South Coast Repertory's new production of The Heiress, the psychological drama of love, innocence and betrayal by Ruth Goetz and Augustus Goetz, inspired by Henry James' novel "Washington Square," begins Oct. 17.

Kirsten Potter
, a veteran of Milwaukee Rep and West Coast productions, plays the steely title character, Catherine Sloper.

Performances continue to Nov. 16 on the Segerstrom Stage in Costa Mesa, CA. Directed by SCR artistic director Martin Benson, The Heiress opens Oct. 24.
"Set in 1850s New York, a widower and his daughter go about their lives, each craving love but powerless to express their needs," according to SCR. "Into their home comes a suitor of great charm who awakens the daughter's spirit and brightens her world — and may or may not be a fortune hunter."

Tony Amendola plays Catherine's father, Dr. Sloper. Amendola, who has appeared at many leading theatres throughout the country, was a resident actor, director and associate artist at Berkeley Repertory Theatre from 1980-1990.
