What really happened to Sanctuary's Ashley
By Kathie Huddleston
3:26 PM ON 10/30/09
Syfy's Sanctuary did it: Last Friday's episode killed off Ashley (Emilie Ullerup).
Or did it? "Nobody dies in sci-fi," creator Damian Kindler said with a laugh. "No body. Habeas corpus."
In last week's ep, "Eulogy," Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and Will (Robin Dunne) failed to find Ashley's body after she apparently gave her life to avoid killing her mom, and everyone accepted that Ashley had truly gone to that big abnormal zoo in the sky.
But why kill her off? Did Ullerup want more money? Have another job waiting in the wings? Were there personality conflicts behind the scenes? Maybe she wanted to go off to college or work for Obama?...

If you're on a runaway spaceship with dwindling supplies, a frozen planet may sound like an oasis in the desert. But since this is Stargate Universe, you can go ahead and presume there's something wrong with said planet. (Maybe the water smells funny?) While two crewmen trek across a cold new world in search of drinkable samples, Johansen (Alaina Huffman) tries to catch an intruder on board the ship. — Michael Chant

Exclusive Interview! Diving Deeper into Stargate Universe with Producer John G. Lenic!
By Kevin Coll • October 29, 2009
So today was a particularly interesting day as I got to chat with one of the producers of SGU and longtime member of the Stargate production team John G. Lenic. He joined the team in 1996 as a production assistant and has remained with all incarnations of the franchise from SG-1, Atlantis and now SGU. He currently serves as a producer of the new series.
JG and I got to really hash out some of the most talked about issues revolving around SGU and address perhaps some of the most pressing questions surrounding the show as it enters its 5th week on the Syfy Network maybe even unlocking some of those questions you have been itching for even getting some insight into possibly explorations for Season 2 of the series.
Now I want to tell you there is no major spoilers in this interview there may be some light allusions of things to come but nothing that reveals anything special in the show’s future. We do not believe in spoilers and want to be just as surprised as you the readers for the coming episodes of the show...

Stargate Universe - - GateWorld: James Bamford Audio Interview
At GateWorld:
RISKY BUSINESS
GateWorld Talks with James Bamford
After years of working with the team at Stargate to bring you interviews and exclusive features, you eventually make a few friends. Undoubtedly one of the closer relationships we have built is with SG-1 fight coordinator and SGA / SGU stunt coordinator James "BAMBAM" Bamford.
Despite contributing to the site through the "Ask BAMBAM" forum thread and his blog, we have never taken the time to do a sit-down interview with the man. Why? His work on Stargate is extremely visual and we've been planning on shooting a video documentary of his work for years.
So until that time comes -- and it will -- we bring you this piece!
In this exclusive we learn of BAMBAM's initial years in acting and stunts, the character and mindset of a performer and preparing various SGU cast members for their intense roles, among many other topics. We talk about a stunt man's immense pride in his work, and the life and death events involved with the job.
This interview runs over 54 minutes and is available in audio. It's also transcribed {at the link above]!

Stargate Universe/Sanctuary- SciFi Wire: Syfy has an historic October
At SciFi Wire:
(Please follow the link for the complete article.)
Syfy has an historic October because of...well, you
Syfy said it's going to have a record-setting October based on the fact that you or someone you know is apparently watching just about every show they've been airing recently. We've included the entire press release below because they sent out so many highlights, but two key factors were the strong debut for Stargate Universe and the return of Sanctuary.
New York, NY - October 27, 2009 - Extending its summer ratings surge into fall, Syfy smashed yet another viewership record with its most watched October prime in history among total viewers (1,452,000), Adults 18-34 (308,000), Adults 18-49 (733,000), Adults 25-54 (797,000), Women 18-34 (141,000), Women 18-49 (356,000) and Women 25-54 (378,000).
Syfy jumped to #3 in A25-54 and #4 among A18-49 versus all basic cable entertainment networks - its second best monthly ranking ever in these demos behind December 2002 when Steven Spielberg's record-setting Taken premiered.
The record October performance was fueled by strong ratings from Stargate Universe and Sanctuary -- which both premiered this month -- Ghost Hunters and Destination Truth, the two highest-rated paranormal investigative series on television, along with the annual 31 Days of Halloween spook-a-thon.
Syfy also reported that in the Third Quarter, $75K+ A18-49 delivery increased by +21% vs. 3Q '08.
October Syfy Ratings Highlights (includes full viewing data)
... ♦ The first season of Stargate Universe is averaging a 2.1 HH rating, 2.85 million total viewers, 1.5 million A18-49, and 1.7 million A25-54. Compared to the last season of Stargate Atlantis, SGU is up +59% in A18-34, +41% in A18-49, +33% in A25-54 and +36% in total viewers.
... ♦ The second season premiere of Sanctuary delivered a 1.8 HH rating, 2.4 million total viewers, 493,000 A18-34, 1.25 million A18-49 and 1.5 million A25-54. This marks a series high performance in A18-34...

FEATURES
The Universe Interview – David Blue
Securing a regular role in Stargate Universe, actor David Blue found himself on a journey that took him far from his usual televisual stomping grounds. In the latest issue of Stargate Magazine, Blue gives us the lowdown on the Universe experience and discusses what makes his character Eli Wallace tick: “Eli knows he’s smart. He’s not a genius in that he was born an Einstein, but he can figure things out and see patterns in things. One of the reasons I think he has a good sense of humor is that he can see patterns in the world and find the humor in certain things. That’s who Eli is, and because he applied his intelligence to random things, he never truly found his way.”
The SG-1 Interview – Cliff Simon
From his first appearance, it was obvious that Ba’al was the villain of SG-1’s nightmares – and it’s no surprise that he’s just been voted the Stargate franchise’s best ever bad guy! Cunning, manipulative, and dangerous, he tormented our heroes to the last. The man behind the evil grin, Cliff Simon, recalls his reign of intergalactic villainy in the latest issue: “I loved it – the minute I put on the beautiful costumes that they made for me, Ba’al’s boots and all that kind of stuff, I just fell into the character – he really became a part of me. I think it was perfect – everything about it was just right. I could have carried on playing that character for another 10 years!”
Know your enemy: Villains of Stargate
There have been a variety of threatening groups hoping to wipe out the men and women of Stargate Command and Atlantis, or failing that, to take over their planet/galaxy/place of work. Marking a special Villains issue of Stargate Magazine, we present a guide to the best (and worst) Stargate villains. Plus, we take an inside glimpse of the workings of evil organization the N.I.D., complete with bonus notes from Richard Woolsey and General O’Neill...

Sanctuary - SciFi Wire: Was Sanctuary's Ashley killed off? Should she be?
At SciFi Wire:
(Please follow the link for the complete article.)
Was Sanctuary's Ashley killed off? Should she be?
Is Sanctuary's Ashley dead? After being transformed into Super Abnormal Ashley (Emilie Ullerup) by that nasty Cabal and leading an attack, she vanished in a fiery blaze on Syfy's supernatural series last Friday, rather than kill her own mum, Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping).
While it's not much of a surprise that Ashley couldn't kill Magnus (which would have led to an abrupt end of the series, what with Magnus being the main character and all), whether Ashley will live or die isn't as easy to conclude.
After all, they just added another hip, hot girl character named Kate Freelander, played by Agam Darshi. Could she be Ashley's replacement? And, of course, the death of Ashley means kick-ass blonde Ullerup would be leaving the series...
So thumbs up or thumbs down? Should she live or die? What do you think?

Stargate Atlantis - GateWorld: Joe Flanigan Audio Interview

WHERE WE LEFT OFF
GateWorld Talks with Joe Flanigan
Conventions are hectic events for everyone, but for celebrities it can be madness! GateWorld fell prey to actor Joe Flanigan's busy schedule at Creation Vancouver 2009 when we were forced to cut our last interview short. So we were delighted to be able to polish off our discussion in this second segment, recorded at Creation Chicago 2009.
If you haven't read the previous interview, we suggest you do so first!
In this segment, Joe discusses the reduction in DVD sales, waiting to hear word from MGM and Bridge about an Atlantis movie go-ahead, and getting a chance to build some memories with his three young boys. He also discusses a new project he and a writing partner are undertaking!
This interview runs 12 minutes and is available in audio. It's also transcribed [at the link above]!

New Installment of Fan Franchise Favorite Scores Impressive Ratings in U.S., UK, Australia and Canada, While Attracting a Whole New Generation of Young Fans
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Edgier in tone and sporting a versatile and high profile cast, MGM's hour-long, sci-fi series Stargate Universe (SGU) is on the fast track to becoming the most successful installment in Stargate franchise history. Reporting impressive debuts in the U.S., the UK, Canada and Australia, SGU is attracting a large number of younger viewers and proving that a new generation of fans is embracing the next era of Stargate.
"Many of our characters are younger, inexperienced and should not be on this mission," added Brad Wright, co-creator of SGU. "This opens the door to relationships and storylines that younger audiences want to see."
SGU debuted in the U.S. on Syfy to the best franchise premiere performance in four years, drawing more than 2.3 million viewers. The series grabbed 2.35 million total viewers with 1.32 million Adults 25-54, and 1.12 million Adults 18-49 during its two-hour debut.
In Canada, SGU premiered on SPACE with a record breaking audience of 565,000 making it SPACE's highest rated single episode ever. Launching on Sky1 in the UK, SGU delivered 1,042,000 viewers for episode one and 961,000 for episode two, earning the series the biggest "Stargate" audience in almost five years.
In Australia, SGU was the best performing show on the Sci-Fi pay television platform, posting a 6.4% share. This performance represented an increase of 411% in the time slot (Fridays 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.) versus the previous programming of the last four weeks. At GateWorld:

UNIVERSAL THEMES
GateWorld talks with Joel Goldsmith
Music influences our entertainment more often than many of us seem to realize. A flat scene can be livened with color and substance with a single note. But too many notes can drown the meaning and destroy a sequence. It is a careful balance that must be weighed every step.
Joel Goldsmith has been charged with weighing every moment on Stargate going on 16 seasons. Baton in hand, he has braved the challenge of "reinventing the wheel" for this third live-action incarnation of the Stargate television series with fresh faces and a grittier atmosphere.
In GateWorld's exclusive interview, Joel reveals his struggle -- and ultimate satisfaction -- in finding SGU's voice after more than 300 hours of Stargate. He talks about his favorite moments in the pilot, weaving the tapestry of a more "minimalist" score, and gaining satisfaction from the unfolding plot.
