Supernatural star visits, buys undies

June 21, 2008 - 3:11PM

Supernatural pin-up boy Jared Padalecki is feeling a little snug in the pants.

The 25-year-old Hollywood actor arrived eight hours late in the country without his bags which had been misplaced en route, along with all of his clothes.

As a result his first stop when he arrived in Sydney was to pick up some new underpants, but for a guy who spends most of his time battling the paranormal on the Network Ten hit show Supernatural as Sam Winchester, buying grundies proved quite a challenge.

"I had to go buy clean underwear with the crazy Australian sizes that I didn't understand," he told AAP in Sydney.

"Sixteen? 18? I have no idea what size I am - we do small, medium and large.

"They're far too small - they're like a thong. It's embarrassing."

He is one of many stars who have turned up in Sydney to greet fans at the Supanova Expo, including Jewel Staite from Firefly and Stargate: Atlantis, Kandyse McClure from Battlestar Galactica, and the stars of Gladiators and Heroes.

The Expo, which runs all weekend at Sydney Olympic Park, celebrates all things imaginary from Star Wars to Superman, Halo to Harry Potter and Transformers to Tomb Raider.

Stargate: Continuum / Stargate Atlantis - San Diego Comic Con 2008 Update

June 20, 2008: Comic Con update, dinner at Fuel, and yet another chunky mailbag

No official word on this year's Comic Con line-up yet, but I hear that there will be both a Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: Atlantis panel. The former should include writer-executive producer Brad Wright, director Martin Wood, and Michael Shanks, Chris Judge, Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder and, if the rumors are true, one Richard Dean Anderson. The latter will be moderated by writer-executive producer Martin Gero and should include Jewel Staite, Bob Picardo, and, in all probability, Joe Flanigan. I, alas, will miss out on this year's festivities and am, of course, bummed because it means I'll have to come up with something else to blog about that weekend.

Some Idle Chatter With "The Ed"

Thursday, June 19, 2008 16:52

So Edward James Olmos and I were talking on the phone the other day. Really, how many times will I get to say that in my life?!

Okay, anyone who watches HypaSpace religiously (and if you don't then SHAME ON YOU) knows that we've had exclusive interviews each week with the cast of Battlestar Galactica. True, they've been phoners but I emphasize the word "exclusive"!

Every week since the beginning of season four, we've chatted with which ever BSG cast member was featured prominently in that week's show. We've had James Callis, Jamie Bamber, and Grace Park just to name a few.

This week EJO gave us a ringy-ding, which is just insanely cool to me. That said, I do try to maintain a certain amount of professional decorum, basically attempting not to sound like a gushing twelve year-old girl. I was making mental notes as Edward commented on last week's episode, "Revelations", thinking about what a great clip he was giving us and how well it would work for this week's HypaSpace. As he spoke, however, voices coming from the background on his end of the line were getting louder and louder. So much so, the camera person grabbed my attention.

**snippage**

And now to add to the excitement, guess who's sitting in our office right now? The one and only Nicki Clyne, who, I must say, is also awesome! She's getting ready to host this week's edition of HypaSpace, airing Friday at 7pm. Immediately following that is Fandom Forum: Battlestar Galactica at 7:30, and like I said before, if you miss it, SHAME ON YOU!

Upcoming TV, eh? Blogtalkradio show: Directors David Winning and Martin Wood

Posted by: Diane in Blood Ties, Podcast, Sanctuary

This Sunday is another TV, eh? show on Blogtalkradio, and it’s a Banff World Television Festival director extravaganza. First up is director David Winning, who has directed numerous television and film projects on both sides of the border. Call in at 646-200-4063, 11 am Pacific/2 pm Eastern, to talk about his adventures on shows such as Blood Ties, Andromeda, Earth: Final Conflict, Dinotopia, Dinosapien, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Sweet Valley High, and many more [including Stargate Atlantis 'Childhood's End'].

Following that live discussion, I’ll play an excerpt of the interview I did with executive producer and director Martin Wood of Sanctuary, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. It includes material that didn’t make it into my article, such as more on Sanctuary’s innovative filming process and a solid answer to the elusive question I’ve been asked more than once: Why is Vancouver such a hotbed of science fiction filming?

'Battlestar Galactica' President Mary McDonnell Talks Laura Roslin, Lee, Adama and More

By Korbi Ghosh

June 16, 11:48 AM

After seeing Battlestar Galactica's epic mid-season finale last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mary McDonnell (pictured left) to discuss her character's presidency, her relationships and how she, as an actor, sees the overall story. She also gave up a tease or two about what we can expect when the show returns to finish its run. Read on...

A brief excerpt:

**snippage**

One of my favorite moments was the scene between you and Jamie Bamber, during which Laura gives Lee her approval. The two have butted heads all season, but now, Laura seems to appreciate his abilities as a leader.

Well, I think she's known since the beginning. If you look back, there's a scene on Colonial One, where she recognizes that he's the one. All along, in her mind she's been thinking about how to keep an eye on him and gage if he's prepared [for the presidency]. So even in his opposition to her, she gets it. She just wants him out of the way so she can finish her agenda. But there's a part of her that's [proud of him]. That's her subtext, anyway. We don't necessarily talk about it. But that's why we had that moment [in the mid-season finale], because the discussion behind-the-scenes was sort of like this. [Executive producer] Ron Moore always knew how Laura and I, Mary, saw Lee. And the writing staff, they started tweaking [Lee and Laura's relationship] very subtly in this episode. But to play the antagonism between them has been really cool, because you know she still goes home and says, yeah, he's the one. He's got all the stuff, the sizzle and the drive and he can take it the next step. That's what she's concerned about.
