Philip Glenister: On the Hunt for Demons
Playing Rupert Galvin, an American vampire smiter, on ITV's new series Demons is a complete change of pace for Philip Glenister, who took the role after playing Gene Hunt on Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes for three years. Despite turning down the opportunity to reprise the role of Hunt for the American version of the show, he's still found himself portraying a transatlantic character. He spoke to Total Sci-Fi about his new role…
A brief excerpt:
Do you think that Demons is suitable for the Scooby Doo audience?

Do you think that Demons is suitable for the Scooby Doo audience?
We are making a family supernatural thriller and it is dark in places but there is also humour. Kids love to be scared but at the same they want to have some fun.
My daughters are six and three and they are obsessed with Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures. They love being scared – when they know it is comic book scary. I’ll never forget watching Doctor Who with my friend Paul when I was a lad. We’d half hide behind the door when the Daleks were on.
There used to be a series on Saturday nights years ago on ITV called Thriller. It was all different stories. They released them on DVD recently and I had to get it. I remember the music used to really freak me out. There were these great stories and there was one that I remember where this guy gets locked in this house in this chamber and he is left there to die. It’s a bit like being buried alive. I remember being completely freaked out by this story.

Supernatural
9 pm/ET CW
Magic is murder. At least it is for three old-school magicians (Barry Bostwick, John Rubenstein, Richard Libertini) living in a small town — bitter that they have been replaced by flashier, younger illusionists. But one of them attempts a comeback by making an unwise deal with the devil to acquire real magical powers, but he discovers there's a high price to pay for it. — Rhoda Charles
... Bones
8 pm/ET Fox
Hardcore Boneheads probably believe this is the Greatest Show on Earth already, but it gets a chance to prove it on its new night when Brennan and Booth go undercover as a circus act to investigate the deaths of performing twins. While it's tempting to say they'll be working without a net, they're actually a knife-throwing duo called Buck and Wanda Moosejaw (wait till you see their RV!), and the list of suspects includes the traveling company's ringmaster (Andy Richter). — Joe Friedrich

Gamble: It's not actually so easy to get the better of an angel like Castiel. Run-of-the-mill demons end up dead or freaked out like the burnt-eyed chick in the diner in "Lazarus Rising." They're outmatched — and, of course, they have no experience fighting angels, because angels have been AWOL for a couple thousand years. But Alastair is exceptionally old and powerful, so he knows a trick or two. Alastair is working with Lilith. Though, for the record, I don't think he cares much about the apocalypse. He'd rather be back in Hell, sticking bamboo shoots under fingernails. He's not a politician. He's a torture artist, and he'd just as soon stick with what he loves. He's only topside because duty calls.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
As you have all pretty much guessed, the thing I was waiting (forever) to tell everyone broke last week. So, here it is:
HOLLYWOOD REPORTER - DAVID BLUE
I'm VERY excited to begin shooting in a few weeks. I think this show has the potential to be amazing. Everyone involved in it has such wonderful ideas and I can't wait to be a part of bringing them to fruition. For those of you who think I'm playing Cliff on the show, or even Logan for that matter, I'm not. Different show, different role, thank you. But the role is a blast and the people are amazing. I can't wait to give you updates from the set here-and-there as schedule permits. (And I'd hope that this doesn't mean the end of Cliff as well... but that's never really been up to me, has it?)
... In case you didn't know this about me, I'm a ginormous geek and have watched ST:TNG from beginning to end (and DS9 and Voyager for that matter), everything Star Wars I can get my hands on, comic books, movies, tv shows, SG1 and Atlantis and much more. Being a part of this show will be an astounding geek-fantasy, and the cast (while not yet complete) is shaping up to be more than just icing on the cake... it's another whole cake!
I'm looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the show when it airs, but in the meantime I wish you all the best and remember to keep an open mind. Remember: "The things people call impossible are simply the things they haven't seen yet."
Much love,
David
