Trey's dad, Ryan, works in the Camera Department as a Steadicam Operator, and is currently working on the television series, "Stargate Atlantis".

MPS II is a disease characterized by the buildup of certain enzymes in the body which interfere with body's cell and organ's ability to function.

There is no cure for MPS II. Stargate SG-1 wants to help find a cure and asks for your help in finding a cure. Go to http://www.treypurcell.com for more information on Trey and his family's journey to finding a cure for MPS II.

...I did find time to swing by set where the gals were cabled up and making like stage version Peter Pans. It's nice to see that Amanda has seemingly conquered her fear of heights - at least for the duration of this episode. Maybe I CAN get her [to] wrestle that alligator in the finale. And for all those interested, Harmony is
coming along nicely. With it, Midway, Kindred I and II, and Last Man closing out the season, there's no doubt that we'll certainly be finishing VERY strong.

Today's pics: Ivon on set, Alex corrals the little devil, tuxedo bars, too much fun.

Anonymous #1 writes: " It seems as though, from some of your comments, as though you feel some disdain for GW."

Answer: Not at all. Gateworld does more to support our show than any other website out there. I responded the way I did because the individual who posted the comment referred specifically to something said on the Gateworld forums.

Kellie writes: " 1) Will we get to see Sheppard hit things/people with sticks in season 5? 2) How many episodes will Weir be in in season 4 and how much screen time will she have (in minutes and seconds, please) 3) Is Sam going to boss everyone around and make them cry? 4) Will McKay have more episodes gloriously dedicated to him than the million he had in season 3? 5) Do you like dogs? 6) When will Woolsey be voted Sexiest Man of the Year? 7) How does it feel to be more famous than asswipes like Moe Jacuzzi?"

Answers: 1) Yes. There will be at least one "stick upside the head" shot in every episode of season 5. 2) I have Carl working on the exact timing. 3) Yes. She will also kick Zelenka on two separate occasions. 4) Although we are only producing 20 episodes this season, 21 of them will be McKay-centered episodes. 5) No. The ones pictured on my blog are on loan to me. 6) 2007 sounds like a pretty good year. 7) Not bad. Not bad at all.

Answer: Sure. Everyone got leathers this season.

Anonymous #5 writes: "Someone on GW made a comment that they traced the season four downloads to Vancouver. Interesting. A coincidence, or something more?"

Answer: Someone on GW can mention they saw a gnome climbing out of a David Hewlett robot and I'd find that of roughly equal interest.

Firefly 827347 writes: "I was wondering if you could tell me what the different colours of scripts mean? It says "blue script" in one of the pictures, does that have any significance?"

Answer: When a script comes out for the concept meeting, it comes out as a white draft. As we progress through prep week, changes are made and the pages containing changes are put out as blue pages. In the next round of changes, pages containing changes are put out as pink pages. And as more changes are made, more colors of the rainbow are tapped: green, yellow, grey, goldenrod, tartan, and double-white (not to be confused with single white which looks exactly the same).

Neep writes: "Anyway... a few of us were wondering why Ba'al's people are all blonde."

Answer: What can I say? The guy prefers blondes.

**snippage**

Anonymous #7 writes: "I was wondering what factor's went into the decision to include Rachel's pregnancy in Teyla's storyline rather than hiding it as when Amanda was pregnant?"

Answer: Timing is everything. Amanda was pregnant over the hiatus and gave birth early in season 9. You'll note that she missed a bunch of episodes early in that season and, in the small instances that Carter did pop up, the pregnancy was easily concealed. Rachel was pregnant throughout the show's fourth season and given that we wanted to do more with her character this season, diminishing her role or limiting her character by shooting her behind computers or clutching baskets of turtle root was not an option so we elected to embrace the pregnancy and write it into the show.

Paula writes: "So now that the end of filming is rapidly approaching, are there any plans for an end-of-season shindig?"

Answer: Sure. We always cap off the year with a wrap party.

Is Anybody Else Watching SANCTUARY?

By: Stephen Lackey, Columnist
Date: Sunday, September 16, 2007

I've talked a lot about internet TV and video on demand before because I really think it's the future of television. There have been plenty of small online shows out there of all genres, even soap operas. Sanctuary, a web series I just discovered, may be one of the best executed so far. It stars Amanda Tapping, who you may know from Stargate SG-1. The story is set in the future where strange mutants
are the key to the survival of the human race. Each episode follows Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping), her daughter, and a protégé as they delve into the labyrinthine world inhabited by these monsters. It's dark, and it features a unique amalgamation of science and supernatural.

Okay, I'm back to field your comments and questions -

Anonymous #1 writes: "So, is Shep's ex-wife's name Karen or Nancy?"

Answer: While I appreciate a clearly devoted fan's attempt to correct me, I don't think I need to point out that since I was working on the script in questions yesterday afternoon, I should be in a better to know that Sheppard's ex-wife's name is Karen. I mean Nancy.

**snippage**

Elizabeth writes: "1) Will Sam be getting the ATA gene? 2) What episodes are Weir in? 3) Will the girl in Sateda be in any more episodes? 4) When is Stargate Ark Of Truth and Stargate Continuum supposed to be? After, during or before season four and season ten finale? 5) Will Bates be returning in season four?"

Answers: 1) No. 2) Good question. 3) Could be. 4) Definitely after the season ten finale. 5) Another good question.

Anonymous #2 writes: "Can you tell us if there are any plans to use Torri in season five?"

Answer: I appreciate your persistence in not taking my previous "we have no plans beyond season four" responses to heart. The truth is we've already written the whole fifth season including the Sheppard stick-fighting episode. You're gonna love it.

**snippage**

Anonymous #2 writes: "Will you ever tell us which is Torri's fourth episode this season or will you make us wait and see?"

Answer: Given that I haven't answered this question the first 50 times it was asked, I'd put my money on "make use wait and see".

**snippage**

Answer: It can be very tricky.

Even though my birthday is over a month away, Carl took me out last night for a very early birthday dinner. Why? Because Carl is a generous fellow and a very good friend - who no doubt has considered the possibility that I might keep him in Vancouver long after our wrap date in order to, uh, spin stories for next season and "Oh, yeah, since you're already in town" celebrate my special day.

**snippage**

Thanks go out to Carl for a memorable birthday dinner. I hope he enjoys his hiatus in Los Angeles…while Martin Gero and Alan McCullough are in Vancouver spinning stories for next season.

Fortified by my Hungarian feast, I came into work today prepared for any potential crisis. Alas, no crisis today (unless you count the fruit in the vanilla trifle served at lunch), but I did put out a couple of pink pages on Outcast (something for the Ronon-Sheppard scene, and something for Sheppard's scene with his ex-wife Karen),
approved the Comic Con promos, approved a This Mortal Coil final I-really-mean-it-final mix, and swung by set to see how our little (HUGE!) episode Trio is coming along. Unfortunately, I don't have much in the way of pics on this one because: 1) The tilting set is often inaccessible and difficult to negotiate, 2) Stage 2 is dark but so full of atmosphere that any pictures taken with a flash come out looking fog-screened, 3) Stage 2 is dark and any pictures taken without a flash come out, well, dark. The report on this one: David, Amanda, and Jewel are having waaay too much fun. This one will hold the record for Most In Between Takes Laughing.

Today's pics: My dinner with Carl.

Mrs.B108 write: "1)Will Davos reveal more to Atlantis than we've already heard? 2)Does the "Kindred" refer to someone/people we already know?"

Cookie Monster answer: 1) Cookie Monster don't know what you already hear. If too much, den yes. If not enough, den no. 2) Neider. Kindred is little chocolate egg with toy inside.

Iamza write: "I know this is a longshot at best, but is there any chance you could slip a word in the ear of the MGM people letting them know there are a bunch of UK fans who would love to buy episodes from iTunes, but who can't as they aren't available on the UK iTunes site as yet?"

Cookie Monster answer: Oh boy, Cookie Monster know how Iamza feel. Sesame Street is same way. We still only on season 2 of Beverly Hillbillies.

Anonymous write: "i wanted to ask about the new season 4 intro is Rachel's name going to appear before or after Amanda's name?"

I returned to work to find not one but two director's cuts AND a final mix awaiting me. Kudos to Joel Goldsmith on his terrific score for This Mortal Coil. This one is really special. Andy's director's cut of Midway is a lot of fun and chock full of action. Watch the big guys throw down and mete out some serious punishment with the big guns (and their equally big fists). Meanwhile, Will did a masterful job on Harmony. I LOVE this episode. I can't say enough great things about Jodelle Ferland's performance. Her interactions with the boys is both hilarious and touching.

Concerning the leaked episodes debacle… Yeah, sending out the rough cuts was a "major oversight" but, to be fair, SciFi was sending out those press kits as part of their ongoing efforts to promote the show's upcoming premiere. Also, Mark Stern and co. have been nothing short of great this year, showing us a lot of creative support throughout a sometimes bumpy run. So, regardless of how thing shake out in the end, we really do appreciate all of the time and effort they put into helping make this Atlantis`s best season yet. Also, to all those who don't know yet - SciFi Channel will be broadcasting season 4 in HD! Trust me - the show will look that much better this year!

MajorSamFan writes: "If there's a season five, do you foresee the Nox ever deciding to visit the Pegasus Galaxy?"

Answer: It's unlikely.

ZoniDuck writes: "Hypothetically speaking, if a person had... access to the leaked episodes, but had not downloaded them yet, and said imaginary person (who allegedly does not have a Nielsen box) were trying to be strong and wait until 9/28 (despite the fact that everyone and their mother is squeeing and flinging spoilers around), could you offer some words of encouragement, and explain the reasons why watching a rough cut of the episodes is a horrible, awful idea?"

Answer: Well, if this hypothetical person was, hypothetically speaking, going to hypothetically watch the downloaded version anyway, I would suggest they watch the September 28th premiere on SciFi so that they can be surprised and blown away by the unexpected - story, revelations, visual effects - and then check out the rough cut in their possession as a sort of behind-the-scenes/in-the-making featurette to give them a better appreciation of what goes into the making of a given episode.

Elizabeth writes: "1) Any Jack and Sam moments in Stargate Continuum? 2) What happened to the little girl in Sateda? Did she survive? Does Ronon have any children? 3) Who is going to be in season five? Is O'Neill going to be in season five?"

Answers: 1) Yes, they are in scenes together. 2) She survived and was placed with another off-world community the Satedans did trade with. Ronon has no children. 3) No idea.

Horse N. Buggy writes: "Obviously, Nielson ratings are the big ticket item determining ratings. But for those of us without a magic box, does it help for us to buy episodes on iTunes?"

Answer: Good iTunes sales would certainly go a long way toward confirming to MGM that a fifth season would be a great idea.

Anonymous #2 writes: "Will love be a factor this season?"

Answer: I'm not sure what you mean by "a factor" but certainly love will influence a story or two this upcoming season.

Stargate Atlantis/SG1 - FOX's Stargate Hub Redesigned Sept. 13

FOX's Stargate Hub (for SG1/SGA DVDs) was redesigned today:

http://stargatehub.com/

Updates include:

1) A NEW background design for the main page.

2) A NEW section: Debriefing Room

- Choice of backgrounds:

- A) Stargate SG-1 - Morena Baccarin as Adria (and then rotates through several different SG1 wallpapers)

- B) Stargate Atlantis - Joe Flanigan from "Atlantis Rising, Part 2" (and then rotates through several different SGA wallpapers)

This section also includes Biographies of SG1/SGA cast/personnel (and includes Corin Nemec as Jonas Quinn). These biographies appear to be same ones from the SciFi Channel.

3) ANOTHER NEW section: Timeline

Is modeled after the cartouche in CTOG. Each year in Stargate history is represented (separate sections for SG1 and SGA), and within each year are gate symbols. Click on a gate symbol to get a brief episode synopsis.

4) ANOTHER NEW section: Through the Gate (coming soon)

<><><><>

As part of the redesign, the video clips (from episodes and featurettes) are now displayed on the right hand side of the screen, and are identified on mouse rollover. The News automatically loads now on the left hand side of the screen.

To gain access to the full site, click on "Enter the Gate."

The Gateroom area now includes:

WALLPAPER (no new wallpapers since the last update on Sept. 8th)

CHAT ICONS (only three icons so far: the SGC Stargate, a portion of the SGC Gate, and Jack)

SCREENSAVERS (is marked coming soon)

MOVING FORWARD

GateWorld Talks With Carl Binder

As Stargate Atlantis stands on the threshold of its fourth season, the show's writing staff faces a new series of challenges. Atlantis's sister show is off the air; SCI FI Channel ratings are down across the board; and there are major changes in the series' cast.

GateWorld recently sat down with seasoned writer-producer Carl Binder to talk about last year, the coming year, and his feelings about where the series stands as it moves forward into the new season. In the interview, he shares his thoughts on the difficulties of losing cast members, as well as his enthusiasm for new characters joining the show. He also tells us which episodes from the early part of Season Four he likes the most so far, and which Season Three episode he thought didn't measure up.

GateWorld's interview with Carl is available in MP3 audio format for easy listening, and runs about 25 minutes. It is also transcribed [at the site}. You can also download the interview to your MP3 player and take GateWorld with you!

A brief excerpt:

GW: Are you excited about having Jewel Staite on the show?

CB: Incredibly excited! I could not be happier, from her first day of dailies on "First Strike." She is a total pro.

We are all huge Firefly fans here on the show. We used her once before on "Instinct" as a Wraith, and knew she was great then. So when she came in as this character, it was terrific. And then, before we start shooting, we always have the cast and producer dinner, and I was able to talk to her for a long time. [She's] just a real
sweetheart and a pro, and has been a really nice addition to the show.

Well, back home now and thought I'd address an issue that's been on my mind for the past couple of days. I'm not sure if any of you have noticed, but it would seem that the first two episodes of season four have made their way onto the internet. That, my friends, is what I would call a bad case scenario. But not a worst case scenario. No. You know what a worst case scenario would be? If Sci Fi sent out the first two episodes of the season in their press kits and mistakenly included rough cuts instead of finished episodes. Yeah, that would be the worst of both worlds. Not only would the episodes be available for the fans to screen well before the premiere, but they would be half-finished episodes with temp visual effects and devoid of music
and sound effects. Ho ho ho! Imagine if THAT happened? Anyway -

JedI writes: "Will we ever get to see Sheppard use the stick fighting skills he's acquired from Teyla, other then just sparring?"

Answer: Not this year.

So if there is a season 5 will we see it happen?"

Answer: Yes. Even though we haven't given any real thought to stories beyond the season four finale, we do know that we absolutely must do a "Sheppard uses his stick fighting skills" episode. To that end, I have both Carl and Alan working on this high-priority idea and hope to have the makings of a two-parter (if not three-parter) built around the concept a.s.a.p.

Elizabeth writes: "Are there going to be any Jack and Sam moments in either Atlantis season four or the movies, Ark of Truth or Continuum?"

Answer: Jack will not be making an appearance in season four of Atlantis.

Anonymous #4 writes: "Will we get any evil or whumped Carter in Atlantis this season?"

Answer: Whumped Carter? Oh, yes.

Elizabeth writes: "1) Did you mean three pregnancies in Stargate Atlantis season four? If so,who?"

Answer: Rachel, David's wife, and, of course, Jason became a proud papa this season.

Nathan writes: " So. Whatever happened to Ben Browder? I know this post wont make it to the published list, unless you want to edit that name out.."

Answer: No need to edit the name out as I'll field the comment to make a point. Ben is presently working on a project for SciFi, a mini-series which he wrote. In my time working with him on SG-1, he was nothing if not professional, easy-going, and incredibly amiable. He would hang around the set, even after he'd wrapped, to see how the ensuing scenes played out or stick around for his off-camera dialogue. In this business, it's really hard to figure out who is genuine and who isn't. Well, the easiest way to find out is to go to the source. Forget the actors and the producers and the directors. Ask the crew who work on the show day in and day out. They'll tell you who the genuinely nice guys and gals are. And I can guarantee you that our crew will tell you Ben Browder was definitely one.

Anonymous #3 writes: "Your entry today makes me wonder, has any actor not been considered for a role because of his/her personality or known/reputed inability to get along with others?"

Answer: Oh yeah. We have a term for it: "LTS" - life's too short. Why waste your time on someone who is going to make everyone miserable if you don't have to?

Producers of Web Series Sanctuary Challenge Fans

Posted By: Michael J Simpson

Sanctuary, the online science fiction series starring Stargate's Amanda Tapping, recently completed its first 'season' of eight webisodes and left fans eager for more. The show ended on a cliffhanger that saw the titular institution overrun by Keepers of the Dead and at least two of the lead characters possibly dead. Production on new webisodes is scheduled to begin later this year. Fans wont have to wait to see how the writers resolve things, though. The series producers have challenged viewers to do that.

Beware of minor SPOILERS below for the upcoming fourth season of Stargate Atlantis.

Renowned actress Jewel Staite joins the cast of Stargate Atlantis this season as Dr. Jennifer Keller, the expedition's new chief medical officer. But who is Jennifer? GateWorld recently sat down with writer-producer Carl Binder, who had the opportunity to flesh out the new character in the Season Four episode "Missing."

Another Weir Rides the Bus

September 10, 2007

Stargate Atlantis has the Stargate spotlight all to itself on Sci Fi Fridays, so no more comparisons from reviewers like moi privy to the first two episodes of season four.

But the new setup isn’t all good for all cast members, as fans of the Sci Fi Channel drama already know – and as has been nagging at me since seeing the review disk. Torri Higginson’s character, Dr. Elizabeth Weir, the civilian leader of a key U.S. Air Force installation in another galaxy in the ancient city of Atlantis, has been reduced to a “recurring” role.

Taking Weir’s place in the star firmament of Atlantis is Amanda Tapping, who was the female lead in Stargate SG-1, the MGM show originally starring Richard Dean Anderson that premiered on Showtime in 1997 and spent its last five seasons on Sci Fi Channel. Sci Fi didn’t renew SG-1 for season 11, so MGM is producing SG-1 movies for DVD instead.

Sci Fi tried to promote Higginson, showing off her humor in interviews and behind-scenes videos and showing off her figure a little more in costume on the show. Tapping remains a bigger star, though, even after taking maternity leave in 2005.

My opinion: Tapping’s character of Samantha Carter, the brainy and weapons-trained astrophysicist and Air Force officer, deserves her continued service on Sci Fi in Atlantis’s Pegasus galaxy. Carter’s been tough, brilliant and gorgeous in Stargate roles longer than Weir, and has a big following.

But it would seem there ought to be room for both Carter and Weir, who was badly injured in an explosion during last season’s cliff-hanger ending.

Higginson is expected to return for Atlantis’s midseason finale on Dec. 7.

The cast of Stargate Atlantis contends with casting changes as they open the iris on season four

By Melissa Perenson

Change is afoot at Stargate Atlantis as the series enters its fourth season. For starters, the cast gets an infusion of new blood, with Stargate SG-1's Amanda Tapping and Firefly's Jewel Staite joining the lineup. And the stories will take some new directions in what has been described by many cast and crew as a shakeup of the status quo and a "soft reset" of the series. No surprise that Stargate Atlantis would be shaking things up a bit—after all, the stakes are higher now that companion series SG-1 is no longer on the air.

Let's listen in on what cast members David Hewlett (Rodney McKay), Amanda Tapping (Col. Samantha Carter), Rachel Luttrell (Teyla Emmagan) and Joe Flannigan (Lt. Col. John Sheppard) have to say about the upcoming season. Stargate Atlantis season four begins on Sept. 28 on SCI FI; season three comes out on DVD on Sept. 18.

David Hewlett, last year the unexpected demise of Dr. Carson Beckett [Paul McGillion] left a gap in Atlantis' core ensemble. How did you feel about that?

Hewlett: For me, there was a big hole there, because Paul, my friend, was no longer on set with me all the time. As it turns out, in sci-fi nobody dies—we've actually had him on set again recently, which was kind of fun. And I hope that we'll be seeing more of him. Well, that's just my hope. I wouldn't be surprised.

**snippage**

Amanda Tapping, you get to bring Carter to a whole new level in Atlantis. What's different about your character in Atlantis as opposed to Stargate SG-1?

Tapping: She now has to prove herself as a leader of an entire base and, of course, her style is that she doesn't want to piss anyone off. She's coming into a situation on Atlantis where there's a lot of heartache. They've lost one of their very dear leaders, and I think they're reluctant to welcome someone new at first. And then of course it turns out to be Sam Carter, which is good for some people and not so good for others. So she has to tread lightly, but I think part of her command, at least the way that I've chosen to play it, is that she relies entirely on the strength of the people who are around her.

She understands Shepherd's military expertise, and even though she may have the same amount of military expertise, it's not in this galaxy. She's never fought the Wraith before, so she defers to him a lot. She defers to McKay and his scientific expertise in the Pegasus galaxy. There's not as much head-butting with McKay as you might think — partly because she's in command and she has to show a certain modicum of respect even though he drives her crazy. And then Teyla and Ronon are complete unknowns to her, so she really has to make her way with them. So it's a lot different. It feels a lot different. The relationships are very new and fresh. Jewel Staite's on the show now as the doctor, and she's awesome—there's a neat friendship burgeoning there between our two characters.

**snippage**

Rachel Luttrell, the fourth season is taking things in a different direction—a soft reset, so to speak.

Luttrell: Yeah, in many ways it kind of has to be. First of all, the reins of the show have been passed on. Now Brad and Rob are taking much more of a back seat, and they've passed it on to Paul Mullie and Joe Mallozzi, our show runners. They're our go-to guys, and it's their vision that's being impressed on the show. Not only that, but season three was quite a big season, because we lost some very pivotal characters. Paul McGillion, Dr. Beckett, we lost him halfway through the season last year. And Dr. Elizabeth Weir, her character is taking on a completely different persona and going in an entirely new direction, and her involvement in the team is not as broad as it was in the past. That in itself has completely changed the face of the show. Having said that, there are still the key elements that make SGA what it is. But yes, it is different. We now have Amanda Tapping as part of our show—and they're working her to the bone [laughs]. And Jewel Staite has joined us.

**snippage**

Joe Flannigan, how has the interpersonal dynamic on the show changed in season four?

Flannigan: We've lost Paul McGillion, who was a valued member of our team, personally and professionally. So we miss him. We have lost Torri Higginson—my God, this sounds like a funeral—who was also a really valued member of our group. And we've also gained a really valuable member of our group, Amanda. She's a real veteran, a real professional, she knows the genre, and she can tackle the gobbledygook of science-fiction dialogue, perhaps even better than David, which is hard to do.

The dynamic that's developed by having Amanda in the show is that she and David Hewlett have a pre-existing relationship, so that's a very funny and entertaining thing to watch. My character now, I'm just listening, trying to keep up with the science of it. You find me listening a lot more. Or trying to listen.
