Edward James Olmos Talks BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Finale:

“It’s brutal what happens to us. Not many of us make it.”

August 26th, 2008

By: Melissa Girimonte

My mission for FanExpo 2008 in Toronto was simple – attend the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA [BSG] Q&A. Those fans lucky enough to get in enjoyed an hour of Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama) and Aaron Douglas (Chief Galen Tyrol) as they shared stories from behind the scenes, revealed details on both the final episodes and the upcoming film, and even hinted at who could be revealed as the final Cylon.

Olmos, in his first appearance at a North American sci-fi conference, spoke passionately about his experience on the show. He stated that BSG is “the finest dramatic show in TV history so far.” He expanded on this by explaining how the sci-fi genre allows the exploration of issues that other dramatic series will not go near. Olmos remarked that BSG has not only elevated the entire sci-fi genre, it has also elevated dramatic structure overall. He also paid tribute to the longevity of the series – that 25 years from now, there will be an even better understanding of it, much like 17th Century literature, or films like BLADE RUNNER.

Olmos tackled one fan’s question about the impending final episodes. With regard to the ending, he responded, “Emotionally, heartbreaking. I’m telling you this for a reason, because I don’t want you guys to think you’re going to go through this without getting yourself really twisted … it’s brutal what happens to us. Not many of us make it.” He described that executive producer/writer Ronald D. Moore has no mercy when it comes to telling the Galactica story. It has become quite dark, and is going to get darker. Olmos also recounted filming the episode when they arrive on Earth, only to discover it’s been nuked, saying that detail was devastating to the cast as they filmed it...

Stargate: Amanda Tapping Interview

HCC News Team - 20 August 2008 - 11:16am

Stargate: Continuum, a time-traveling spin-off from the hit TV series, recently touched down on DVD (£20) and Blu-ray (£29) in the UK courtesy of MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. To celebrate, we sat down with fan-favourite star Amanda Tapping, to talk about all things SG-1...

Do you remember where you saw the original Stargate film?
AT: "I saw it actually just before I auditioned for the series, I rented it. So I saw it at home, I didn’t go out and see it in a theatre."

**snippage**

How was it going from filming a standard episode to a feature?
AT: "In some ways it was kind of easier to wrap your head around, because when we were doing the series it was like ‘phew, it’s February, we’re going to be going at this full tilt until October,’ it’s daunting, it’s exhausting. So when you have this finite period of time to make this really big movie and take a month, it’s brilliant. It’s a great way to do it."

**snippage**

Have you noticed changes, in all your time on the show, in the audiences who have followed these adventures?
AT: "I’ve seen the demographic change, definitely, from when we first started. And [sci-fi convention] Comic Con has just gotten bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. It’s crazy, when we went last year there were the big buses, the Stargate buses. So there was a big bus for Continuum, a bus for Ark of Truth, an Atlantis bus – seeing your face on the the side of a bus you’re like ‘ohhhh’. You can’t take any of that seriously, but there is something really cool about it too."
