Stargate Atlantis / SG1 - GateWorld: Andy Mikita Audio Interview Part 2

At GateWorld:

PICTURE MOVER

GateWorld talks with Andy Mikita

In the second half of GateWorld's interview with Andy Mikita, we focus on the director's episodes from the fifth season, including "The Daedalus Variations," "The Shrine" and "Enemy at the Gate." We talk about the challenges of shooting out-of-doors, the character of the Stargate team, and the ongoing quality of the franchise!

Part Two of GateWorld's interview with Andy runs over 20 minutes. Listen online at your leisure, download it to your MP3 player, or subscribe now to the iTunes podcast. The interview is also transcribed [at the link above]!

View Part One here!

A brief excerpt:

GW: You directed the finale for the show. What can you tell us about how you directed that differently or how you approached that from while it was in production?
AM: First of all I was thrilled to be given the opportunity. It was pretty cool to be given the assignment of the final episode. I was very honored. When I read the script I didn't know what to expect, quite frankly. I didn't know if it was going to be the tongue-in-cheek like the SG-1 milestone episodes were. I didn't think it was going to be but I wasn't quite sure.

I was pleasantly surprised, I have to say, that it was a good, classic team episode that had a lot of large components to it. We had Amanda Tapping back on the show which was fantastic. Colin Cunningham was back. Great having those guys, obviously.

It was a big-scale show which was really cool. That was what I was hoping that it would be. Mind you, at the same time Rob [Cooper] was shooting another huge-scale show with "Vegas" and there was some overlapping going on. There was a little bit of sharing of the resources, as it were, on everybody's part.

Again that was part and parcel of the whole year where we were shooting multiple shows. That continued right through to the end. Not that attention was diverted from it but that was something that we had to be conscious of. We were still dealing with two very, very big episodes to finish the year and we had to pay attention to each of them equally. But it was a fantastic experience.

It was a wonderful, bittersweet episode for me to be a part of, obviously. We were saying our goodbyes in the middle of it all when David was wrapped for the season and when Rachel and Jason -- everyone was wrapped out at a different time. We were having these big goodbyes throughout the course of shooting.

Of course we all knew the show was cancelled. There was that feeling of not throwing in the towel, I won't say that, because we'd already come to terms that it's all over now anyway.

Stargate Atlantis - MGM Stargate: A Hero Returns! - Maj. Paul Davis

At MGM Stargate:

(Please follow the link for the complete interview.)

A Hero Returns!

January 12, 2009 (Episodes)

After a few years of mysterious absence, ‘Enemy At The Gate’ sees the surprise return of a much-loved character. Actor Colin Cunningham discusses the reappearance of Major Paul Davis.

A brief excerpt:

... Then, however, Cunningham got the call asking whether he’d be willing to return to the SGC once again – this time for a role in Atlantis. And this time, he’d actually have to deliver a few lines… which was easier said than done after several years of not playing the character.
“That was pretty cool,” he says. “I simply got a call to come out and play – though I will say that I was incredibly nervous. I don't know why, I honestly can't say. But I was terrified. I couldn't remember my lines, and I worked on them for days! It was a bit stressful.”

Despite the slightly tough nature of the experience, Cunningham says he’d love to see Major Davis return again, in any of the Stargate series, and that he’d always reprise the role if he was available when asked ...

DaVinci's Inquest - Video: 'Little Sister - Part 1'

Fantastic! New to HULU, season one of Canada's 'DaVinci's Inquest.' A marvelous, wonderful series, filmed in Vancouver, BC. The character of Dominic Da Vinci was based on the real-life B.C. Chief Coroner Doctor Larry Campbell, who after his tenure of coroner acted as a technical advisor on the show. A blend of CSI and Law & Order, top notch story arcs and terrific acting.

The series was nominated 56 times for awards by the Directors Guild of Canada, the Gemini Awards (the equivalent of the US Emmy), the Leo Awards (local British Columbia industry awards), Writer's Guild of Canada...and won 34 of the awards they were nominated for.

The series stars Nicholas Campbell, Donnelly Rhodes, Venus Terzo, Ian Tracey, Sarah Strange, Alex Diakun, Sarah-Jane Redmond, Gerard Plunkett, Suleka Mathew, Gwynyth Walsh, Kimberly Hawthorne, Peter Williams, Jewel Staite, Colin Cunningham, Robert Wisden, Stephen E. Miller, Alisen Down, Bill Dow, Kandyse McClure, Brian Markinson and Max Martini.

Guest stars in this episode include: Hrothgar Mathews, Mitchell Kosterman and Fulvio Cecere.

Stargate Atlantis / SG1 - GateWorld: Colin Cunningham Video Interview

At GateWorld:

(Please follow the link to view the video in its original format.)

MOMENT FOR MOMENT

GateWorld talks with Colin Cunningham

Colin Cunningham has been an SG-1 mainstay since Season Two's "A Matter of Time," playing the informative Pentagon liason to Stargate Command, Major Paul Davis.

With more than a dozen Stargate appearances under his belt, he shows no signs of stopping yet! Following our interview, GateWorld learned that Davis would be making his first appearance on Stargate Atlantis in the series finale, "Enemy at the Gate."

GateWorld finally got a chance to sit down with Colin at Gatecon 2008, where he spoke freely about his new film, "Centigrade," his years on SG-1 and his struggle to become exactly who he wants to be -- a man who lives moment for moment.

GateWorld's video interview with Colin Cunningham runs approximately 22 minutes, and requires QuickTime 7.0 or higher. The interview is also available at GateWorld Play and is transcribed at the link above.

A brief excerpt:

GW: They brought you in for "A Matter of Time", which was a great scifi episode. "Major Paul Davis from the Pentagon. Let us take General Hammond to Washington and we'll be back in five minutes." I know you've had this question asked of you so many times, "Did you have any idea the fan following of the show and what the response of this character would be?"
CC: I did, but, boy, was it underestimated. I just thought, "Oh, cool, a scifi show." I don't even know if it had been syndicated. All I knew was that they would bring people back. As an actor -- awesome. You know, if they could bring you back that's awesome. I just remember thinking, "Man, just do the best job you possibly can." Go in there and nail it as best you can, and maybe they'll bring you back. I had no idea that I'd be on the show five, six, seven years or whatever it was... and travel all over the world and meet all these people.

I had no clue, no clue. And just the community and ... oh man, seriously, it's been a life changing thing. I've really grown as a human being. You know, you meet the Make-A-Wish kids and all that kind of stuff. This isn't just a "job" or a "show," you know what I mean?

Gary Jone getting in a few zzzzsss

L.A. is a go. Paul [Mullie] and I booked our flight and hotel this afternoon. We'll be flying out Sunday afternoon and getting in a little after 6:00 p.m., which should give us plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely dinner, unwind, and prep for three glorious days of meetings. Some time between now and then, our agent would like us to run through the pitches with them, I assume to ensure we don't make any egregious errors in the delivery ...

... Hey, as promised here are some behind-the-scene snaps from one of our upcoming episodes. Who does the car belong to and how the hell does it fit into the Pegasus-bound premise of our show? Hey, good question. I can't wait to find out myself.
