ComicsOnline Interviews Stargate's David Hewlett
**snippage**
MS: What can fans look forward to seeing with your character this season?
DH: I think the more sarcastic I can be the better. It's interesting. This season is a big change for us. All of a sudden you have certain characters interacting that you didn't have before. McKay is in this wonderful situation; he's interacting with his girlfriend, and Samantha Carter and the new Doctor, played by Jewel Staite. He's really in his element right now. It's neat. It's really playing with all the character stuff we had previously set up and really breaking it down and changing things this year.
**snippage**
Stargate Atlantis returns to the SciFi Channel this September [September 28 at a NEW time - 10pm] and David's new film A Dog's Breakfast is now available on iTunes.
More Stargate interviews to come!

Stargate SG-1 - Ben Browder - Download UK Radio Interview

Ben Browder
Farscape was a show that took me by suprise. I didn't watch the first episode and only casually dipped into the subsequent few, but then something strange began to happen. I found myself watching it more and more, and noticing the humour, the great stories, the great acting, and the central character of astronaut John Crichton lost at the other side of the universe, but with a ready quip and a likable style, he grew into his surroundings and so began to enthrall me with a set of stories that epitomised great television.
I decided that if there was ever a reason to interview the actor behind the character, I would. Before that show, I never even knew who Ben Browder was. But I soon grew to realise that this was a guy of immense talent, intelligence and wit, who really is a hero.
And here it is! The interview...But not just the radio version oh no! Whilst talking to Ben about his work on Farscape and SG1, it occurred to me that if you're a fan, you might like to hear it all, you know, warts and all.
So with Ben's permission, here is all of our chat, the bonus unheard material you might say.
Enjoy.

http://www.scifinow.co.uk/images/your_sfn/Top_tens/tv_heroes/index.html
#1 is Captain James T. Kirk and...
#6 Major General Jack O'Neill
STARGATE SG-1
Year: 1997
Creator: Jonathan Glassner, Brad Wright
Played by: Richard Dean Anderson
A sinister selection of enemies faced Jack O'Neill in his eight years with SG-1, but every single one fell victim to his greatest asset: his wit. Never afraid to quip at an enemy, O'Neill is worth having around for the goofi ness alone. However, he has the self-sacrificing dramatic qualities that are needed in a heroic protagonist, too.
Take `Lost City', for example, in Season 7: knowing it could kill him if used again, O'Neill downloaded the Ancient knowledge back into his brain, searching for a way to defeat Anubis and the Goa'uld. No wonder he earned the rank of Major General.
# 10 John Crichton
FARSCAPE
Year: 1999
Creator: Rockne S O'Bannon
Played by: Ben Browder
Crichton's tale is another of science fiction's great `fish out of water' scenarios, but it's his infl uence and determination that makes him hero material. Aided by some terrific characterisation on the part of the writers, Crichton's struggles in his head made for some pristine sci-fi viewing, and his relationship with Aeryn was
well thought out and touching as well.
The trousers made the character, though. The amount of effort that Ben Browder must have put into getting dressed each day must have been astronomical. A few more seasons of the character would have done us nicely, but we're thankful for the miniseries, at the very least.

Tapping discusses SG-1 movies
Thursday - August 9, 2007 | by Darren Sumner
The first two in what the studio hopes to be a series of direct-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movies represent a big change from the week-to-week television series, actress Amanda Tapping told ComicsOnline.com in a recent interview. Tapping plays Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter in the films.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum were filmed in Vancouver this past spring, and will be released in 2008.
Tapping said that the movies -- which carried production budgets of $7 million each -- feel like major motion pictures. "The shooting is completely different," she said. "We are taking a lot longer to get the shots we want. The sets are bigger and the scopes are bigger. When you are sitting in an F-15, waiting to do these flying sequences and you have a whole battalion of Air Force pilots behind you, you realize this is just huge. When a nuclear submarine is coming up through the ice and your camera is on it, you realize 'THIS IS HUGE.'"

McGillion Talks Atlantis Return

Paul McGillion, who will be returning to Stargate Atlantis in the role of Dr. Carson Beckett for a two-episode arc during the upcoming fourth season, told SCI FI Wire that it feels great to be back on the show after nearly a year away. "Honestly, it feels like coming home," McGillion said in an interview on the phone from the set in Vancouver, B.C. "And everyone's been so terrific to me. The crew gave me a little round of applause when I came back on the set. And that was really sweet. That felt really nice. And everyone's been really gracious towards me and it's just been really nice. I love the character, and the chance to reprise Beckett is my pleasure."
**snippage**
The future of the character beyond the two episodes remains unclear, but McGillion is open to the possibility of coming back on a more permanent basis. "We'll see what happens," he said." I don't know what their plans are for the character or where I'm going to be, but it's always a pleasure to come back and work on the show, that's for sure. So I'm not ruling anything out."
In addition to McGillion’s return, Atlantis viewers can also look forward to guest appearances by Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) and Stargate SG-1’s Christopher Judge (Teal’c) in the upcoming fourth season. Stargate: Atlantis will return on Sept. 28 in a new timeslot on Fridays at 10 p.m. PT/ET.

PAUL MCGILLION RETURNS TO 'STARGATE ATLANTIS'
Published: August 8, 2007
Fan Favorite Returns for Two Episodes
Torri Higginson and Christopher Judge Also Guest Star in New Season
New York, NY – August 8, 2007 – Reports of Dr. Carson Beckett's untimely demise last season on SCI FI's Stargate Atlantis have been greatly exaggerated…or have they? Paul McGillion will reprise his role as everyone's favorite Scottish physician in a two-episode arc during the series' fourth season, which will premiere on Friday, September 28 at 10pm ET/PT.
It was the fan cry heard 'round the Pegasus galaxy when Dr. Beckett was unexpectedly killed in an explosion at the end of season 3. His return to Atlantis promises to be every bit as shocking.
In addition to McGillion's return, Atlantis viewers can also look forward to season 4 guest appearances by Torri Higginson ("Dr. Elizabeth Weir") and Stargate SG-1's Christopher Judge ("Teal'c").
Stargate Atlantis is executive produced by Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie. The series is currently in production on its fourth original season in Vancouver, BC. with Mallozzi and Mullie sharing the reins as showrunners.
The Stargate legacy continues to burn bright on SCI FI with the fourth original season of Atlantis. Amanda Tapping, one of the most beloved stars in the Stargate universe, travels to the Pegasus galaxy to join the Atlantis cast by reprising her role as television's most adored astrophysicist, Colonel Samantha Carter. Firefly's Jewel Staite also joins the cast this season as "Dr. Jennifer Keller." Taking the torch from SG-1 as television's most thrilling adventure series, Atlantis, promises to up the ante this season by introducing a powerful new race, welcoming new cast members and mourning the loss of some beloved friends.

Stargate Atlantis - GateWorld: Gero to Infinity - Audio Interview
From GateWorld:
http://www.gateworld.net/interviews/gero_to_infinity.shtml
(Please follow the link to listen to the audio interview or to read the transcript at GateWorld.)
To everything there is a season. And to every season there is change. Season Three of Stargate Atlantis was no exception. Some changes we enjoyed. Some we didn't. But all in all, it was to make us believe Atlantis is a living, breathing organism -- a creature continuing to grow -- while dealing with creative decisions and the unexpected road blocks of life.
In our latest interview with Martin Gero, the writer/producer for the series discusses some of the latest changes, both in cast and crew. He expresses his feelings toward the departure of Brad and Rob from the day-to-day operations of Atlantis, and to the changes in the cast of the series itself. This article includes complete spoilers for Season Four!
GateWorld's interview with Martin is available in MP3 audio format for easy listening, and runs 38 minutes. It is also transcribed [at the site]. You can also download the interview to your MP3 player and take GateWorld with you!
A brief excerpt:

GW: How did you to come to the conclusion that leaving Lantia was the best course of growth for the show? Add a level of adventure to it or a level of insecurity? Because we've had this planet for so long and now we're going to take off from it.
MG: I personally had a problem with -- everyone in that galaxy knows where Atlantis is. Everyone. So if the only thing that comes out of this is we're on a different planet that people can't go to ... We did the whole "invisible city" thing for a while. That was incredibly effective. But word got out again. Word will get out again, too, this time.
The season finales need to be cool. We've been on this planet for three years. We knew that thing was a space ship for three years. We saw it take off in the opening moments of the pilot. We kind of cheated with "Progeny" in getting the city into space. I thought, knowing the potential changes that we were going to make in the fourth season, I thought there would be a sense of roundness to it if we were to sink the city again and then have it take off. It's all just cool stuff. At the end of the day this is going to be a really awesome thing to do.

Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/Sanctuary: Digital Video Magazine - Martin Wood Interview
From Digital Video Magazine:

(Please follow the link for the complete interview. There are photos at the site.)
Close-ups: Shooting in the Sanctuary
Digital workflow rules CG-heavy online series.
By Terence Keegan
After spending the last decade producing and directing TV’s sci-fi cult hit Stargate, Martin Wood is no stranger to virtual worlds.
So when Stargate collaborator Damian Kindler came to Wood last year with a new script—in which an ass-kicking mother-daughter team chases a bald-headed bad guy through a world rife with mutant creatures, labyrinthine underground hideouts and time-travel portals—the director immediately saw a videogame look and feel for the project.
Add to the mix Vancouver, B.C.-based Stage 3 Media, a new media design firm, along with a few visionary production partners, and Sanctuary was destined to become the biggest-budget direct-to-Web series to date.
Wood notes that a traditional live-action production could have burned through the series’ multi-million dollar budget in the blink of an eye. “To make Sanctuary look as big as it needed to, we couldn’t do it traditionally, [building] massive sets and [shooting on] locations. You can blow $100,000 on constructing a set, and people would never know.” Instead, Sanctuary would integrate real actors into a virtual world, somewhat in the style of a 300 or Sin City. Stage 3 completed some two hours of HD sequences featuring monstrous CG beings, period settings, and a cavernous virtual church for $4.5 million CDN (about US$4.3 million).

The Stargate Atlantis production team has finally nailed down the rest of the season after returning from the show's hiatus, executive producer Joseph Mallozzi told fans on his blog this week.
"The last story slot has finally been filled. We spent most of yesterday spinning, then breaking 'Harmony' which I am really, really, REALLY looking forward to," Mallozzi wrote. "Alas, I won't be writing it as Marty G. [Martin Gero] will be assuming said duties, but I have no doubt he'll do a brilliant job AND have a lot of fun with it."
