Visit the GateWorld Podcast page for more about the show!

The freshman season of Stargate Universe is complete! In this week’s podcast, GateWorld’s Darren and David will look at the first year of SGU as a whole and discuss what we thought worked. How did the second half of the season compare to the first half? Character drama, alien threats, separation from home, communication stones, and more — it’s all on the table as we dissect Season One and decide if it lived up to our own expectations.

But first, we’ll also be talking about the news of writer-producer Robert C. Cooper’s departure from Stargate.

If you are a fan of Doctor Who, stick around after the show for a bonus discussion! Darren has picked three episodes for David to watch, and this week David will give us his newbie take on the show and whether he’s been convinced to keep watching.

Robert C. Cooper departing Stargate

Robert C. Cooper, one of the Stargate franchise’s most veteran writer/producers, is moving on. Cooper will leave Stargate next month, fellow SGU executive producer Joseph Mallozzi announced on his blog.
“I’m not leaving completely, actually — just stepping back to more of a consulting role for the end of this season,” Cooper told GateWorld. “However, my credit will remain Executive Producer. We’ve already developed most of Season Two and I feel very confident leaving the show in good hands.”

Cooper’s final contribution to the stalwart franchise will be a stage panel appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, promoting the second season of Stargate Universe (now in production). He also tells GateWorld that he’ll be writing one more episode for late Season Two...

...Stay tuned to GateWorld for more exclusive comments straight from Rob Cooper on his decision to step back from the show, and just what his responsibilities will be for the remainder of Season Two’s production.

We’d like to thank Rob Cooper for his part in more than a decade of great television, and wish him Godspeed in his next endeavor!

Was the introduction of Earth’s interstellar ships a good thing or a bad thing for the Stargate franchise? In this week’s podcast Darren and David look at the history of the fleet and its impact on the way that SG-1 and Atlantis told stories — both in adding new dimensions, and in taking attention away from the gate itself as the show’s centerpiece. We have our thoughts, and we’ll also hear what listeners have to say on the topic.

But first we’ll recap the last week’s worth of Stargate news, and new additions to GateWorld! PLUS: Preview interview with Neil Jackson.

Stargate: Continuum - GateWorld: Early Look at Stargate: Continuum

From GateWorld:

http://gateworld.net/news/2008/04/early_look_at_istargate_continuu.shtml

Early Look at Stargate: Continuum

Beware of minor SPOILERS for Stargate: Continuum in the review below -- but nothing more than the info already released in MGM's summary.

A brief excerpt:

While visiting the set of Stargate Atlantis this month, GateWorld's editors were invited to attend a theatrical screening of the upcoming DVD movie Stargate: Continuum. We entered the theater with high expectations, as long-time Stargate fans who are longing for the glory days of SG-1 and waiting for something to come along and revitalize our enthusiasm for the franchise that we cover day-in and day-out.

We walked away as reborn Stargate fans.

For GateWorld owner Darren Sumner Stargate: Continuum is, simply put, the best movie or episode he has seen in years. It is easily in the top five for all 12 years of Stargate history, and he is still debating whether he may like it more than some of his all-time favorites: "Within the Serpent's Grasp" / "The Serpent's Lair," "The Fifth Race," "Jolinar's Memories" / "The Devil You Know," and "Lost City." If it is not better than these, if it is not the best Stargate since SG-1 began, Stargate: Continuum is certainly in their company.

Friday - October 26, 2007 | by Darren Sumner

The cast, crew, and fans of Stargate Atlantis let out a collective sigh of relief this week, with SCI FI Channel announcing that the show has been picked up for a fifth season (story).

But what does another year mean for the show's creative direction? Will new cast members such as Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter") stick around for another year? And does this mean that the third TV series, Stargate Universe, has been put on hold?

We went straight to executive producer (and one of Atlantis's show-runners) Joseph Mallozzi for some answers:

Beware of SPOILERS in the report below.

The first plot information has arrived at GateWorld for "Harmony," an episode set to air late in Stargate Atlantis's fourth season. Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi has implied, but not yet confirmed, that the title character and lead guest star will be played by 12-year-old actress Jodelle Ferland.

Ferland played Adria at 7 years old in the SG-1 Season Ten premiere, "Flesh and Blood." Her long list of film and television credits also includes Masters of Horror, Supernatural, Smallville, and the 2006 film "Silent Hill."
