Tapping Leaves, Shanks Visits

In the new issue, Amanda Tapping goes on the record to explain her decision to leave Stargate: Atlantis, having been part of the Stargate franchise for over a decade. Plus, news that Michael Shanks will make his second Stargate: Atlantis appearance as Dr. Daniel Jackson in season five’s two-parter – you just can’t keep a good archaeologist down, it seems!

FEATURES

The Good Sheppard

As Team Atlantis prepare to spend a fifth year in the Pegasus Galaxy, Joe Flanigan gives us his thoughts on season four, John Sheppard’s unexplored past, and some of the stranger elements that come with being on a long-running science fiction TV show: “You find yourself having the most absurd conversations in the world! ‘Aren’t the monster’s teeth meant to be over here?’ ‘Can we put a little more blood on the space-bug?’ I’ve caught myself sounding like Ed Wood, but that’s what’s funny about it too…”

Setting the Scene

Join The Official Stargate SG1/Atlantis Magazine as we take a whirlwind tour of season four’s stunning sets and talk shop, eat an extremely large cake and get comfy with the cast and crew of Stargate: Atlantis. Also in the new issue, props maestro Kenny Gibbs tells us about his action-packed job and reveals his favorite Stargate: Atlantis weapons, and the man behind the show’s excellent visual effects, Mark Savela, gives us the lowdown on season four’s breathtaking battles and stunning spacewalks.

Sympathy for the Devil

Actor Chris Heyerdahl kicked off season one of Stargate: Atlantis as the benevolent Athosian Halling, but later shifted gears by transforming into the conniving and deadly Wraith known as Todd. In the latest issue of The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Magazine, the Vancouver native talks walking the walk, mind-boggling make-up, and the benefits of being a Wraith: “There’s a certain drive, a feeling of pride and purpose with the Wraith, which lends itself to how they move, and how they speak and engage with their own kind and quarry.”
