Behind the Scenes: Inquisition
October 27, 2008 (Episodes)
When it came to deciding on the look of Stargate Atlantis’ latest episode, production designer James Robbins turned to a surprising source…
A brief excerpt:
For designer James Robbins, ‘Inquisition’ gave him a chance to slow down a little – something that happened rarely during the production of the show’s biggest season to date.
“It was actually fairly nice to have an episode that was pretty light for me at that time,” he laughs. “’Outsiders’ was pretty massive, I was already working on ‘Brain Storm’, and we had a pretty good build to do on ‘The Prodigal’, so all in all it was a welcome break!”
Whereas most of the season’s episodes had entailed a lot of design and building work for Robbins’ team, ‘Inquisition’ was very different. “I had three requirements for that episode, so that was a fairly straight forward and easy one for me,” he explains. “We needed a cell or a room for our heroes to be brought to where they were gassed. That was basically a slight change out in one of the existing rooms in the village, because we needed a very medieval look. Then we needed another jail cell and also a room for the actual inquisition itself to take place. They would have a more ‘up’ look than the first cell they went into, the idea being that they’ve now been transferred to a different planet where the inquisition takes place...”
