Atlantis Cast Changes Coming

The upcoming fifth season of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis will see the addition of a new regular cast member, the promotion of another and the departure of yet another, producers told SCI FI Wire last week during a visit to the show's Vancouver, Canada, production offices.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of Robert Picardo as a regular cast regular in the role of Richard Woolsey, who takes over as the new commander of the Atlantis expedition. Picardo replaces Amanda Tapping (Col. Samantha Carter), who had to bow out of the new season as a regular cast member to devote time to her forthcoming SCI FI series Sanctuary.

On The Set Of Stargate: Atlantis In Vancouver - More Impossible Pics!

After our first day on The Daedalus set of Stargate:Atlantis to chat with the stars of the show and to talk to creator Brad Wright and star Ben Browder about Stargate:Continuum, it comes as a bit of a shock that the next day was even better - walking into the gate room of Atlantis Base was something of a Sci Fi fan's dream - but it's not just the context of being there - it's the sheer physicality. It's a massive set.

More info to come on who we spoke to and just what went down - and what's to come in the Stargate universe (ahem) soon. In the meantime, here's some more up close and touchable photos from the iconic set.

From what the cast and crew have said, (and what we saw at the one and only screening of Contniuum) It looks like the wait for the release Season 4 Atlantis and Continuum in a few months will be worth it.

As will Season 5!

Scoops to come - including one about Teyla, and what kind of preparations are going into the 100th episode of Atlantis.

Whedon's Dr. Horrible Almost Done

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon told SCI FI Wire that he's just about completed Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, a nearly 40-minute online musical that he wrote and directed. The Web project stars Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion (Serenity) and Felicia Day.

"It's about a low-rent supervillain [Harris as Dr. Horrible] who's trying to get into the Evil League of Evil and defeat his nemesis, Captain Hammer [Fillion] and work up the nerve to talk to the pretty girl at the laundromat [Day]," Whedon said in an interview while promoting his upcoming Fox series Dollhouse last week in New York. "It's an idea I had a while ago, that I thought would be just right for a weird little Internet venture. I wrote it with my brothers [Zack and Jed Whedon] and my brother [Jed's] fiancée [Maurissa Tancharoen] and somehow got the best actors I know to just jump in, which was very scary for all of us."
