GateWorld hasn't spoken with Paul McGillion since his surprising return to Atlantis in Season Four's "The Kindred, Part 1." Since that time, the series has been canceled and a new show is in production. Needless to say there is much to discuss!

Paul updates us on his current projects, from his cameo in the new "Star Trek" movie to a developing indie film with a friend. We chart our way back through the last two and a half seasons, starting with "Sunday," all the way through to "Enemy at the Gate" (Beware minor SPOILERS for this episode!) and the fall and rebirth of Atlantis's cowardly lion.

AT: Apparently the Board of Trustees is going to invite me to become a board member for the Waterkeepers. It’s an organization that’s hugely important to me, so I’ll be doing work with them.

We finish shooting our season in July and then we’re in post-production. I’ve been offered a film that would shoot in late summer/early fall called "Water’s Edge," which I’m excited about. And then the Stargate movie is potentially happening late fall, is what I’m hearing.

GW: What do you think is in store for this character's future? Have they contacted you about Season Five yet for Atlantis?

PF: No. No, I thought maybe you guys might have some inside scoop on Barrett in Season Five. But we're really hoping that he gets back. Because I think it's always a good fit when Agent Barrett comes in and does a little bit when they come to Earth. It's good. Bring him back.

GW: Do you ever think he's perceived as, "Uh-oh, here comes Agent Barrett, what's wrong now?" Do you think he's perceived as a bad-news kind of guy?

PF: Yes and no. I mean there's times when he does have to present bad news, but I think he's a good go-to guy. I think he's a good middle man that gives information that Stargate [Command] needs. I think that's what I like about the character where he stays fairly neutral.

Being the guy that offers information and can also be involved in the activity as well. I mean you're there to support. And when you're there, you're playing a supporting role. It's good to have that neutrality about him but also engaging, of course. And I think that's what Barrett's all about. And I think he does a damn good job at it. [Laughter]

GateWorld talks with Dan Shea

Saving the galaxy on a weekly basis can be dangerous work. Sometimes you can't make it through an hour without getting a little roughed up. And for many years, one man has been either getting roughed up or been the one in charge of making sure others do it safely -- Dan Shea.

As both Richard Dean Anderson's stunt double and Sergeant "Sly" Siler on-screen, or as SG-1' stunt coordinator off-screen, Shea has been instrumental in making all the fights, explosions and other stunts both fun to watch and harmless to those performing them.

GateWorld sat down with Dan earlier this year at the Creation Entertainment Stargate convention in Vancouver -- and it's the first time we've gotten the chance to talk with him. Due to time constraints, the interview is extremely short. However, in that brief time, Dan opens up about how he got into the stunt business, what brought him into the Stargate franchise, how he wound up in front of the camera as "Siler," and more!

GW: How did you end up in front of the screen as Siler?

DS: There was just an audition and I remember, I went upstairs, and I started joking around. Brad [Wright] was in there, and Martin Wood, and I thought, "If you're trying to be funny, they'll like you and give you the part." The problem was, the guy was a computer geek, not funny. And so Greenberg gave me hell. Michael Greenberg. He said, "You fool, you have a chance to get this part. What are you doing, you blew it." And I thought I did good because they were laughing. Well, it was a serious role, so he made me go back and do it again, and spew out the techno-jargon, and I got it.

GateWorld owes a huge debt of gratitude to actor Peter Williams. He, along with writers Sonny Wareham and Daniel Stashower, brought to life a terrific cliffhanger in SG-1's Season Three episode "Jolinar's Memories," which sparked the idea of a Stargate Web site. That Web site ultimately grew into GateWorld.

Not only has Williams portrayed the serpent god Apophis off and on for the past decade in various episodes and features (most recently Stargate: Continuum), but he is also praised by some of the core cast members as being a favorite bad guy to this day. GateWorld is privileged to finally sit down with the actor for our first interview!

CUT! MAKE-UP!

GateWorld talks with Jan Newman

Stargate SG-1 make-up artist Jan Newman has been a favorite of GateWorld's editors for a number of years, but this busy butterfly has kept herself so occupied that we have never had a chance to talk with her ... until now!

GateWorld sat down and "powdered up" with the SG-1 make-up artist at this year's Gatecon convention in Vancouver, British Columbia! Originally from Australia, Newman has worked on MacGyver, all 10 seasons of SG-1, and the DVD movies Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum!

Jan takes us back to her original run-in with the make-up profession before she had a chance to go off and become a flight attendant. We discuss the origins and complexities of the Jaffa tattoo, aging members of SG-1 in various episodes, and working with the likes of Christopher Judge, Richard Dean Anderson, and the late and great Don S. Davis.

GW: Who was the most difficult to work with? In terms of like, "We need to get this done." When you were putting the make-up on or touching them back up, who would kid around the most?

JN: Who do you think?

GW: OK, Chris Judge.

JN: No!

GW: Oh, Rick!

JN: Yes! It was like trying to hit a moving target to get him ready! Richard didn't like to sit in the chair for very long. I think the longest Richard sat in the make-up chair was in "Brief Candle" when he aged. We never thought he was going to do that. He got really into it after a while.

The preparation for that -- we had pictures of his father and his grandfather. The designers who designed the make-up took some of those, aspects and some of O'Neill's physiognomy -- that's the right word -- to put it together. He sat still, I think there were three different changes in that.

Colin Cunningham has been an SG-1 mainstay since Season Two's "A Matter of Time," playing the informative Pentagon liason to Stargate Command, Major Paul Davis.

With more than a dozen Stargate appearances under his belt, he shows no signs of stopping yet! Following our interview, GateWorld learned that Davis would be making his first appearance on Stargate Atlantis in the series finale, "Enemy at the Gate."

GateWorld finally got a chance to sit down with Colin at Gatecon 2008, where he spoke freely about his new film, "Centigrade," his years on SG-1 and his struggle to become exactly who he wants to be -- a man who lives moment for moment.

GW: They brought you in for "A Matter of Time", which was a great scifi episode. "Major Paul Davis from the Pentagon. Let us take General Hammond to Washington and we'll be back in five minutes." I know you've had this question asked of you so many times, "Did you have any idea the fan following of the show and what the response of this character would be?"

CC: I did, but, boy, was it underestimated. I just thought, "Oh, cool, a scifi show." I don't even know if it had been syndicated. All I knew was that they would bring people back. As an actor -- awesome. You know, if they could bring you back that's awesome. I just remember thinking, "Man, just do the best job you possibly can." Go in there and nail it as best you can, and maybe they'll bring you back. I had no idea that I'd be on the show five, six, seven years or whatever it was... and travel all over the world and meet all these people.

I had no clue, no clue. And just the community and ... oh man, seriously, it's been a life changing thing. I've really grown as a human being. You know, you meet the Make-A-Wish kids and all that kind of stuff. This isn't just a "job" or a "show," you know what I mean?

GateWorld's interview with Michael Greenburg, one of the architects of the franchise, has been a long time coming. Co-founder of Gekko Film Corp with Richard Dean Anderson, Greenburg helped develop the short-lived television series Legend, as well as working on MacGyver, where he and Rick met and began their partnership.

We caught up with Greenburg at Gatecon 2008 in Vancouver. In this interview, Michael takes us back to the very beginning of his work in the industry from the Olympic love story The Golden Moment, through his years on MacGyver and Stargate, and back to his current life in sports. He talks about the stimulating atmosphere of SG-1 and dabbles on his upcoming 2009 TV movie, Game of Shadows.

GW: Alright. And what happened after Stargate? Where did you move onto next?

MG: After Stargate I started developing stuff on my own. I got the rights with my brother to the New York Times Bestselling book "Game of Shadows", which is about Barry Bonds, BALCO, Marion Jones and the whole steroids scandal, that sort of rocked track and field, and baseball, at a time that baseball was just coming back into popularity and financial success.

Everyone knows that this is the "steroid era" in sports, and it cast a gray cloud over everything. All the Olympics, not so much this Olympics, but of course the testing hasn't come back yet. They all get tested after the event and two weeks later we hear the bombshells.

GW: So when you look back on that experience now, the whole season that you spent there -- and you did an episode before and a few episodes after -- what stands out in your mind when you remember Stargate?

CN: It's interesting because working on Stargate, it's as cool as the show is to watch. The whole adventure of it, all the adventures that you go on, the obstacles you have to get over, the predicaments that you get caught in, the great writing, the dialogue, the different relationships. What I remember is I feel like I was on SG-1. You know what I mean?

As silly as that sounds, that's what it feels like. Because you film all those scenes you do, everything you watch on the show, you actually physically get to do. So it's like you lived it, in a weird way.
