blasted cold to do much of anything outside. Luckily, it's time for midseason TV, which can run anywhere from January to April and keep us warm and toasty through the nasty months. New shows are airing, old shows are returning, shows that have no reason to are airing on Sunday, Battlestar's back with a movie, and Fringe is airing on Monday, just once, to annoy NBC as it goes up against Heroes.
Don't have time to watch the 31 new/returning/movie/etc. shows coming up? Are you saying you actually have a life? Well, then warm up the DVRs, TV fans. Here's the midseason line-up of sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal and spy shows.
... Sanctuary (Syfy), season two resumes on Friday, Jan. 8, at 10 p.m.
Even though there are only three original episodes left in the season, take heart. Syfy has already renewed Sanctuary for a third season. In the two-hour finale, "Kali, Parts 1 & 2," a global threat will surface that will affect the abnormals of the world. The team head to India to stop the threat and find themselves facing the Cult of Kali. Also, rumor has it Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne) will do an amazing Bollywood dance number. Now that's something we can't wait to see.
... Stargate Universe (Syfy), season one resumes on Friday, April 2, at 9 p.m.
The good news is that Syfy has already renewed the freshman series for a second season. We were left with Col. Young (Justin Louis) stranding Dr. Rush on a deserted planet (well, one with a crashed spaceship). When we return we'll have to see how Rush (Robert Carlyle) manages to get back on the Destiny, and what that scene between him and Young is going to look like when they're first standing in the same room. It should be fun. The other good news, we have 10 episodes left, and producers are promising more action in the second half of the season...

When "Sanctuary" returns for its third season in the fall, fans will be treated to 20 episodes--six more than in each of the first two seasons.
She and co-producers Damian Kindler and Martin Wood--the "brain trust," as she said--now have to secure funding for the season because, just as in the past, the production does not have the backing of a studio. Tapping said not being tied to a studio has advantages and disadvantages, but "we're still struggling with that..."
... @amandatapping was happy to spend extra time answering fan questions I collected from Twitter followers. Keep reading for those. Check back early next week to read what Tapping and co-star Robin Dunne have to say about the S2 finale coming Jan. 15.

"It's a huge coup," Tapping told me Monday over the phone from Vancouver. "It's daunting, but I think we're ready for it. I'm glad the first two seasons were 13. It really gave us an opportunity to find our feet and get into our groove with it on so many different levels. So 20, we're ready for it."

I'd love to. I'd love to try to get Carol on too. So yeah, the door's always open.
