Stargate SG-1's Ben Browder - GateWorld: Browder answers ‘Freeze Frame’ questions

Browder answers ‘Freeze Frame’ questions

Monday, May 4

GateWorld gets the exclusive lowdown from Ben Browder about his new pro-veteran film currently in development.

Shortly after GateWorld interviewed Ben Browder (“Colonel Cameron Mitchell”) at the end of 2008, we received word of a new project he is starring in. “Freeze Frame” will tell the tale of two traumatized war veterans trying to end their lives, and Browder will play a pivotal role.

The YouTube video, a precursor to the full film, has garnered some attention, and despite the film’s early stage of development we wanted to hear more from Ben about the part.

A brief excerpt:

GW: How has the YouTube viral video been received? What kind of comments have you heard?
BB: The comments that I’ve heard — and my comments are fairly limited to the people that I know — I guess surprised me. Most of the people that [I know who] watched it cried when they watched it. And if people had a negative response to it they didn’t tell me.

Those people’s opinions I value greatly were touched and moved by the piece. It was nice to know that the piece had the power and the potency that I felt when I read it. It made it to the small screen like that.

Stargate SG1/Farscape's Ben Browder - Interview on 'Freeze Frame'

At the Ben Browder Portal:

(Please follow the link for the complete interview.)

Ben talks about Freeze Frame and Other Stuff

LAScaper interviewed Ben about his new role in the upcoming movie Freeze Frame. But talking to Ben rarely results in a straight question and answer session. The topics of conversation included the nature of veterans health issues highlighted in Freeze Frame, the movie’s promotional website, Freeze Frame’s award winning writer and producer Jonas McCord, when is a blog not a blog, the idea that artistic expression may affect social change, how tuned in fans are to his projects, coaching high school pole vaulting, fear of the dentist leads to sanity in stunt work, the joys of rhyming poetry, family pets, and then back to the subject at hand.

Freeze Frame is intended to add to the centuries old conversation about taking care of the men and women that fight to protect our freedoms. “What you’re really talking about is the state of individuals who return from war. And how they cope. In my estimation it’s a human story.” One thing’s for sure when you’re talking to Ben Browder - it’s always interesting!

SCI FI PRESENTS U.S. TELEVISION PREMIERE OF TWO 'STARGATE' FILMS THIS SPRING

Published: February 5, 2009

Stargate: The Ark of Truth Airs March 27

Stargate: Continuum On April 3

NEW YORK – February 5, 2009 – Fans of the hit Stargate television franchise will rejoice this spring when SCI FI presents the U.S. premiere of the two highly successful films Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum. Beginning on Friday, March 27 at 9 PM/ET, get set for The Ark of Truth and then tune in on Friday, April 3 at 9 PM/ET for Continuum.

Continuing the legacy and thrilling journey of the popular Stargate SG-1 television series, Stargate: The Ark of Truth picks up after "Unending," the SG-1 series finale. Searching for an ancient weapon which could help them defeat the sinister Ori force, SG-1 discovers it may be in the Ori's own home galaxy, and the crew finds themselves fighting two powerful enemies. The film stars series favorites Amanda Tapping (2005 Saturn Award, Best Supporting TV Actress), Golden Globe® winner and three-time Emmy Award® winning actor Beau Bridges, Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, Christopher Judge, and Claudia Black. Robert C. Cooper serves as writer/director and co-executive producer along with Brad Wright. Both men are the co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and currently serve as executive producers on Atlantis.

Stargate: Continuum, the adrenaline-driven, action adventure film, has members of SG-1 returning to a world where their history has been dramatically altered. Continuum reunites Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'Neill, with all the series favorite crewmembers. The most northern filmed movie production in history. Stargate: Continuum features incredible visual effects, out-of-this-world battle sequences and breathtaking scenes shot on the Arctic ice. Directed by Martin Wood (Sanctuary) and written by Brad Wright, the film finds Ba'al as he travels back in time and tries to prevent the Stargate program from ever being started. The SG-1 team must somehow restore history and once again save the galaxy from oppressive domination.

Stargate SG1 - GateWorld: Video AND Audio Interview: Ben Browder

At GateWorld:

LUCKY MAN

GateWorld talks with Ben Browder

Ben Browder counts himself a lucky man. While his work has afforded him opportunities most people won't get in their lifetimes -- such as traveling to the Arctic -- Ben has found himself in a position where he can still go home every night to be with those he loves. GateWorld got the chance to sit down once again with the actor behind Colonel Cameron Mitchell to hear about what's currently going on in his world.

In addition to Stargate, Ben updates us on Going Homer, his story recently bought by the SCI FI Channel, as well as the status of the Farscape webisodes. We discuss filming in the Arctic for Continuum, his personal journey as an actor, and growing older.

GateWorld's interview with Ben runs approximately 41 minutes, and is available in video, audio, and transcript form [six pages at the link above]! The video version requires QuickTime 7.0 or higher, and is also available in Flash format at GateWorld Play.

For the audio version you can listen online at your leisure, or download it to your MP3 player.

Ben Browder Interview Photo Gallery:

A brief excerpt:

GW: You're a writer. You're not just an actor. Do you find yourself frustrated with this business? Or do you actually enjoy all the hoops that you have to go through in order to get a product on air?
BB: I couldn't say that I enjoy all the hoops. But it is what it is. You make peace with that as you go through. To be frustrated by it is silly, because you would drive yourself to despair. I don't have to be happy with it on a day-to-day basis. There are certainly days which are frustrating. But everybody has those frustrations.

It doesn't matter what job you're in. Most people don't have this incredible linear journey which is on an upward slope for their whole life. The economy does it. Life does it. It's just part of it. But I don't know that I would choose anything else.
