Well, today’s late call meant I could sleep in past 5:00 a.m. and not have to roll onto set until 11:00 a.m.-ish. They were just setting up the scene with special guest star and Extra correspondent Jerry Penacoli, a.k.a. Genii #3, a.k.a. Genii Jerry. Jerry was all smiles and laughs but the second Will yelled “Action!”, he was IN character - tensing up, quavering, and then hitting the dirt like Sir Lawrence Olivier as an after-sticked Julius Caesar. He even threw in a little finishing leg kick. Masterful!

We finished up the scene at the ruins a little before 8:00 p.m. at which point I was informed that we were moving. I packed away my camera, slipped my laptop into its case, tossed out my empty pudding can, then turned around…. Everyone was gone. And they’d taken the equipment with them. I was alone in the woods. Bewildered, I looked around to see if I could see which way they’d headed. A rustling in the brush behind me could well have been a meandering A.D. - but my first thought was “hungry cougar” and that was enough to send me quickly off in the opposite direction. I finally found a path that led me out of the forest and over to the trucks and trailers where the next scene was being set up: the late night search and sniff.

I returned home sleepy yet satisfied in the knowledge that this episode will surprise fans not unlike that enormous dead branch Techy Chuck leaned up against and sent crashing down onto the forest floor, mere inches from where I was standing.

GATES IN MOTION

GateWorld talks with Carl Coss

Stargate Worlds, the Massively Multiplayer game, is now in full-on production in Phoenix, Arizona, and GateWorld continues to bring you insider looks and interviews with the team bringing the MMO to life! Recently Carl Coss, the head of the animation department, recently took time with GateWorld editor/Stargate Worlds community manager David Read to discuss where his team is currently in the project.

Carl tells us about the excitement of being involved in the decision-making of the project, leading a team of animators, and trying to find time to animate himself. From animating a Goa'uld symbiote to a rudimentary Asgard walk, it's all a day at the office at Stargate Worlds!

GateWorld's interview with Carl runs 25 minutes. The video requires QuickTime 7.0 or higher. Can't play the file? It's also transcribed [at the site]!

I finally made it to Widgen Park where Will was setting up the only scene we'd be shooting that day: scene 29, a seven and a half page complex monster. Arguing, stunning, fixing, shooting, running, jumping, falling. And that was just the behind-the-scenes goings-on. By the time lunch was called, we were running a little late but Will assured me he'd be making up time in the afternoon. Of course the best laid plans of mice, men, and determined directors can be completely undone by something as simple as an airplane flying over the location and ruining three successive takes.

Still, a good time was had by all, especially those hanging around the director's chair as I had brought along some Zotter's chocolates for those in need of a pick-me-up. The flavors providing the pick-me-up on this day included Dark Chocolate and Green Veltliner Wine with Long Pepper, Milk Chocolate Sunflower Seeds and Rye Bread, and consensus favorite Dark Chocolate Coffee Plum with Caramelized Bacon.

Tomorrow's the big night shoot so expect my blog entry to be a little later - say, midnight-ish. Set your alarms!

The Insider: Volume 1

Posted by James under: Blogroll.

Now…

Big things are going on here at Stage 3 Media, starting with the upcoming release of Webisode 8 on Thursday. If you thought the last three were exciting, you ain’t seen nothing yet. This is certainly my favourite of all the Webisodes up to this point and I think it’ll appeal to all of you that love a little of everything in your webisodes.

But then what?

Fear not, fearless viewers. The end of one cycle means the beginning of a new one in the lives of our friends Helen, Will, Ashley and Bigfoot. We’ve got some pretty cool stuff up our sleeves and the Stage 3 coffee maker has been running on full blast, so prepare yourselves, it’s going to be big.

But what can we do in the meantime?

I’m glad you asked, because there’s a ton of stuff.

If you’re on Imeem, we have a group there you can get involved with at http://sanctuary.imeem.com/

We’re also being distributed via Vuze.com now, so go check that out when you have a second.

An online comic book is in the works for download here soon. It will feature the work of the mighty Matt Haley who some of you may know from his work with DC Comics brands like Batman and Superman Returns. The guy is a legend in some circles and the end result should be pretty damn cool.

In our continuing quest to be the most immersive and interactive experience out there, we’ll be launching a Sanctuary game for your mobile devices. Sanctuary on your cell phone, not a bad thing!

You can also expect us to be taking you behind the scenes and up close and personal as the shooting of the second cycle of Sanctuary commences. Video, interviews, you name it, we’ll take you down to the frontlines.

And then there’s a few things that I’m not allowed to tell you about yet that will blow your mind, seriously.

Never let it be said we don’t hook y’all up. It’s a very exciting time to be here, now if only if I could sink a decent putt.

But enough about my inability to golf, more details to come soon about some bigger projects which should tear the roof off this place. Then it’ll be Lagavulin for everyone.

Cheers!

James

Stargate SG-1 - FOX Stargate Hub Updated Aug 29

FOX's Stargate Hub has been updated with some more video clips, oddly enough, they're from SG-1's season nine episodes.

http://stargatehub.com/

The trailers are at the main page, immediately below the text box in the center of the page.

They are formatted in Adobe Flash Player 9.

The first clip is from "The Powers That Be."

The second clip is from a featurette with Robert C. Cooper regarding "The Village" that was built for SG1's season nine and SGA's season two.

There's also one NEW wallpaper in The Gateroom section. It's two blue Jaffa standing to the side of the SGC Stargate.

We turned off the main street and onto a back road that snaked through a heavily forested area, endlessly rising, falling, zigging and zagging - nothing but deep, dark wilderness to either side. “It’s beautiful,”remarked Larry, my driver. Hmmm. To me, it looked like an ideal place to dump a murder victim.

Eventually, we reached the end of the road - which turned out to be an even rougher trail that continued for another two miles before delivering us to an impromptu tree-lined parking area. I made the rest of the trek on foot, arriving by the water as they were setting up the first shot of the day, a “walk and talk” backlit by the rising sun. It was a beautiful scene, one of those rare instances that someone bears witness to only on those rare occasions he wakes up 5:00 a.m. and takes the 90 minute drive down to the location to watch it being shot - or, better yet, just watches it on t.v. months later.

**snippage**

No bears on set this day (the one we saw ambling across the trail on the drive back doesn’t count) but plenty of mosquitoes and the odd plane flying by to ruin a take or five. Apparently, there are cougars in the area, but they’re mainly up in the mountains and only come down when it’s dark - like, say, this Friday when we do the night shoot. Also, excitement galore and a near-disaster averted after quick action was taken to fix a tear in David Hewelett’s pants (“Them aren’t sitting pants!“I warned him.). Ah, show business!

Pics: You bet!

Win A Copy Of Stargate SG1 Season 10, Volume 1and Stargate Infinity

24th August 2007 11:47:03

Stargate fans are in for a treat on Monday 13 August as Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases two new series to add to Stargate collections. The critically-acclaimed, multi award-winning Sci-Fi adventure series Stargate SG-1, Season 10, Volume 1 and Stargate Infinity - the brand new animated action-adventure series are available to own for the first time on DVD.

Stargate Infinity follows four exceptional Air Force Academy cadets and a wrongly court-martialed Stargate veteran who must travel through the gated wormholes from one planet to the next in order to protect a mysterious alien creature from the sinister clutches of a new extraterrestrial enemy.

Stargate SG-1 Season 10 is the final adventure for the team and the last instalment in the SG1 collection. It sees the SG-1 military squad undertaking missions across the universe through the Stargates, encountering various alien creatures and cultures on their journeys as they set out on another mission to defend the earth from the unknown.

This new season is a historic one as it celebrates the 200th episode, making it the longest-running science fiction series on television, surpassing The X-Files and every series of Star Trek. Besides being the final season for Stargate SG-1, the 10th season also features the much-anticipated 200th and (final) episode, and the return of Richard Dean Anderson reprising his role as General Jack O’Neil for episode four (“The Shroud”).

It also marks the return of SG-1 favourites Carter (Amanda Tapping), Teal’c (Christopher Judge) and Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) – as well as newcomers from last season, Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder), Vala (Claudia Black), Adria (Morena Baccarin) and veteran actor, Beau Bridges who plays General Landry.

Stargate SG-1 is an action-packed sci-adventure series involving a team of U.S. Air Force soldiers and scientists who use ancient portals in space called Stargates to travel instantaneously from their Stargate Command base in the Rocky Mountains to other planets to explore, forge alliances, defuse crises, establish trade and investigate mysteries.

Stargate SG-1 has become one of the most popular and longest running science fiction shows in television history and the DVD is packed full of ‘extras’ including audio commentary, photo galleries and a Moving Menus, making it a must-buy for any Sci-Fi or Stargate fans. Further volumes in the tenth series will be released between September and December this year.

Stargate SG1 is a Twentieth Century Fox Television production and has been nominated for over 60 Sci-Fi and television awards during its run.

This new season is a historic one as it celebrates the... what number of episodes?

Michael Shanks Visits Eureka and Returns to the Stargate

by Ileane Rudolph

For those who missed Michael Shanks battling a ginormous man-eating serpent last weekend in MegaSnake, Sci Fi's latest cheese-filled movie, not to worry. The actor who played Stargate SG-1's hunky brainiac Daniel Carter for a decade is now paying a visit to the genius town Eureka on Sept. 25 (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET, Sci Fi). TVGuide.com caught the Canadian actor at the tail end of his vacation "playing dad” to his three kids, and invited him to share with us tidbits about that gig, the upcoming SG-1 DVD movies, and more.

TVGuide.com: Both you and your wife, SG-1 colleague Lexa Doig, have Eureka gigs. Hers is the week before. How did that come about?

Michael Shanks: She auditioned first. She knew the director from Andromeda — Michael Robison — so it was a bit of a shoo-in for her. She came back from a couple days' work and was raving about the experience and the cast. Then we flew off to Toronto for a vacation and while I was there, they offered me a role for the following episode. It just worked out bang-bang, in that kind of way.

**snippage**

TVGuide.com: Share some tidbits about both upcoming SG-1 movies.

Shanks: We had a way bigger budget than we ever did for the series, so the action scenes will be that much better. And the fans will definitely be happy with the way we wrap up the series in The Ark of Truth. It reintroduces our villains that we created during the last two years, and we deal with them in a very climactic way. It's a good payoff.

**snippage**

TVGuide.com: What's happening with the Rage of Angels pilot you and Judge were developing?

Shanks: We have a verbal greenlight from MGM, but we're waiting for Brad Turner, who worked with us for years on SG-1, and who's now a supervising producer on 24, to have a window of opportunity to direct. That may not be until next year.

TVGuide.com: So which angels do you play?

Shanks: He's Gabriel, the archangel, and I will be playing Lucifer.

TVGuide.com: Lucifer. That's juicy. How do you prep for that evildoer?

Shanks: You know, that's the $10,000 question. I think Lucifer is just a guy with daddy issues.

Use our Online Video Guide to cue up lots of Michael Shanks clips.

**snippage**

The last time the production shot at Widgen was way back in SG-1’s fourth season on a little episode called Scorched Earth, the very first script Paul and I wrote for the show. According to legend, one of the actors refused to come out of their trailer until the bear that was stalking the grounds had left the area. In the end, it came down to a couple of P.A.’s who saved the day by chasing away the no-doubt adorable furball. Seriously, I wonder what that conversation must’ve been like. Martin Wood: “Hey, Spencer, we need you and Tim to wrangle the extras, get the guest star a script and, oh yeah, chase away that hungry predator.” Hmmm. According to the fine print on the spray I picked up, it repels mosquitoes, ticks, and something called “chiggers” (which, if I remember correctly, are surly forest-dwelling gnomes). It doesn’t say anything about bears. In fact, it’s quite possible that bears enjoy the taste of Raid.

**snippage**

Mailbag will return…hmmm, don’t really know when. I’ll be on location for the rest of the week and while I’ll probably be able to upload my entries and some pics and, hopefully, some vids, I probably won’t be getting around to answering any questions. So, for the time being, limit your comments to effusive praise and we’ll get back to questions this weekend.

David Hewlett

This talented actor makes his directorial debut with a film he also co-wrote, called A Dog's Breakfast. In the movie, David plays Patrick, a man who takes matters to a new level when he hears of his sister's engagement to a famous lead actor in a hit sci-fi series. We get some great behind the scenes info and I enjoy David's great sense of humor. We also chat about season four of Stargate Atlantis and the addition of Amanda Tapping and Jewel State to the cast. David and I even chat about his appearence in Sanctuary. Special thanks to Brigette and Caroline from Stargate Publicity. A very special thanks to the Sci-Fi Channel. Check out the official A Dog's Breakfast website. Music by Victor Stellar called Space.

Well, that’s it. I’m heading back to my reading. Oh, and those set pics I mentioned I was sitting on a while back. Check ‘em out -

Today’s Q&A -

Jen Kirk writes: “Second, what type of files does your cam create?”

Answer: Problem solved. Rather than film in HD, I’ll switch to the lower quality Standard Def which has proven much easier to transfer and upload. I’ll give it my first official test tomorrow.

Sanura writes: “ If Stargate ever finishes for good (PTB and ratings and heaven forbid), would you be allowed/inclined to read any fanfiction?”

Answer: If and when Stargate ends, I believe I’ll be so Stargated out that the last thing I’ll want to check out is anything Stargate related.

Rac76 writes: “I must have missed something, but who is Evil?”

Answer: Evil, aka Kenny Gibbs, is our props master.

Wingwyrm writes: “I can't seem to find a single episode with Ra's eye as a tattoo. Either I'm missing something or Ra had few to none warriors.”

Answer: My take has always been that Ra’s Jaffa were so fiercely loyal that they perished in battle rather than being taken alive and given the opportunity to switch their allegiance.

Reponses: 1) Non. Lulu est un bouldogue francais, mais Jelly, Maximus, et Bubba sont des pugs. 2) Non. 3) ? 4) Non.

MrsB108 writes: “1)Will Rodney have continuing moments of selflessness this season, thoughtfully putting others before himself? 2)Can we expect some interesting interactions between Keller and Ronon? 3)Can we expect big storyline changes when Season Five gets picked up?”

Answer: 1) Yup. One particularly memorable moment from the first half of season four comes to mind. 2) Yup. Some particularly memorable scenes from the second half of season four come to mind. 3) We’ve set up something BIG for the end of this season that should make for a very exciting fifth season.

Jewel Staite

Jennifer Keller is the newest member of the Atlantis expedition, taking over the position of Chief of Medicine. Quietly confident, Dr. Keller must quickly learn how to fit in to the strange and exciting world of Atlantis, and has her medical skills and courage tested early on.

Best known for her role as "Kaylee," the sweet, happy and sensual farm girl-turned-ship's mechanic on the critically-acclaimed sci-fi series Firefly, Jewel Staite is the newest addition to the Stargate universe.

Already a veteran actress at a mere 25-years-old, Staite began her career at the age of nine. Finding success early on, she earned both Gemini (Canadian Emmy) and Canadian Television Film and Showcase Award nominations for her work on the Disney Channel's Flash Forward with Ben Foster. While honing her craft at The Vancouver Youth Theatre, Staite landed numerous high profile television projects, including roles on Fox Family's Higher Ground with Hayden Christensen, a recurring role on the highly-praised FOX series Wonderfalls, NBC's Just Deal and Nickelodeon's Space Cases.

She made guest appearances on Showtime's Dead Like Me opposite Ellen Muth and
Rebecca Gayheart, UPN's Seven Days with Jonathan LaPaglia, FOX's The X-Files opposite David Duchovny, and CBC's The Odyssey and Da Vinci's Inquest, as well as Disney's Honey I Shrunk the Kids with Peter Scolari and Hillary Tuck. More recently, she starred opposite James Brolin and Natasha Henstridge in Lifetime's Widow on the Hill, and delivered a memorable performance in the pilot for Showtime's Huff,
starring Hank Azaria, Blythe Danner and Oliver Platt.

Staite made her feature film debut in 2005 in Universal Pictures' Serenity, Joss Whedon's big screen adaptation of the television series Firefly. She recently completed filming the lead role in the feature film The Tribe, which depicts the story of five young adults shipwrecked on a deserted island off the coast of Latin America where they encounter a lost tribe of savages. In the thriller, Staite portrays "Liz," one of the young adults who is very vulnerable to her surroundings.

Directed by first-timer Jorg Ihle, the film is being produced by Mo Ramchandani with Jo Bamford executive producing. The picture was shot in Costa Rica by Avatar Entertainment Group and was recently acquired by AfterDark Films for distribution through Lions Gate Films.

Staite currently resides in Vancouver, BC.

On the work front: shooting continues on the big team-up eppy, finished the polish on Harmony, almost finished my producer's cut of Kindred I as I await the completion of the Previously On sequence, an exhausted Martin completed his latest (and last) rewrite of Trio, read the first draft of Outcast, and watched the episode with the engagement scene (I have a feeling the fans will love it).

Today’s Q&A -

Teyilia writes: “Since the finale is being written at this time yes? when does actual filming for it start/end?”

Answers: Yes and end of September.

Flying Fig writes: “I know what a director's cut is (for DVDs, etc.) but what is a producer's cut?”

Answer: At the end of the day, the producer’s cut is the finished version.

ChevronSeven writes: “What exactly goes into polishing a script?”

Answer: Depends on the script notes.

Jill_Ion writes: “Are you sure all of the aliens on Stargate are fake?”

Answer: All but one.

Scifan writes: “ Maybe for season 5, you can have a story contest.”

Answer: Sorry. The production has nothing to do with organizing contests. That would be SciFi and MGM’s area of expertise.

Anonymous #1 writes: “Also, did you know Netflix is already way ahead of you and the team on the seasons of SGA?”

Answer: Parallel universes? Really? Cool!

[It's true! I was over at Netflix today, and you can "save" Stargate Atlantis Seasons 4 AND 5 to your Queue! I love it -- the power of positive thinking! - Morjana]

Anonymous #2 writes: “If Atlantis gets picked up for a season 5, when would you start writing for it?”

Answer: Hopefully well be spinning stories in November.

Zabadoo writes: “1.)I was in the process of writing a script to put in my portfolio to send with my college applications, and my computer crashed and it got deleted. (…) Has that ever happened to you, if so, any suggestions that can help to get it going again? 2) I heard there is a continuation to the Gero/McKay episodes... 3).)Should we expect any dark twists in Sheppard's backstory? Like is there a reason he hasn't told anyone much of who he was before? 4.)The episodes that Paul McGillion is in, is it going to be a completely different character from what we've seen before?”

Answers: 1) Let anger and desperation be your muse. 2) Gero/McKay episodes? 3) Don’t know what you mean by “dark”. 4) No, it’ll be the guy we knew.

Pattirose4 writes: “Any chance of casting Peter Wingfield in an upcoming role?”

Answer: He already played Tanith on SG-1 and was killed off in season 5.

Good, Bad, Ugly Dogs and Wanda

Written by dgeek

Thursday, 23 August 2007

Had the pleasure of watching The Good, the Bad and the Ugly the other night. What a treat! If you want to see why Clint Eastwood is a star and where Tarantino gets most of his genius from then Sergio Leone is the man to watch. This movie is phenomenal! I've seen it before in bits and pieces, but sitting down and watching the thing properly is an awe-inspiring experience...

**snippage**

Almost half way through the "Design of the Dead" script. It's going to need a fair bit of work to get it out of "writer's draft" (which translates as the "I'm not showing nobody" pass!) but I'm really looking forward to pushing ahead with that! The next two Stargate Atlantis episodes "Harmony" & "Trio" are really McKay heavy so I doubt I'm going to have much time to do more than just learn lines and sleep, but even with hiatus, DVD releases and babies fast approaching I'm still very eager to get back behind the camera!

September the 18th is the DVD release (in North America) for A Dog's Breakfast. Jane and Fox have been great about getting me out there for publicity and such, and we're really hoping that the film is well received. Big shout-out to the Dragon Con attendees:

http://www.dragoncon.org/

keep an eye out for the "Rabid Breakfast Squirrels" who are sure to be pestering the masses about our puppy's DVD arrival! Thanks SO much for all that marketing muscle, now is the perfect time to be flexing! So, please make sure you rate, review and recommend A Dog's Breakfast anywhere you can online and please be sure write about and link to us whenever you can in all your blog/facebook/Myspace pages... and of course buy it for everyone you've ever met as Christmas presents ;-) Sorry we can't be in Atlanta with you...I'll have to get it on the schedule for '08...perhaps with the sproglett in tow? And please be sure to post some pictures for us poor souls who won't be able to come play with the dragons.

All the best!

American Life TV buys four sci-fi series

Net nabs Irwin Allen-produced shows from 1960s

By JOHN DEMPSEY

'Lost in Space' is set to air on American Life TV network this fall.

American Life TV, the network aimed at retiring baby boomers, has raided the vaults of Twentieth TV to buy four sci-fi series from the 1960s produced by Irwin Allen: "Lost in Space," "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea," "The Time Tunnel" and "Land of the Giants."

The Allen series will take over American Life's schedule Thursday night; the network will stack them, starting at 8 p.m. Sept. 6.

"Voyage," based on Allen's 1961 theatrical, is his longest-running series (1964-68). "Lost in Space" (1965-68), was remade as a theatrical by New Line in 1998, seven years after Allen died.

Smallscreen Reviews

Review: Sci Fi's 'Mega Snake' a slithery Saturday night chiller

"Mega Snake" premieres Saturday, August 25 @ 9 PM ET/PT, on Sci Fi.

By April MacIntyre Aug 22, 2007, 19:54 GMT

The Sci Fi Channel has brought the chill and the thrill back to Saturday night, family friendly scary fare that harkens the days of Saturday night Chiller Theater or Tales from the Crypt (a PG-13 version).

“Mega Snake” is Sci Fi’s Saturday night original movie featuring a special appearance by “Feedback” (a.k.a. Matthew Atherton), last year’s winner on the hit Sci Fi original series “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” and stars Michael Shanks, of Stargate SG-1 fame.

Producer Boaz Davidson conjured up an interesting southern gothic yarn of two brothers and their parents, Pentecostal snake handlers in the Tennessee hills, and a crisis of faith moment during a snake handling service that renders the stricken father left to die in front of his family.

Cut to twenty years later, and the brothers are still at loggerheads.

**snippage**

Notable is the exceptional camera work of cinematographer Emil Topuzov and director Tibor Takács, and the beautiful Bulgarian countryside that the location manager scouted that does a good job mimicking the verdant American southeast.

Popcorn fun for the family, it will be too much scary slithery action for smaller kids, and people truly afraid of snakes should just wait for "Flash Gordon" or "Stargate: Atlantis."

Stargate SG-1 - Dreamwatch: Christopher judges Stargate

Christopher judges Stargate

Christopher Judge has played the heroic Jaffa warrior Teal’c on Stargate SG:1 since the pilot episode in 1997. The actor chats to Bryan Cairns about the Season 10 finale, his on-set pranking and the possibility of Teal’c popping up on Stargate Atlantis.

What are your thoughts on the Stargate SG-1 series finale?

It was a great way to end the series. It boils down to the fact that it was a lot of fun to shoot that episode. So much of the collage scenes were just us screwing around. When there were cuts of us laughing, it’s real. The one they used of us all bursting out laughing, we were all talking about the new sexual phrases that they have because of the porn industry!

Aside from Turner's association, Judge said several times that another key selling point for the project is the participation of Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1's Dr. Daniel Jackson) as Lucifer. “We’re walking into a network with two guys from the longest running scifi show in history whose show is still making product,” he pointed out.

According to Judge, SG-1 still has several more seasons to air in some of those aforementioned 140 countries, "But now,” he said, “we’re bringing in a new product with two actors that already have recognition in those countries, so our only burden is to be good.”

**snippage**

Judge’s knows what he wants and he's clear about his approach - it’s Touched by An Angel Meets 300. “We're going to recreate the war of the heavens and it will probably be one of the bloodiest battles that's ever been shown on television. I thought it needed to be shot very much the way 300 was shot,” said Judge, although he acknowledged that the undertaking is ambitious. “That's never been attempted on TV. The perception is: it's too costly, too time consuming.”

Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge look back on 10 thrilling years of Stargate SG-1

By Melissa Perenson

After a decade's worth of episodes, Stargate SG-1 concluded its televised run while it was still at the top of its creative game. The series had morphed over the years from a cable TV vehicle for actor Richard Dean Anderson to a standard bearer for science fiction.

The show may have concluded its 10th season this summer, but the series won't be gone completely: Next year, two direct-to-DVD movies are due out—Stargate: The Ark of Truth (now scheduled for spring 2008) and Stargate: Continuum (fall 2008)—with more movies a strong possibility.

On set, in the shadow of the Stargate itself, original cast members Michael Shanks (archaeologist Daniel Jackson), Christopher Judge (Jaffa warrior Teal'c) and Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col. Samantha Carter) gathered one more time to take a moment and reflect on the series' past, present and future.

**snippage**

Did you think the timing was right to end Stargate SG-1?

Tapping: That's a hard question. In some ways, yes, I do, 'cause 10 years is a long time and I think the fact that it didn't end succinctly, that we've got these movies to carry on ... The first movie is a definite wrap-up of season 10 and all of the Ori storylines, so we sort of finish that storyline out. And now the movies can be stand-alone. It was weird for us, because every year we thought we were going to be canceled, and then they kept bringing us back. So this year I had another year on my contract, so I was like, "Oh, well, for sure it's coming back for another season," and then we all individually got called into Rob Cooper's office, where he said, "The show has been canceled." Like we all knew we'd hear those words one day; you have to, it's inevitable. We'd had a decade-long run, but suddenly to hear those words, it was like, "What? Canceled, SG-1 in the same sentence? Impossible." But now that we're just doing the movies, it does make sense. We're having a lot of fun doing them, and I think, yeah, in some ways [the series] ran its course. Ten years is a good run.

**snippage**

How has the chemistry among the titular tight-knit elite unit known as SG-1 helped maintain interest in the series?

Shanks: The characters are very different people from very different backgrounds that seem to find some sort of cohesion and friendship within a very odd mix of people. I think people really enjoyed the camaraderie and the friendship aspects that we managed to find, away from the page. And I think that is a big component of the success of the show. We still have a lot of fun off-camera. That translates on-camera, on-screen as well. That we are good friends and mock the hell out of each other and still get along after 10 years.

**snippage**

Christopher Judge, Stargate SG-1, as a movie versus a television series: Could you tell the difference as an actor?

Judge: The biggest adjustment is the much slower pace. Because when you get used to working at a certain pace, working slow affects everything. It's much harder to not eat, it's much harder to ... In TV, you have enough time to shoot a master, some coverage, either you get it or you don't get it, and you move on. In this format, you can stay there till you get it. Especially for some of our stuff, when we had emotional stuff to do, to have to do it that many more times is very difficult. And that's all due to the lessening of the time constraints, the lessening of the money constraints.

The great thing about switching to a different format is that it's so different from the day-to-day grind of doing the series. And we've all had different time off, and it's not the rush-rush-rush series pace. Let's face it, we've been doing this for—this is our 11th year; none of us are spring chickens anymore. In fact, I don't think any of us were spring chickens when we started.

the_matt writes "During ComicCon I got to talk with Ron Martin, the Visual FXs Producer for the new series “Sanctuary”.

Sanctuary is an ongoing online sci-fi show starring Stargate Sg1’s Amanda Tapping. This production started as an independent group that wanted to try and find a way to change the face of movies by not having to use the huge studios. They realized they had a group of talented individuals that could pull various resources together to create a new innovative project and thus “Sanctuary” was born.

Kristen Bell is one of the Heroes

It's casting drama times two! Heroes casting news is the Paris Hilton of TV news, you just can't go three days without hearing about it. If you haven't heard about it, you must not come to this website often.

Just last week, we heard that our favorite superpower drama was adding a little old school flair with some new school brattitude. Forgive me for saying brattitude.

It seems that Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars fame, who stirred up her own drama when rumors said she was going to join Lost and again when she decided against it, will be the newest edition to the Heroes cast -- which has now been recognized as its own country.

Stargate's Chris Judge, 24's Brad Turner Partner for Rage of Angels

Posted by Mary McNamara on August 18, 2007

Stargate SG-1 co-star Christopher Judge has teamed up with the Emmy-winning producer/director of "24," Brad Turner, to develop Rage of Angels, a drama that tracks the earthly adventures of the angel Gabriel and his nemesis Lucifer. MGM, the studio that wholly owns the Stargate franchise, is behind the two-hour, back door pilot

Stateside, Judge enjoys a cult following after ten seasons on SG-1 as Teal'c, the alien warrior and leader of his people, the Jaffa. But overseas, it’s a different story altogether. Chatting at a table adjacent to the roof top pool of Hotel Solamar in San Diego, Judge circled gingerly around the subject of his worldwide popularity.

"The fans are quite zealous about their support of Stargate," he said, "you just don't realize. Vancouver is removed from the scene. People there are so respectful of space and privacy...." Then he clarified diplomatically, "I think it's great that people are enamored of the show."

MS: Could you tell us what your experience has been like so far since joining the Atlantis cast?

JS: Its been really good. I feel a lot like the new kid. Everyone has been really nice and accommodating... David Hewlett has been teasing me since the beginning, it reminded me a lot of Nathan (Fillion) teasing me on the Firefly set.

MS: Any favorite moments since joining the show?

JS: I remember being interviewed for this part and they gave me this monstrous paragraph of technobable to read and I just messed it all up and I said "I'm a mechanic not a doctor" and that kinda broke the ice and made everyone laugh. Also "Missing" is my favorite episode so far. You get to learn a lot about Dr Keller early on and there is some nice character development.

Stargate Atlantis - Joseph Mallozzi's Blog Update Aug 16

From Joseph Mallozzi's blog updated August 17, 2007:

http://josephmallozzi.blogspot.com/2007/08/august-16-2007.html

(Please follow the link for the complete blog update. There are some terrific photos of Jason and CJ sparring with sticks, a lovely photo with Paul McGillion and gang, Joe and his guitar (sans dog this time) and more...)

With my script work behind me for the show’s fourth season and my correspondence with various email scammers reasonably up-to-date, I headed over to Terminal City today to see how the latest episode on deck was coming along. Director Martin Wood, very excited about the past two days’ filming, tried to prepare me for the upcoming sequence. Did I want earplugs? I passed, perhaps a little too quickly. No time for me to reconsider though as Martin yelled “Action!”. The ensuing few seconds went something like this: “Gunfire! Gunfire!” then “Hits!” then “Ronon blasts!” then “Explosion!”. By the time Martin yelled “Cut!” and then “Incroyable!” the set was suffused in a drifting opaque cloud of dust and God-knows-what. I stepped outside to clear my lungs but, by the time I returned, they had already packed up and moved on.

Feeling very much like the soon-to-doomed victim in some industrial horror flick, I crept through the eerie, dimly lit corridors, following the sound of distant clatter and far-off whispers until I finally found Martin and co. running through the next shot with Jason, David, and Paul. As I tried to figure out why my camera had suddenly taken to snapping pics of its own accord, David and Paul came over to discuss a fabulous new series David was enjoying: Jekyll. It was while we were chatting that Paul spotted Carol Appleby giving two contest winners the guided tour. “I’m going to say hello,”he said, and excused himself to go over and introduce himself. David followed and happily fell into conversation with them. As I tried to figure out why my camera was suddenly not snapping pics no matter how many times I pressed down on the little silver button, Carol walked the contest winners over and introduced me. I’m more than happy to chat with on-set visitors but rarely go over and say hi because, let’s face it, I’m the writer/producer and not the guy who played Peg Leg Dancing Jaffa in the episode Serpent’s Hat. Surprisingly, however, they knew who I was and even admitted to being avid readers of my blog. Well, having tinkered with my camera to the point where it would finally snap pics - after a lengthy three full second delay - I took a snap of the happy contest winners for today’s entry.

It was dangerously close to lunch time and while I would have loved to stick around and watch the scene being shot (they were delayed by the clean-up of the window taken out by an overly-enthusiastic Jason during rehearsal), I needed to get back to the office or risk Alex Levine laying claim to my barbecue chicken salad. Of course by the time I got outside, I happened across a practice sparring session being serenaded by a clearly-down-on-his-luck street musician and had to snap some more pics.

Thankfully, I made it back in time to both save my barbecue chicken salad and get the lowdown on…Ah, I’ll save it for another entry.

Those lotsa pics: Pretty much what I talked about.

P.S. To be fair, I’m dedicating this blog entry to everyone.

Anonymous #3 writes: “Teyla's only getting 'character development' because Rachel's pregnant.”

Answer: Respectfully, dipstick, we already had an arc planned for the Teyla character and simply folded the pregnancy into said arc. Thanks for playing.

Les Fez writes: “1. Will Carter be going off world at all in s4 this year? 2. If so, will it be with Sheppards team? 3. How many episodes are the Wraith in this year, as they didn't make many appearances in s3?”

Answers: 1. Yes. 2. Kind of. 3. I won’t give you a specific number, but let’s just say that the wraith will play key roles in a number of major story arcs in season four.

Jeremsg1 writes: “In second half of season 4 (13 to 17), there are epsiodes stand alones (like season 3), or episodes with continuity? (like season 1)”

Answer: Both.

Ploker writes: “When was the last time you visited "The How Come Room"?”

Answer: First, allow me to visit the “What Are You Talking About Room”.

Scifi Lemon writes: “How is Midway different than Pegasus Project? Or is it basically going to be a rehash of PP?”

Answer: Did you just happen to pick these two episodes are random? I don’t see the connection.

Copernicus writes: “Do you feel there is there a certain irony to the expedition's lead diplomat switching to a recurring role when the expedition reaches a crossroads where diplomatic skills are suddenly at a premium?”

Answer: Not at all. In fact, with all of the mounting dangers the expedition has faced in the Pegasus Galaxy, the question one should ask is not “Why is the military getting more involved?” but “What took it so long?”

Jeremsg1 writes: “1)There is a funny episode in the second half of season four? Like Duet for exemple. 2)Within sight of the spoiler, season four seems to be the best, and the darkest of all seasons. Do you think that?”

Answer: Yes and yes.

LesFez writes: “Is there ANY episodes this year that have been dissapointing to you guys so far?”

Answer: I can honestly say that, so far, all of the episodes have been very strong.

O1 writes: “Can you give us a hint about outcast and whether it is going to be an action episode, a character driven episode or an angsty episode?”

Answer: Hopefully, all of the above.
