Wednesday - June 23, 2010

by Darren Sumner

Visit the GateWorld Podcast page for more about the show!

The freshman season of Stargate Universe is complete! In this week’s podcast, GateWorld’s Darren and David will look at the first year of SGU as a whole and discuss what we thought worked. How did the second half of the season compare to the first half? Character drama, alien threats, separation from home, communication stones, and more — it’s all on the table as we dissect Season One and decide if it lived up to our own expectations.

But first, we’ll also be talking about the news of writer-producer Robert C. Cooper’s departure from Stargate.

If you are a fan of Doctor Who, stick around after the show for a bonus discussion! Darren has picked three episodes for David to watch, and this week David will give us his newbie take on the show and whether he’s been convinced to keep watching.

Video Blog: Goa’uld Symbiote

May 4, 2010 by David Read

We’re starting off our week with a brand new video blog, this time featuring perhaps the most significant villain ever to Stargate lore — the Goa’uld! These parasitic serpents evolved on an alien world in the Milky Way, eventually taking primitive Unas as hosts and deciphering the Stargate to enter the galaxy.

Check out the little guy which may be yours this summer!

GateWorld talks with Martin Gero

It has been an exciting year for Stargate co-executive producer Martin Gero. Whether working in Vancouver on Season Five of Stargate Atlantis or promoting his recently released feature film, the entertainer has constantly been on the move, meeting nothing but success.

We recently sat down with Gero for an exclusive interview, where he talks about his favorite episodes from Season Four and the unexpected trials that came his way (from working on his new film to tackling unexpected surprises in the episode "Trio"). We discuss the new cast regulars introduced this year, the mid-season two parter (among other episodes), and the expedition's responsibility to its enemies.

GateWorld's interview with Martin Gero runs 34 minutes long. You may listen at your leisure, download it to your MP3 player, or read the transcript [at the link above]!

To enjoy more of Martin's work, don't forget to pick up the Stargate Atlantis Season Four DVD set on July 8!

A brief excerpt:

GW: Well, we're just a few weeks in production on Season Five. Any early thoughts? Anything you're particularly excited about? How are things going this year?

MG: It's a great year. This is, again, a very focused year like it was back in Season Four. We're not trying to do two TV series. We're not even trying to do a TV series and two movies. Atlantis is really the only focus. That's incredibly refreshing.

Some people were worried because there's great cost savings in doing a couple things at once, but we've trimmed some of the fat of the production. We thought, "Oh, that's going to be a problem," but actually it's allowed us to do bigger stories this year. The first few cuts that have come back, I'm very excited. I'm very excited.

Stargate Atlantis - GateWorld: NEW Audio Interview with Amanda Tapping

From GateWorld:

Journey of a Lifetime

GateWorld talks with Amanda Tapping

Of the more than 50 Stargate personnel he has wrangled to interview, GateWorld co-editor David Read stands firmly beside Amanda Tapping as his favorite. Tapping, who as played Samantha Carter for well over a decade, has been one of the most prominent supporters of the Web site since first hearing its name.

In our fifth interview with the actress, Amanda gets more personal than ever, discussing past struggles of separating work from home (her daughter Olivia being the great equalizer), and the parallels that she has drawn between herself and her alter ego through the years. We explore the fondest memories from Turleen and Minnie to Cassandra, and the challenges that Tapping has forced herself to face.

Special thanks to the many GateWorld Forum members who contributed their questions to this interview!

GateWorld's interview with Amanda is available in MP3 audio format for easy listening, and is over 28 minutes long. It is also transcribed [at the link above]. You can even download the interview to your MP3 player and take GateWorld with you!

Hewlett: Due date a family affair

Thursday - September 6, 2007 | by David Read

David Hewlett ("Dr. Rodney McKay") tells GateWorld September 18th is the DVD release of his directorial debut "A Dog's Breakfast", Season Three of Atlantis [on DVD] -- and his first child!

"It's coming out the week the baby's due," he says of his movie. "I hope both releases go well. Mars [his dog] is already looking nervous." And the baby's gender? "Not a clue. We're strangely old-fashioned that way. Everything else we're as hi-tech as we can go, but we don't want to know until we know."
