VIEWERS SEEK 'SANCTUARY' ON SCI FI

Published: October 6, 2008

#1 Program Among Adults 25-54

2.7 Million Tune In For Series Premiere

New York, NY – October 6, 2008 –SCI FI's groundbreaking new original series Sanctuary, which premiered on Friday, October 3 (9-11 pm), was the #1 primetime cable entertainment program among Adults 25-54 and the #4 among Adults 18-49. Sanctuary delivered more than 2.7 million total viewers (P2+), 1.08 million Adults 18-49, and 1.4 million Adults 25-54. With its 2.2 HH rating, Sanctuary is the highest rated original series premiere since Eureka made Channel history in July 2006.

Sanctuary helped to make SCI FI the #1 cable network airing entertainment programming in 8-11 pm primetime with Adults 25-54, and among adults 18-49 the Channel was ranked #2.

SCIFI.com also had record highs. Since measurement began in 2006, Sanctuary is the best performance online for any SCI FI series debut in all key metrics. Sanctuary's web performance boosted SCIFI.com to 1.2 million page views, 208,000 uniques, and 287,000 video streams on Friday, October 3, 2008.

Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), a brilliant scientist who holds the secrets of a clandestine population — a group of strange and sometimes terrifying beings that hide among humans. Along with her new recruit, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), her quirky tech wiz Henry (Ryan Robbins) and her fearless daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup), Magnus seeks to protect this threatened phenomena as well as unlock the mysteries behind their existence. The series also stars Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt.

Created by Damian Kindler (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis), Sanctuary is produced in association with SCI FI Channel and is distributed by Tricon Films and Television. The show is executive produced by Damian Kindler, Sam Egan, Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood, Keith Beedie, and N. John Smith.

SCI FI Channel is a television network where "what if" is what's on. SCI FI fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.scifi.com) and magazine. Launched in 1992, and currently in 93 million homes, SCI FI Channel is a network of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies.

INTERVIEWS

Jason O'Mara and company travel back in time—or do they?—to import (and remake) the British hit Life on Mars

By Mike Szymanski

Detective Sam Tyler wakes up in 1973 after suffering a car accident. He's not sure how he got there, or why he is there, but he knows that he can fight crime and solve mysteries with the knowledge he carries over from the 21st century.

Life on Mars originated in the United Kingdom, but the American version is updated and set in New York. Tyler is played by Jason O'Mara (Resident Evil: Extinction), and his Manhattan counterpart is played by Michael Imperioli, with Harvey Keitel also in the cast.

O'Mara, Imperioli and executive producers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec gave interviews at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the same time that they were working on the pilot episode of the show, which airs this fall on ABC-TV.

A brief excerpt:

Do the same characters exist from the original pilot?

O'Mara: I'm the only survivor from the original pilot. Call it Irish luck. But I think a lot of fans of the British show will be happy to see that Ray and Chris are in the script. They're back. I think we wanted Phyllis in the pilot, but there may not be time for Phyllis.

Appelbaum: She'll show up eventually.
Nemec: Annie is certainly in the pilot, and Maya's in the pilot as well. Our goal really was to the BBC series. They did a phenomenal job making that show, and we're very excited to just really be of the spirit of that show into New York in 1973.

Today's News: Our Take

VIDEO: Amanda Tapping's New Adventure on Sanctuary

You adored her as Col. Sam Carter for 13 years on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, but now Amanda Tapping is launching herself into a new show called Sanctuary (Fridays, 9/8c on Sci Fi). The intriguing show features Amanda as the enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus who recruits the young and handsome Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne) to work with her in her home – which she calls a "Sanctuary for All." She houses and treats all forms of "abnormals" who most people would deem as monsters that should be destroyed. Erin Fox sat down with the First Lady of sci fi to discuss Magnus' background and the challenges of shooting a show almost solely against green screens.

Heroes - AlloCiné: Masi Oka Interview

At the French website, AlloCiné, there is a very brief interview with Heroes' Masi Oka:

Masi Oka: Season 3 of "Heroes" ...

Using the google translator, a brief excerpt:

While season 3 of "Heroes" has just begun in the United States, Masi Oka gave AlloCiné Series everything that makes a hero Hiro! Yatta !

AlloCiné Series: The 3rd chapter of "Heroes" is "Villains". Should we expect the arrival of new Sylar?
Masi Oka : We wanted to talk about this duality that exists in every human being, that fact that we all can become either a hero or a monster. It is up to us to choose our destiny. This is the choice we are talking about in the 3rd season. Of course, new characters will make their appearance. And they will be bad, very bad ...

Untranslated:
