Loyd Bateman is best know around entertainment circles as a stunt performer in such films and TV shows like "Stargate Continuum," "Stargate Arc of Truth," "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," "Far Cry," "The Eye" "Max Steel," "The 4400," "Battlestar Galactica," "Samurai Girl," "Flash Gordon," "L Word," "Blood Ties," and so many more. He also has one distinction in which he is the envy of every male lover of "Stargate: Atlantis," the husband of Rachel Luttrell and father to their first child born this year.

Loyd is also a find actor and producer with his eye set on one day becoming a successful film director.

Our roving reporter Linda Craddock caught up with Loyd in Vancouver and sat down to talk with him about his future in show business and a revealing insight in just what it takes to become a successful stunt person.

... SoSF: All our fans are aware of "Stargate: Atlantis" getting canceled and you have appeared in a few of the episodes over the years as both an actor and stunt performer. Are there plans to have you involved with any of the remaining episodes for this final season? I know the buzz in now all about the Atlantis movies and it may be too early to tell, but given the opportunity would you want to be a part of that?

LB: Of course! If I have an opportunity to work in the movies I'll take it. They're actually shooting the last episode of "Stargate: Atlantis" now while we are talking. Tomorrow is the last day and then just a couple of 2nd unit days, but I haven't been on any episodes this season.

... SoSF: I will be looking forward to them and thanks Loyd for taking time to share with our Slice of SciFi audience.

Actress Erica Cerra stars as the no-nonsense, feisty deputy sheriff Jo Lupo on the very successful original SCI FI Channel series “Eureka,” which airs every Tuesday night.

Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Erica was a child actress appearing mainly in commercials before taking a break during her teenage years to concentrate on her school work. Eventually she restarted her career in show business, first on the stage, then with roles in television shows like “Special Unit 2,” “Jake 2.0,” “Smallville,” “Dead Like Me” and “Blade: Trinity.” More recently she has appeared in several episodes of “The L Word,” “Battlestar Galactica” and The CW’s “Reaper.”

Our Slice of SciFi reporter Linda Craddock was able to catch up with Erica on the busy and noisy set of “Eureka” to talk with her between takes during the shooting for the second half of season three. Erica took a few minutes to share some things fans can expect from the third season when it returns after a short hiatus. Linda’s big question to Erica was — Will there be a season four? We think you might like her answer.

Actor/writer Robin Dunne stars as psychiatrist Will Zimmerman in the highly anticipated SCI FI Channel series “Sanctuary.” The show, part science and part supernatural, follows the exploits of a mysterious physician and scientist who seeks out all manner of extraordinary and terrifying creatures to study them and redefine the reality in which we live. The series was originally developed for the internet and ran on the web before being acquired by SCI FI to produce original episodes. This year, Dunne also appeared in the film “Jack and Jill vs The World” alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. ...

... Our intrepid reporter Linda Craddock was able to sit down with Robin and talk with him about “Sanctuary,” which also stars Amanda Tapping, Emilie Ullerup, Christopher Heyerdahl and Ryan Robbins. The show airs every Friday on the SCI FI Channel at 10/9C. The interview took place at a busy local Toronto cafe so please forgive some of the minor background noise.

Our reporter Linda Craddock has been very busy these past few weeks rounding up interviews for all our fans of “Stargate: Atlantis,” the next Mummy film, the new television series “The Middleman” and more.

She recently sat in on an invitation-only press conference sponsored by the GE CORP AM INITIATIVES GROUP. The conference was attended by Linda and several other reporters as they asked questions of executive producer Joseph Mallozzi and actor Robert Picardo of “Stargate: Atlantis.”

The moderator for this conference was NBC’s Carol Janson and it was arranged by Michele Rosenblatt from the SCI FI Channel. It took place on July 1, 2008 at 12:00 pm CT.

Jamie Ruby: For both of you - what’s both your most favorite part of working on the show and your least favorite part?

Robert Picardo:...It’s not a secret, I think that the Star Trek producers were kind of ivory tower producers who rarely came down to the set to see the actors. In fact, if the producers came to the set, the actors’ response was normally uh-oh, you know, what did we do wrong.

But the Stargate producers visit the set all the time and there’s a very relaxed, you know, kind of easygoing atmosphere. They’ll pop down and say hello to us. They’re not located on the other side of the lot the way the Star Trek ones were at the other end of the Paramount lot, as far away from the sets as they could possibly get.

They’re just upstairs in the, you know, in the - in our main stage, the production office is. So I really like that - that it - what Joe described is, you know, the extended family thing is much more apparent to me here because they really do, you know, mom and dad really do come down to visit the kids on the set. And that’s, you know, that’s - that makes it a very relaxed atmosphere.

In April 2007 we were privileged to have “Stargate: Atlantis” star Rachel Luttrell as our special guest for the online and XM-Satellite Radio Slice of SciFi Show. We had such a good time that we asked Rachel if she would come back to Slice of SciFi sometime in the future.

Since that time Rachel has given birth to a beautiful son; while on the show, her character Teyla also gave birth.

With Season Five getting ready to return this Friday (July 11) we asked our roving reporter, Linda Craddock, to visit with Rachel while she was on the set of ‘Atlantis’ in Vancouver. What resulted was this great fun interview.


A brief excerpt:

SoSf: The scene in “Quarantine” what were you doing out on the window sill?

RL: I know… what was I doing on the windowsill? I know it was probably just instinct. I was quite pregnant at the time and I remember just getting up on that windowsill while we were shooting and I remember saying ‘what am I doing?’ But everything was fine I just had a very, very active pregnancy.

Paul was also able to tell us a little (a very, very little) about his role in the upcoming J.J. Abrams Star Trek film due out this coming May 2009.

A Slice of SciFi Interview With SGA's Joe Mallozzi

Joe Mallozi is the executive producer and a writer for the popular series "Stargate: Atlantis." This Vancouver, British Columbia resident was also a prominent writer for Atlantis' parent show, "Stargate: SG-1," the longest running U.S. sci-fi program in television history. Mallozi was one of the writer's responsible for SG-1's highly praised and fan-popular episode, "Window of Opportunity," that famous tribute to "Groundhog Day," set in the Gate-verse.

Right before the Christmas holiday our roving reporter Linda Craddock sat down with Joe and the two of them talked about the upcoming continuation of Season 4 of SGA and some of the things we can expect for Season 5.
