Stargate SG1 - Claudia Black/Michael Shanks - Audio Dramas: Shell Game

From James Swallow's (audio drama author) blog update for April 3, 2008:

http://jmswallow.livejournal.com/56396.html

(Please follow the link for the complete blog update.)

I'm pleased to be able to post this new piece of cover art today, freshly approved by MGM. A big round of applause for our designer and art hero Alex Mallinson...

Stargate SG-1 Shell Game is currently planned for a June release, and as the cover states, it stars Claudia Black as Vala Mal Doran, supported by Michael Shanks as Doctor Daniel Jackson. Shell Game is set in season ten of SG-1; the plot involves Vala's past coming back to bite her in the ass, when a crime she once committed is revealed to have a very serious consequence...

Stargate SG-1 - GateWorld: Myth Maker: Robert C. Cooper Interview

From GateWorld:

(Please follow the link for the complete GateWorld interview.)

MYTH MAKER

GateWorld talks with Robert C. Cooper

Robert C. Cooper has worn many different hats for the Stargate franchise, from story editor and writer to executive producer and director. His influence has culminated in the Ori story arc, which he played a major role in creating. The Ori spanned the final two years of Stargate SG-1 and the new DVD movie, Stargate: The Ark of Truth -- which Cooper also wrote and directed.

The Ark of Truth left us with a number of questions about the mythology, from the Ancients and the Ori to the final fates of some of our favorite characters. In this extensive, two-part interview, Cooper goes more in-depth than ever before on the Ori storyline and The Ark of Truth.

In Part 1 he answers questions about the concept of the Ori and what he found most interesting about them, Adria and her relationship with Vala, and the challenge of keeping the series accessible to a broad audience. He also reveals what Season Eleven would have looked like, had SG-1 not been canceled when it was.

Don't miss Part 2 later this week!

'Battlestar Galactica's' fourth season, the strike, and directing in space: The scoop from Ron Moore

Below is the edited text of my mid-March conversation with “Battlestar Galactica” executive producer Ronald D. Moore. In a day or so, I’ll post a review/feature on Season 4, which begins 9 p.m. Friday on Sci Fi. But I thought I’d post the text of this interview first.

By the way, I posted a few highlights from this interview here two weeks ago; that post includes Moore's thought on the new "Star Trek" film, the set of which he visited recently.

http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/03/battlestar-gala.html

There are five sections:

* 1. Moore discussing his first-ever stint in the director’s chair
* 2. Moore discussing the 100-day WGA strike
* 3. Non-spoilery “Battlestar” info
* 4. Somewhat spoilery “Battlestar” info that you can probably safely read after you’ve seen Episode 1 of Season 4 (you can read it before that if you’re OK with discussion of some general story themes that coming up. This section doesn't reveal many plot points.)
* 5. The final bit is pretty spoilery material

You will get warnings before any spoilers appear. If you want to be spoiler-free for Season 4, you can safely read the first three sections of this interview. And then you can go look at the Season 4 cast photos.

http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/02/battlestar-ga-1.html

Then you can watch this funny eight-minute video, which efficiently recaps the first three seasons of "Battlestar." There's also a long conference-call interview with Katee Sackhoff, who plays Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, here.

If you like spoilers, there are some near the end of this interview, and more tidbits, hints and so forth here.

Freeclyde Music presents the original soundtrack for the made-for-dvd release of STARGATE: THE ARK OF TRUTH Starring Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge and Claudia Black, with original music by Joel Goldsmith.

In THE ARK OF TRUTH, SG-1 searches for an ancient weapon which could help them defeat the Ori, and discover it may be in the Ori's own home galaxy. The International Oversight committee has their own plans and SG-1 finds themselves in a distant galaxy fighting two powerful enemies.

Recorded live with the Seattle Northwest Sinfonia, this CD underscores the conclusion of SG-1's struggle with the Ori, as well as its ongoing battle with the Replicators. Fuzzy on frakkin' 'BSG' storylines? So is the cast

Updated Wed. Apr. 2 2008 2:19 PM ET

The Canadian Press

TORONTO -- The title of the video clip on the "Battlestar Galactica" website says it all: "What the frak is going on?"

**snippage**

As the dark, critically acclaimed show heads into its fourth and final season this Friday on Space in Canada and SciFi Channel in the U.S., Vancouver-raised actress Grace Park, who plays comely pilot Sharon Valereii (a.k.a. Boomer and Athena), even has trouble recalling everything that's happened on the series so far.

"Where did we end off with those two? Hmm, um, well," Park said during a recent interview, her voice trailing off as she tried to remember the subplot involving her character's baby.

Collecting her thoughts, the five-foot-nine former model adored by many a sci-fi geek quickly rhymed off most of the storyline before losing her train of thought again.

"I forget what else happens," she said with a laugh. "So much happens on this show, damn it!"

**snippage**

As we head into the last 20 episodes that make up Season 4, one humanoid cylon remains a secret, but Park isn't revealing his or her identity.

"We still have nine more episodes to (shoot) so I really don't know how it's going to end," Park said with a laugh.

"And I really don't know the final fifth cylon so don't ask me! I'll just make it up!"

**snippage**

So just how do actors in the large ensemble cast - which also includes the venerable Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff - follow the labyrinthine story when they're not in every scene? Do they read the script in its entirety?

Not necessarily, said Park.

"Some people, they don't necessarily know what's going on ... we always love to tease each other. It's like, `You do know there's like a full story going on, right? Like, you have read the episode that you're not in, right?' ... it is so intricate so if you just read your bits you are not going to know the full story and then you can't really milk the storyline."

Stargate: Ark of Truth: Spencer Maybee Interview

From The SciFi World:

http://www.thescifiworld.net/interviews/spencer_maybee_01.htm

(Please follow the link for the complete text interview. Spencer portrayed Captain Binder in AoT - the SF team leader aboard the Odyssey.)

Interview with Spencer Maybee

Date of publishing: 1st April 2008

A leading man with unusual depth, sensitivity, comic timing, and vast reservoirs of explosive volatility, Spencer thrills at playing characters with complexity. Catalyzing sincerity, subtlety, darkness, and humour, Spencer brings a palpable sense of humanity to every role he plays. Born and raised in Toronto, Spencer did some time on the stage, but it was his other love -- for writing -- that sent him to UVic, where he studied poetry, nonfiction, journalism, and screenwriting. After university, Spencer hit the stage again in the Winnipeg Fringe, but soon learned to love the lens. He did an acting residency at the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, Maine, launching his on-camera career soon after with a role as a crystal meth cook in an MOW with Diane Keaton.

Spencer took two years off acting to focus on writing and filmmaking, returning to the screen in a supporting lead role on House Party, a pilot for the Comedy Network. He followed that up with a guest star role on Flash Gordon and supporting leads on Stargate: The Ark of Truth, and the MOWs Smokejumpers and Ice Blues, the latest Don Strachey murder mystery. Currently based out of Vancouver, BC, Spencer studies at the Lyric. Spencer will be in the next X-Files sequel movie.

A brief excerpt:

Gilles Nuytens: What is your best memory from your days on "Stargate: The Ark Of Truth"?

Spencer Maybee: "Definitely working with Rob and playing with the guns. Hanging out with Amanda Tapping was also really cool. She can be a real goof between takes. I really had no idea."
