"New director Alex Chapple is deep into prep on 'Life.' Brian [J. Smith] (a.k.a. our Lieutenant Scott) worked with him on Law & Order and had nothing but great things to say about him in the lead up to his arrival. Alex, meanwhile, had some equally great things to say about Brian. Looking forward to their collaboration on this episode which will offer some significant insight into our various players including a little surprise or two. Or three."

S-P.de: Hello, Mr. Bowyer-Chapman. Thanks for the interview opportunity. You're playing a character named Darren Becker on Syfy's new series Stargate Universe. Did you initially audition for that character or did you initially have a different role in mind?
JBC: Actually, it was a long casting process for me. Over the course of about 2 months I read for 3 different characters. Initially I went in to read for MSGT Greer (played by Jamil Walker Smith). A few weeks later they called me back to read for Sgt.Curtis (played by Bradley Stryker) and finally the following day I read for Airman Darren Becker who I ended up landing. At first I was really wanting to play Greer, but after seeing what Jamil has done with him, I couldn't imagine better casting. Sgt.Curtis was written as a larger role than Becker, but I've actually ended up filming a lot more episodes as Becker than I would have had I booked Curtis, so for that I'm grateful.

Small disclosure: I have a total girl-crush on Amanda Tapping. Not only is she foxy and smart, but she lives and breathes sci-fi. As any one who's met her can tell you is as lovely as she seems. I kind of want her to be my big sister, but I was too shy to ask. She visited us at SPACE yesterday with her partners in crime, Sanctuary co-Creators Damian Kindler and Martin Wood. It was kind of hard to concentrate, and as you can probably tell by the frequency of the Facebook and Twitter updates, it was all kinds of awesome.
... Amanda is going to host tonight's episode of InnerSPACE tonight, discussing Eureka and the upcoming episode of Sanctuary, which she directed. Very cool!
And before I forget, the three Sanctuary creators have given us three signed scripts of 'End of Nights Pt. 1' to put into a contest! So enter now for this great chance to win some excellent Sanctuary legacy material.'

Stargate Universe - - Sci Fi Pi : Video interview Lou Diamond Phillips
From Australia's SyFy web site, SciFi Pi, a video interview with Lou Diamond Phillips:
Stargate Universe has come with it's fair share of mind-stretching casting choices, from the man who was Begbie in Trainspotting to the man who was Richie Valens in La Bamba, there's no shortage of big screen firepower, or small screen 'wow - did NOT see that coming'.
We were lucky enough to speak with Lou Diamond Phillips (or LDP, as he's known on the Vancouver set of SGU) on Skype, who was more than happy to share his thoughts (and a few impersonations) on the show, his career and the fun he and the cast have making SCI FI's new hit show.

SANCTUARY
As the Season 2 continues 'you're going to see a lot of changes in terms of the interpersonal relationships," says executive producer/actress/director Amanda Tapping. We're also going to see Tapping, who's wearing three hats these days, direct an episode called 'Veritas.' [NOTE: Airs this Friday at 10pm on SyFy [US].)
She chose that specific episode because "I was directing and very stressed out. There was very little acting required for that which was good. So it was in some ways easier, but it is very much a Will story. It is a 'who done it' essentially. Magnus is accused of murder and it's Will's job to try to prove her innocent," says Tapping.
"It was me working with Robin and I'm really proud of it. I don't usually toot my own horn very loudly because I can always find fault, but this episode looks really cool. There's some great shots and the performances are wonderful and it's a really interesting, succinct little story. Alan McCullough wrote it and it's a nice little bottle show. It's a really great story."
After that there's an episode she compares to last season's powerful submarine episode, 'Requiem.' "'Next Tuesday' is an episode that's all about Will and Magnus. It's a Damian [Kindler] and Martin [Wood] figure out how to torture Robin and Amanda episode. We end up in the bore well of an abandoned oil rig in a helicopter that's crashed and that's how it starts."
According to Tapping, director Wood "shoots stuff like that as a play. He shoots the scenes in sequence and so from an acting perspective, it's a physical challenge, but also the emotional challenge of doing 12 pages of play every day. As hard as it is, it's also one of the most rewarding. So I think 'Next Tuesday' stands out just as an amazing challenge.
And in December, in 'Penance,' a familiar face will pop up. Michael Shanks, who co-starred with Tapping for 10 years in Stargate SG-1 as Daniel Jackson, will take on the role of character named Jimmy.

SGU: STARGATE UNIVERSE
"It really is more realistic show. As soon as you abandon things like aliens that look like humans and speak English, you can into darker places and more character-driver stories," says executive producer Brad Wright.
With Universe headed for a big hiatus, there will be a big cliffhanger to keep us warm and cozy until its return in spring.
Episode 9 is called 'Life,' and it's exactly that," says Wright. "It is what life is like on Destiny and it's written by Carl Binder. It is a wonderful character piece that looks in to the lives of lots of our characters. Scott brings them all together, brings the stories together, to portray the shared experience of life aboard Destiny. It's really, really quite moving and touches a lot of the characters on the show. One of my favorite episodes of the first 10. In fact, I love the first 10 episodes (laughs)."
The 10th episode, 'Justice,' offers that big cliffhanger. "Something happens aboard the Destiny that puts Young's leadership in question," he says. "We just saw the final mix on that episode. It's so good ... There's some pretty big events in that episode that makes you go, 'Oh, my God' What the hell are they going to do?' I think where we go with it is also very intriguing. We're also coming to some big episodes in the spring."
Wrights says we'll see some familiar faces in Universe's future. "Richard Dean Anderson will return, Michael Shanks will return, Amanda Tapping returns. We want to remind the audience that this is still Stargate and they're all still part of the Stargate universe. There is an SG=1 out there doing their thing and Jack O'Neill is still in charge of Home World Command even though the series is not on anymore."

STARGATE ATLANTIS - FANS CHOICE BLU-RAY DISC B
The latest in a flurry of recent Stargate releases, this Blu-ray disc contains the episodes chosen by fans for this particular release. Fans also helped design and choose the cover art. The featured episodes are the start of the five-year journey (in the form of a feature-length pilot), and the version of series finale, 'Enemy at the Gate.' Never mind the poetic convenience of having the first and last episodes of Atlantis in once place, MGM says that this is the only Stargate Atlantis release for Blu-ray, which means this will be the only to get Atlantis with high-def picture and sound. (MGM Home Entertainment, $29.99)

Stargate Universe - Questions for Peter Kelamis (Dr. Adam Brody)?
From Joseph Mallozzi's blog update for November 14 '09:
(Please follow the link for the complete blog update and to view behind the scenes photos from the production of 'Time'.)
Actor Peter Kelamis (SGU’s Adam Brody) Wants Your Questions! Carl’s Creature Mishap!
... Oh, hey, prior to heading off on hiatus, I told several cast members that I’d like them to swing by the blog and do a Q&A now that the show has finally started airing (David Blue and Brian J. Smith did one prior to the premiere and I aim to get them back for another go now that you’re all familiar with their characters). Anyway, Peter Kelamis, who plays Adam Brody on SGU, checked in with me the other day, dropping me an email on an unrelated topic – and has found himself officially corralled. SO, if you’ve got questions for actor/comedian/pet psychic/t.v. scientist, start posting. I’ll be gathering them up through Monday. What was it like working on the first year of Stargate: Universe? Where would he like to see his character go (provided we haven’t killed him off yet) next year? Which is his favorite sandwich off crafts service and why do they serve up those little baby carrots? I mean, come on. It’s not as if anybody actually eats them!
Also, while perusing my backlog of photos, I came across a batch I snapped during the Time shoot. As you know, the creatures used are underwater denizens from the deep, deep depths of the Pacific Ocean and, while deadly, can be docile given the right conditions: while sleeping, drugged, or dead. So our resident monster wrangler, Evil Kenny Gibbs showed up with one for a little show-and-tell and, well, things got a little out of hand…
Pleased to see that the response to Time has been overwhelmingly positive. I’ll weigh in with further thoughts after the episode airs in the U.K.

An excerpt from the Production section of the Episode Guide:
"The quiet suspense of today's shipboard mystery was in marked contrast to the gloomy, dank, heavy ordnance-laced mayhem of the preceding days. And it's just as well. My teeth are still chattering from the M5 barrage that lit up the shadows of Stage 1 the last time I dropped in. Yes, some delightfully creepy goings-on in 'Time' (a Robert C. Cooper joint that completed shooting yesterday) that will no doubt look all the more delightful and creepy once the episode is finished.
"By all indications, the cast enjoyed themselves immensely -- particularly actor Jamil Walker Smith who was reveling in the cold, wet, and muddy conditions. Now, we shift focus from the dark and dangerous alien environment of 'Time' to the shocking discovery and troubling developments presented in 'Justice.'"

Stargate Atlantis - GateWorld: Rachel Luttrell Audio Interview
At GateWorld:
WORKING MOM
GateWorld Talks With Rachel Luttrell
It's been close to a year since the final episode of Stargate Atlantis, "Enemy at the Gate," premiered. But for the cast members and some of the crew who helped make the series a sensation, the time away from the series has been even longer.
At Creation Entertainment's Chicago Stargate Convention this past August, GateWorld took some time to sit down with the one female cast member who stayed with the series from beginning to end: Rachel Luttrell.
In the few spare minutes she had between convention duties, Rachel discussed the joys of motherhood, her reflections on the time she spent on the series, a new project she's developing, the chances of her recording a music album, and more!
This interview runs over eight minutes and is available in audio. It's also transcribed [at the link above]!

At Zap2It's Kate O'Hare's Hot Cuppa TV:

She Blinks to Conquer -- Morena Baccarin of 'V'
By Kate O'Hare on November 10, 2009
ABC's remake of "V" hit big in the ratings when it premiered [Nov. 3rd] and also stirred up a bit of controversy, with some claiming it's a veiled (or not so veiled, depending whom you ask) criticism of the current administration, and others claiming it's just a show about disguised aliens coming to Earth and promising hope, change and universal healthcare in exchange for unquestioning devotion.
... Whatever you think the show is really about, one thing's for sure -- it's really a TV show, and it got really good ratings, which is really good news for star Morena Baccarin, who plays Anna, the beguiling alien leader.
Here are the highlights of a brief chat we had after the "V" premiere:
Q: What did you think when you realized "V" was a hit?

Amanda Tapping Launches Charity Website and Gives Sanctuary Spoilers
by Jenna Busch
Posted: November 12, 2009
Just when you thought sci-fi legend Amanda Tapping couldn't get any cooler...for eleven years, she starred as Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter in Stargate SG-1. Colonel Sam also appeared in twenty five episodes of Stargate Atlantis. She's guest starred on Stargate Universe. And she's currently starring in one of my favorites, Sanctuary. If you're not watching it, and you should be, Tapping plays Dr. Helen Magnus, a hundred-and-fifty-seven-year-old English scientist who runs a sanctuary for non-human creatures (vampires, mermaids ... the kind you don't see in zoos). The show is largely filmed in front of a green screen and was the first North American show to use the RED camera exclusively.
Tapping has just started a charity called “Sanctuary for Kids,” which will raise money for smaller charities, the ones that have suffered the most during this economic mess we find ourselves in. They'll be auctioning off a Sanctuary set visit, props from the show and a Skype chat with Tapping and the show's creator Damian Kindler. Tapping tells us that she knows how generous sci-fi fans can be, and that she knows they'll be willing to help out. Tapping also gave us some great info on what's coming up on the show, whether or not she'll be appearing on another episode of Ghost Hunters and reuniting with SG-1 costar Michael Shanks during his guest appearance on her show. (Check out our exclusive first look at photos from the episode, "Penance" with Shanks [at the link above], and a sneak peek of Friday's episode, "Fragments.")

Stargate Universe - Innerspace: Alaina Huffman Audio Interview
At Canada's Space Channel's Innerspace:
InnerSpace recently spoke Alaina Huffman who plays Lt. Tamara “TJ” Johansen on Stargate Universe from her home in L.A. She is one smart lady and had tons of great stories on the show and the SGU family she's worked with in Vancouver. Listen to the interview here.
Thanks for all the fan questions, everyone! I had a chance to bring Alaina your Q’s on her favourite episode (@CraigRMacDonald, Twitter), whom she’d like to inhabit with the communication stones (@Andew James Scott, Facebook), and Whether she’ll appear again on Smallville in the role of Black Canary (@Ron Graham, Facebook).
Alaina also gave a great response to those who crave stronger actions from the female characters. Now go give it a listen and watch Alaina’s favourite episode of Season 1, Time, this Friday at 10ET/7PT.

Ask Matt
By Matt Roush November 08, 2009
... Question: So I am on board with wherever V is going to take us, but I have a few thoughts. First off, one of the best things about the first episode was the interaction between Alan Tudyk and Elizabeth Mitchell. I was so disappointed to find out he was one of them. I know it was a great shock moment, but I feel cheated that we won't get to explore their partnership. I hope we get more of the amazing Mr. Tudyk because what a waste if he was only cast for such a minor role. My other problem with the premiere episode is probably one that most people didn't even notice. In the opening scenes, the gentleman in the wheelchair was halfway up the steps to the church. I am at a loss to explain it. There was no ramp, no elevator. How on earth did he get halfway up, and why halfway? If someone was assisting him into church, why wouldn't they take him all the way up? Frankly, it looked stupid. Yes, I am open to accept spaceships and alien lizards in people suits, but this particular scene bothered me. Also, have you seen Stargate Universe? This is a show I really wanted to love. I enjoyed SG-1 and loved Stargate Atlantis, but this latest installment leaves me feeling flat. I understand that they want to create a different show, more serious then the previous two, but so far for me nothing is working. The characters are boring. I can't seem to care about any of them, and with actors as talented as Robert Carlyle, David Blue and Ming Na, that shouldn't happen. The choice to keep the set so dark just makes me think they have something to hide, as in a bad set design. It doesn't strike me as moody or gritty, but rather that they are trying and failing to achieve that. The lines for Eli are trying way too hard to be comic relief. None of the peril feels real, I have no sense of danger for any of the main characters. I adore science fiction and was really looking forward to having a new Friday night show, but I’m afraid that this isn't it. —Linda
Matt Roush: First, V. The shock value of having a recognizable actor (from past genre work) like Alan Tudyk be revealed to be a “visitor” was an important twist for the show to be able to pull off. His name is still listed in the guest cast in ABC’s releases for the next few episodes, so maybe you will be seeing more of him. (I’d like to be surprised if that turns out to be the case.) Your nitpick about the man in the wheelchair on the church steps is something that got past me each time I screened the pilot, but yes, continuity lapses can really take you out of the “reality” of the story if you let it. I’ve got nothing to add to that. Secondly, Stargate Universe. I can’t really argue with you that the show’s relentless grimness (in the episodes I’ve seen; I’m one or two behind) could work against its in the long run, especially for those weaned on the previous Stargate series’ lighter touch. The big problem, as you note, is that unlike the camaraderie and chemistry of the previous casts, very few characters have popped yet, although I like the intensity of Robert Carlyle and the “math-boy” nerdiness of David Blue. And I do think the show has managed to sustain a fairly consistent tone of danger and fear, given that much of what happens on this Ancient ship is out of their control. But since we know there’s not a show if they don’t somehow survive, it’s probably true that if it doesn’t become a little more of a joyride in the near future, complaints will likely get even louder.
