Jared Padalecki - Supernatural - The Bod Squad Photo

From the June 30 - July 13th issue of the print TV Guide (US), page 32:

There's a reason Jared Padalecki dubs himself the trash compactor. The 6-foot-4 Supernatural hottie devours barbecue, ice cream, cookies and burgers in an effort to put on pounds.

"I do not at all watch what I eat, I refuse," says Padaleck, 25. "I eat a bunch of junk, and I always try to make sure I'm having enough protein -- otherwise I'll lose weight."

On a typical day, he'll wake up with a protein shake, get a brisket sandwich on his way to work and eat white-chocolate-chip-macadamia-nut cookies on set. And that's before his lunch of meat, Caesar salad, fruit and ice cream. To maintain his muscles, the once skinny, runty kid now pumps iron four to five days a week, bulking up with free weights, a bench press, pull-ups and push-ups. For cardio, he jogs outside with his two rescue dogs.

"My ideal day is: work out, play with my dogs, read and go to a steak house and have a big fat steak and wine," he says. "I really to make sure I eat and eat and eat."

Uh, yeah. We have that problem too.

SGA - Joe Flanigan - Hollywood Exclusive: Flanigan Hopes For More Character Development

Flanigan Hopes For More Character Development On 'Stargate Atlantis'

THE VIDEOLAND VIEW: The fifth season of "Stargate Atlantis" launches July 11 — with several cast changes, including a shift from starring to recurring status for Amanda Tapping, and Robert Picardo essentially taking her place as the mission leader on the Sci-Fi series. This "could be" a transitional year, agrees the show's wryly witty star, Joe Flanigan.

"I've been tempered by my experience not to make any bold statements. It's definitely been a different experience for us with the changes. The storylines seem to be a little more sophisticated." But he can't talk about them. Offers Flainigan, "I'll give you one secret: I don't die."

Flanigan does say, "I'd like to see a little more exploration of my character. They're kind of working on a couple of ideas we could possibly do. I certainly don't feel the well is dry in terms of continuing to make these characters interesting. Still, there's no doubt about it — the challenge of keeping a character dynamic through a number of seasons is a real one. In the genre of science fiction maybe less so, because you're dealing with big external threats and bizarre situations," he says.

"Luckily, we all like each other and keep each other sane, which is a major plus," he adds. "If you're going to spend this much time on a project, you'd better enjoy the people you're working with."

Stargate Atlantis - TV Guide: Season 5 Premiere Article

From the June 30 - July 13 issue of TV Guide:

STARGATE ATLANTIS

Friday 10/9C SciFi

Cliff-hanger alert: in the Season 4 finale, most of the Stargate: Atlantis gang were pinned underneath a crumbling building booby-trapped by the nefarious Wraith Michael (Connor Trinneer). While they escape in the Season 5 opener, it's not before Sheppard experiences a weird hallucination about the kidnapped Teyla. So what else can fans anticipate this season?

"We're going to hit 100 episodes, says executive producer Martin Gero, "and an unlikely love triangle [will] develop [involving] McKay, Keller and Ronon."

Expect an even bigger change for Robert Picardo's uptight Richard Woolsey, who will succeed Samantha Carter as team leader since Amanda Tapping is moving on to SciFi's Sanctuary.

There's also a treat in store for SG-1 fans when Michael Shanks' Daniel Jackson visits in the mid-season finale to help McKay solve a mystery with some "really good bad guys."

Says Gero, "It's just what the fans want to see."

Should be out of this world.

Gillian Anderson: Reopening the X-Files

Gillian Anderson is best known for playing Dana Scully in the long running sci-fi series The X-Files. Anderson has now returned to the role in Chris Carter's new movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Words: David Grove

A brief excerpt:

How would you describe your relationship with David Duchovny?

We’re like siblings, and even though we’ve had our up and downs, and arguments over the years, we’ve always had a strong connection. We’ve always loved each other, and because we’ve been through so much together, working on the show, sometimes there’s a bit of hate that gets through. So it’s kind of a love-hate relationship we’ve had over the years.

Working on this film has made us both appreciate, more than we did when we were doing the series, how special these characters are, and that it would be great if we could build upon the characters and continue this thing on.

Issue Spotlight

THE ART OF IT

The Official Stargate SG1/Atlantis Magazine takes an exclusive sneak peek at the incredible visual dimension of Stargate: Continuum. In the new issue, production designer James Robbins opens his sketchbook to reveal original concept art from the movie.

Features

Cast Interviews

In this issue of The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Magazine, key cast members lift the lid on Stargate: Continuum. Ben Browder tells us why his character Cameron Mitchell isn’t getting an ass-kicking (this time!), Amanda Tapping (Sam Carter) reveals all about the Arctic adventure of a lifetime, Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) talks losing a leg and hanging with the National Guard, and the boss-man himself, Don Davis (General George Hammond), tells us about playing the character that changed his career.

Deep Freeze Director – Martin Wood

Martin Wood talks submarines, big budgets, and working with a chilled out cast on Stargate: Continuum: “The first day we were up there, it was minus 56. We got off the plane and realized this is what we were up against. On the way there, we were reading “How to Survive in the Arctic.” Besides the weather, it was really logistics. It was a director, producer, and first AD kind of job where every day you have to figure out what you are going to do – who goes in the helicopter right now, and when is the submarine coming?”

Playing for Time

Time travel was first introduced to Stargate SG-1 in the episode 1969, and since then has featured regularly in the team’s adventures. These jaunts through the space-time continuum make for entertaining stories, but are they based on science fact or are they pure science fiction? In the new issue of The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Magazine, get to grips with the “grandfather paradox” and the “multi-universe theory”, and delve into the history of time travel on the shows.
