Atlantis Focuses On Wraith

The upcoming fifth season of SCI FI Channel's original series Stargate Atlantis will focus heavily on the Wraith--with a side trip to Las Vegas to commemorate the show's 100th episode, producers told SCI FI Wire during a visit to the show's sets in Vancouver, Canada, on May 16.

Other key developments: Teyla (Rachel Luttrell) will have her baby in the fifth season. The character became pregnant last season to accomodate Luttrell's real-life pregnancy. Luttrell has given birth, so her character can follow suit. The baby is delivered on camera by....

Not everything is about the Wraith though. [Joe] Flanigan said it's his understanding that filming for the show's upcoming 100th episode will take place in Las Vegas. Though Flanigan claimed to have no more details than that, he surmised that this would probably mean the episode will have to do with the replicators.

Six episodes of Stargate Atlantis' new season are complete and filming of new episodes continues. The fifth season kicks off in July.

DST Dials Up Stargate Atlantis Series 3!

The People's Choice Award-winning Stargate Atlantis is approaching its fourth season finale just as DST is putting the finishing touches on the third assortment of action figures based on the sci-fi gem. Not only will this series see the inclusion of all-new characters, but it will also include some familiar faces to Stargate SG-1 fans!

Due in stores this fall, the third series will feature Colonel Samantha Carter in her new Atlantis-style uniform, the fan-favorite Dr. Jennifer Keller played by Firefly’s and Serenity’s Jewel Staite and one of the muscle-bound Wraith Drones. Also included in this assortment will be an all-new action figure of Lt Colonel John Sheppard sporting his all-black base attire – perfect for those top secret “black ops” missions. Our first series of Stargate Atlantis action figures was released earlier this year and will be followed by the second series featuring Dr. Rodney McKay, Teyla Emmagen and a Wraith Queen – due in stores on March 26th. By combining the six different pieces included with these two waves, fans will be able to create their own figure-sized Atlantis-style Stargate – a bonus first used for our Stargate SG-1 action figure releases.

As Stargate Atlantis stands on the threshold of its fourth season, the show's writing staff faces a new series of challenges. Atlantis's sister show is off the air; SCI FI Channel ratings are down across the board; and there are major changes in the series' cast.

GateWorld recently sat down with seasoned writer-producer Carl Binder to talk about last year, the coming year, and his feelings about where the series stands as it moves forward into the new season. In the interview, he shares his thoughts on the difficulties of losing cast members, as well as his enthusiasm for new characters joining the show. He also tells us which episodes from the early part of Season Four he likes the most so far, and which Season Three episode he thought didn't measure up.

GW: Are you excited about having Jewel Staite on the show?

CB: Incredibly excited! I could not be happier, from her first day of dailies on "First Strike." She is a total pro.

We are all huge Firefly fans here on the show. We used her once before on "Instinct" as a Wraith, and knew she was great then. So when she came in as this character, it was terrific. And then, before we start shooting, we always have the cast and producer dinner, and I was able to talk to her for a long time. [She's] just a real
sweetheart and a pro, and has been a really nice addition to the show.
