How can fans of a struggling sci-fi show save it from cancelation? It's a question I get a lot, partly because Syfy has from time to time saved shows from cancelation, and partly because like every TV network we cancel our fair share of shows.

The No. 1 method of choice for fans trying to save a show is writing letters/e-mails to the network that airs the show. This worked back in the '60s to keep the original Star Trek on the air for a while, and according to this article it may have had an impact on a few shows since then.

It's not your best bet though, because today EVERY canceled show has a write-in campaign, often accompanied by some clever item...Jericho fans sent peanuts, Lexx fans sent dragonflies, etc. It's so pervasive that it's become background noise. People even start write-in campaigns if we change a show's timeslot, or if an actor leaves a show. Right now there are containers of Fluff in the kitchen of our sibling network USA because fans are protesting the fact that Vincent D'Onofrio is leaving Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I took a picture of the Fluff with my iPhone so you can see [photo at the link above]. To save a show you need real impact, and you can't get that by doing the same thing everyone else is doing...

They're back! That is, Heroes, Dollhouse, Ghost Hunters International, Ghost Whisperer, Legend of the Seeker, Sanctuary and Medium are all back with new episodes. Chuck's even back with a new season, and Battlestar Galactica is back with a new movie.

Here's what we have to look forward to on sci-fi and paranormal TV this week.



... Sanctuary (Syfy), Friday at 10 p.m.

Druitt's back, but did he commit murder?

Sanctuary returns with the final episodes of the second season. In "Haunted," Magnus (Amanda Tapping), Druitt and the team save the passengers and crew of a ship sinking off the coast of South Africa. However, after the refugees are teleported to the safety of the Sanctuary, one of them is brutally murdered and Druitt (Christopher Heyerdahl) becomes the key suspect in the crime.

"If you are fans of Druitt and Magnus and their star-crossed relationship, you don't want to miss that one," said executive producer Damian Kindler. "It features a lot about the Sanctuary and a lot of the history of John Druid. A very intense episode. If you like Jack the Ripper served up heavy, you're going to like this episode."

Tamoh Penikett bids farewell to 'Battlestar Galactica' and Grace Park

Tamoh Penikett has come a long way for a boy from Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon Territory.

"Not bad at all for a little boy from the Yukon," Penikett says. "Where my mother was born is the coldest recorded temperature in North America, so I know about cold."

This Friday, March 20, his character on Fox's "Dollhouse," FBI Agent Paul Ballard, has a big episode -- coming face to face with "doll" Echo (Eliza Dushku) for the first time -- but Penikett is also competing with himself, as Sci Fi Channel airs the final two hours of the critically acclaimed "Battlestar Galactica."

In the series' conclusion, "Daybreak, Part II" (Part 1 aired last week and repeats at 8 p.m. EST, right before the finale), members of the Galactica crew embark on a mission to rescue Hera, the half-human/half-Cylon daughter of human pilot Karl "Helo" Agathon and Cylon Sharon "Athena" Agathon (Grace Park), who has been kidnapped and taken to the Cylon colony, which perches on the edge of a black hole ...
