Sanctuary for All
the_matt writes "During ComicCon I got to talk with Ron Martin, the Visual FXs Producer for the new series “Sanctuary”.
Sanctuary is an ongoing online sci-fi show starring Stargate Sg1’s Amanda Tapping. This production started as an independent group that wanted to try and find a way to change the face of movies by not having to use the huge studios. They realized they had a group of talented individuals that could pull various resources together to create a new innovative project and thus “Sanctuary” was born.

Interview with Firefly and Stargate's Jewel Staite
the_matt writes "Jewel Staite, who is best known as Kaylee from the TV show Firefly, has just signed on to Stargate Atlantis for Season 4 and will be playing Dr. Keller. I got to talk with her about her new character on the show as well as asking some questions about her role on Firefly.
MS: Could you tell us what your experience has been like so far since joining the Atlantis cast?
JS: Its been really good. I feel a lot like the new kid. Everyone has been really nice and accommodating... David Hewlett has been teasing me since the beginning, it reminded me a lot of Nathan (Fillion) teasing me on the Firefly set.

MS: Any favorite moments since joining the show?
JS: I remember being interviewed for this part and they gave me this monstrous paragraph of technobable to read and I just messed it all up and I said "I'm a mechanic not a doctor" and that kinda broke the ice and made everyone laugh. Also "Missing" is my favorite episode so far. You get to learn a lot about Dr Keller early on and there is some nice character development.

DH: I think the more sarcastic I can be the better. It's interesting. This season is a big change for us. All of a sudden you have certain characters interacting that you didn't have before. McKay is in this wonderful situation; he's interacting with his girlfriend, and Samantha Carter and the new Doctor, played by Jewel Staite. He's really in his element right now. It's neat. It's really playing with all the character stuff we had previously set up and really breaking it down and changing things this year.

Stargate Atlantis returns to the SciFi Channel this September [September 28 at a NEW time - 10pm] and David's new film A Dog's Breakfast is now available on iTunes.

Tapping discusses SG-1 movies

The first two in what the studio hopes to be a series of direct-to-DVD Stargate SG-1 movies represent a big change from the week-to-week television series, actress Amanda Tapping told ComicsOnline.com in a recent interview. Tapping plays Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter in the films.
Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum were filmed in Vancouver this past spring, and will be released in 2008.
Tapping said that the movies -- which carried production budgets of $7 million each -- feel like major motion pictures. "The shooting is completely different," she said. "We are taking a lot longer to get the shots we want. The sets are bigger and the scopes are bigger. When you are sitting in an F-15, waiting to do these flying sequences and you have a whole battalion of Air Force pilots behind you, you realize this is just huge. When a nuclear submarine is coming up through the ice and your camera is on it, you realize 'THIS IS HUGE.'"
