David Blue Interview - Stargate Magazine #31

Stargate Magazine, Nov 4th, 2009

The latest issue of Stargate Magazine features an exclusive interview with David Blue. In the following extract, the actor talks about playing the brains of the outfit in Stargate Universe, computer whiz Eli Wallace…

“Eli knows he’s smart,” explains Blue. “He’s not a genius in that he was born an Einstein, but he can figure things out and see patterns in things. One of the reasons I think he has a good sense of humor is that he can see patterns in the world and find the humor in certain things. That’s who Eli is, and because he applied his intelligence to random things, he never truly found his way. He dropped out of MIT and had a whole bunch of stuff in his life that took precedence..."

David Blue: All Across the Universe

Posted on Tuesday 03 November 2009

From vampires to fashion photographers, David Blue certainly likes to cross genres when it comes to his television credits. Now he can be seen crossing galaxies as the character of Eli Wallace on Sy-Fy’s newest incarnation of the Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe. Abbie Bernstein met up with Blue to chat about his latest role…

A brief excerpt:

Did you have any opinions about your Stargate Universe cast mates – Robert Carlyle, Lou Diamond Phillips or Ming-Na – before working with them?

Absolutely! I watched ER from Season One to the end, and Chun Li in Street Fighter – oh, my God! – so I love Ming-Na’s work. Lou Diamond Phillips – I’ve been giving him crap, because everyone remembers him as Richie Valens [in La Bamba]; the truth is, I remember him from Stand and Deliver. Robert Carlyle24: Redemption, 28 Weeks Later, The Full Monty, Trainspotting – some of my favorite movies!

So as I always tell people, it’s not like the casting sold it for me, but it was the icing around the cake. I not only get to play a good role with an amazing script that drew everyone to it, but I get to work with these people, which is like a gift.

Episode Guide

A brief excerpt from the Production section of the Episode Guide:

The EVA suits from the Destiny that appear in this episode don't just look similar to the battle suits worn by the Asgard in Atlantis's "First Contact" and "The Lost Tribe." They're a reuse of the same costumes, for a very deliberate reason that remains to be revealed.

When asked about this, consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi commented: "Well, hey, now that you mention it -- yeah, they do look remarkably similar. In fact, if I was a betting man, I'd wager that the Dark Asgard suits are a modified version of the Ancient space suit. Wonder what's going on there."

What really happened to Sanctuary's Ashley

By Kathie Huddleston
3:26 PM ON 10/30/09

Syfy's Sanctuary did it: Last Friday's episode killed off Ashley (Emilie Ullerup).

Or did it? "Nobody dies in sci-fi," creator Damian Kindler said with a laugh. "No body. Habeas corpus."

In last week's ep, "Eulogy," Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and Will (Robin Dunne) failed to find Ashley's body after she apparently gave her life to avoid killing her mom, and everyone accepted that Ashley had truly gone to that big abnormal zoo in the sky.

But why kill her off? Did Ullerup want more money? Have another job waiting in the wings? Were there personality conflicts behind the scenes? Maybe she wanted to go off to college or work for Obama?...

9/8c Syfy

If you're on a runaway spaceship with dwindling supplies, a frozen planet may sound like an oasis in the desert. But since this is Stargate Universe, you can go ahead and presume there's something wrong with said planet. (Maybe the water smells funny?) While two crewmen trek across a cold new world in search of drinkable samples, Johansen (Alaina Huffman) tries to catch an intruder on board the ship. — Michael Chant

Exclusive Interview! Diving Deeper into Stargate Universe with Producer John G. Lenic!

By Kevin Coll • October 29, 2009

So today was a particularly interesting day as I got to chat with one of the producers of SGU and longtime member of the Stargate production team John G. Lenic. He joined the team in 1996 as a production assistant and has remained with all incarnations of the franchise from SG-1, Atlantis and now SGU. He currently serves as a producer of the new series.

JG and I got to really hash out some of the most talked about issues revolving around SGU and address perhaps some of the most pressing questions surrounding the show as it enters its 5th week on the Syfy Network maybe even unlocking some of those questions you have been itching for even getting some insight into possibly explorations for Season 2 of the series.

Now I want to tell you there is no major spoilers in this interview there may be some light allusions of things to come but nothing that reveals anything special in the show’s future. We do not believe in spoilers and want to be just as surprised as you the readers for the coming episodes of the show...
