Julia Benson Interview - Stargate Magazine #34

An interview with Julia Benson featured in issue #34 of The Official Stargate SG-1/Atlantis/SGU Magazine.

Tough, compassionate, loyal, determined and, at times, like most human beings, a little too emotional—those are just some of the qualities belonging to Stargate Universe’s Lt. Vanessa James. She and several fellow soldiers—as well as dozens of scientists and civilians—found themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. Through no fault of their own they’ve ended up on a journey across the stars.

Along for the ride is actress Julia Benson, who happily put on James’ military fatigues and combat boots for a chance to help tell their story. Unlike the lieutenant, however, this is not the actress’ first trip through the Stargate.
“I’m a local actor from Vancouver and Stargate is a huge part of our film industry here and the [film and TV] community.

“I actually did an episode of Stargate Atlantis called Irresistible,” says Benson. “I’d auditioned quite a bit for the show before finally being cast as Richard Kind’s (playing Lucius Lavin) head wife, Willa. I just remember stepping onto the set and instantly feeling what an incredibly well-oiled machine it was. Everyone was so friendly and it was a very family-oriented place. That’s all been reaffirmed for me since coming to work on Universe. They’re amazing people here..."

Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer from Supernatural's 'Swan Song.'

May 12, 2010
by Natalie Abrams

It's the moment Supernatural fans have been waiting for all season: Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) is about to throw down with pretty much everyone. TVGuide.com caught up with Pellegrino, who says Lucifer is quite the sympathetic character. (Um, what about that whole wanting to destroy all of mankind thing?) The 45-year-old actor also gave us the details on Lucifer's journey to the apocalypse as well as the similarities between Lucifer and his character on Lost, Jacob.

A brief excerpt:

TVGuide.com: Everything has been leading up to the showdown between Michael and Lucifer. What has the journey been like for Lucifer?
Mark Pellegrino: It's been interesting because I go from a broken-hearted, blue-collar guy to a being that is far more powerful than even I thought. I never expected in a million years that Lucifer would be killing off pagan gods like they were nothing. [Laughs] I didn't know I was that powerful. He's on a mission, single-mindedly pursuing a goal and perhaps he'll achieve it.

Morena Baccarin interview: V, Firefly, Serenity and Shakespeare

by Simon Brew

Published on May 12, 2010

Morena Baccarin chats to us about her starring role in V, as well as squeezing in time for a bit of Firefly, Stargate and Shakespeare...

Morena Baccarin earned her geek stripes many years ago simply by jumping aboard the good ship Firefly. More recently though, she's been fronting up the new version of V as Anna, and it's her face that's been beaming down from the publicity posters. Here, she spared us some time to talk about the show, and what else she's up to...

A brief excerpt:

Can you tell us a little bit about what your reaction was to reading how they'd managed to update V when you took a look at the script?
First you feel that I hope it's going to be good. It's a remake of the show from the 80s that was very much about Nazi Germany, Nazi Youth programmes, the cold war stuff going on. When I read the script I thought I really hope they've updated it.

What they did is they contemporised the character so that Chad Decker, played by Scott Wolf, is an ambitious reporter, which is something we can all identify with.

There's multi-ethnic and cultural relationships in it, which is really great. And a priest, the idea of faith, and what we're playing with is wonderfully contemporised too.

And terrorism, which is something that we today are dealing with more than we were in the 80s.There's a really scary thing that you can't trust your neighbours and you don't really know who is with you and who is against you. I like that idea, that we are not safe in our own borders.
