'The Thing From Another World,' stars Margaret Sheridan, Kenneth Tobey, Robert Cornthwaite, Douglas Spencer, James R. Young, Dewey Martin (Squee!), Robert Nichols, William Self, Eduard Franz, Sally Creighton and James Arness as ...The Thing (yikes!).
This 1951 film was my introduction to science fiction. It was based on the John W. Campbell Jr. short story, 'Who Goes There?' This movie was re-made in 1982 at 'The Thing,' starring Kurt Russell. (I prefer the original version, as much as I love Kurt Russell.) According to IMDB, it looks like Universal is working on another version for 2010.
This is definitely a snack movie, so get your popcorn and a coca-cola (or whatever) and please enjoy. This flick has everything ... humor, danger, romance, witty dialogue, and ... Dewey Martin!

We have the new trailer, titled "Philosophical," for SCI FI Channel's upcoming Stargate Universe, only on SCI FI Wire. It debuted tonight during the airing of Stargate Continuum.
Stargate Universe is a spinoff of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and follows the adventures of explorers who start off on a reconnaissance mission to the Destiny, a ship built by the Ancients, only to wind up on a never-ending mission when the crew learns the ship can't return to Earth.
It debuts later this year on SCI FI.

April 2, 2009: Waiting for the Other Vengeful Shoe to Drop, Peter DeLuise Wants to Hear From You
... Today, we screened Ivon Bartok’s directorial debut. The first batch of kino scenes were a lot fun, featuring Eli and Chloe, Spencer and Brody, Scott, Young, and a peeved James (played by the lovely Julia Anderson. What a sweetheart!).
As for the actual episodes: Ernest Dickerson continues to do a bang-up job directing Earth, Peter DeLuise is in the editing room working on Fire, and Andy Mikita is putting the finishing touches on Air I, II, and III, promising us a cut by late tomorrow.
Oh, speaking of Peter DeLuise - if you have questions for the walking Stargate omnipedia, start posting. He’s agreed to come by and do a Q&A. Once he’s completed his director’s cut of course.

Scott Bakula—who played the time-jumping Sam Beckett for five seasons on TV's Quantum Leap, from '89-'93—talked exclusively with SCI FI Wire about the show's 20th anniversary celebration last weekend in North Hollywood, Calif., and whether a movie will ever come together. The former Enterprise captain also dished on Star Trek and his guest role on NBC's Chuck.
Bakula shared the stage at the "Leap Back" convention with series creator Don Bellisario, and after 20 years, fans are still as passionate as ever about the beloved sci-fi series.
One woman was so overcome about speaking to the star of the show that she was unable to ask her question. When Bakula walked out into the audience to hug her, she told him that she knew his character's social security number by heart and immediately rattled it off.
We spoke exclusively with Bakula in a telephone interview on Thursday. Following is an edited version of our conversation.

What do you think it was about the show that made it so popular?
Bakula: Well, I think Sam represented everyman, and there was a naivete about him. The very simple nature of the show being about someone literally walking in someone else's shoes and seeing the world through their eyes. We're so involved in our own lives, but when you think about being that woman over there, pushing that stroller with the two little babies, and what is her life like. And all of a sudden we're in her life. We knew what was going on. ... The nature of his character was, because of his big-hearted kindness and his willingness to be involved in other people's lives, ... humanity is always looking to help each other and look out. Sometimes it takes big tragedies. Look what the people in New Orleans did or the people in New York did. Or the people on the plane that went down in the Hudson. Look how they handled it. They reached out and helped each other. This was just one man in a TV show. It was very simple and kind of magical.
