The Stargate action figure line has already delivered six assortments (that's over 44 individual figures!) but Diamond Select Toys isn't finished with the intrepid cast of Stargate SG-1 just yet! Previewed here for the first time are some of the stars of the next release - Stargate SG-1 Series 5!

Air Force Jack O'Neill: Featuring O'Neill in his highly decorated US Air Force uniform, a highly requested fan-favorite depiction.



Black Ops Samantha Carter: Joining her previously released "Black Ops" SG-1 teammates, this figure is based on the season 2 premiere "The Serpent's Lair."



Horus Guard: The nefarious cousin to the traditional Serpent Guard, these misguided Jaffa served the family of Ra, including Ra himself and his son Heru'ur.

General George Hammond: At last joining his team in action figure form, the late three-star Lieutenant General is depicted in his US Air Force uniform.



Ba'al: Based on the Season 10 episode "The Quest," the scheming and conniving Ba'al is a former System Lord and the last of the Goa'uld.



As with past releases, each figure in this assortment will be accompanied by pieces of a key Stargate accessory - this time in the form of Stargate Command's armored and weaponized reconnaisance drone, the U.A.V. As a special bonus, a limited case topper figure will also be available from your local comic store in the form of Black Ops Cameron Mitchell.

Sunday's passing of actor Don S. Davis came as a shock to his family and friends, and also to those of us in the Stargate world who consider ourselves something of an "extended family," and to the entire Vancouver film community. Many of us met him at conventions, or on the set of one of his many projects. A few of us even had the privilege of getting to know him personally.

But all of us, all Stargate fans, came to know Don Davis as Major General George Hammond, the leader and father figure to SG-1 and Stargate Command. While the SG-1 team got all the storylines and fan attention, Don reported for duty each day to put in a steady and vital performance as the General -- the man who sent good people on dangerous missions, always wishing that he himself did not have to stay behind.

If there’s one thing I’ll always remember about the man, it was his willingness to put others before him. Back when Rick was reducing his workload to spend more time with his young daughter, and the writing department was scrambling to come up with in-story reasons for O’Neill’s off-world absences, Don came up to offices and offered a solution. “Have Hammond step aside and let O’Neill be General,” he suggested. I was floored. Here was a guy, perfectly willing to walk away from a plum role as a regular on a hit series, just to (in his mind) make it easier on everyone else. Of course we thanked him for his kind offer, but we weren’t willing to let George Hammond go just yet.

In my many years at Stargate, I’ve worked with many actors whose company I have greatly enjoyed, but only a few would I actually be bold enough to call my friends. And among those few was the magnanimous southern gent who used to greet me with that familiar “Hellooo, Joooe!”, the always affable Don S. Davis.

He’ll be missed.

Davis is one of the many versatile, unheralded character actors to have moved through Hollywood in relative anonymity. I wouldn't say he was a phenomenal talent, though he was certainly very good, but it so happens that he played two pivotal roles on two television shows that, more than any other works of art, shaped my taste in movies and stories when I was a young teenager.

SG-1's producer, Joe Mallozzi shared that his favorite memory of Davis' was watching him work the conventions with fans. Many fans approached the General with trepidation (because of his character) but Davis was always incredibly charming with the fans and won them over immediately. Mallozzi also added that Davis was a true friend and, "had a bigger heart than his character that he played... and will be missed not just by the fans but by everyone who worked with him."

I always loved Davis, and his portrayal of Hammond was both commanding and fatherly. He had a great career, and was an acting force in the ’80s and ’90s on television with roles on the hottest shows of the time. He will be missed.

I am personally saddened by his passing as I am a longtime fan of his character on “Stargate: SG1.” He played the commander of Stargate command for seven seasons and was fantastic in the role, alternating between stern commander and more lenient father figure. After he left the show, or stopped being a regular, it always felt like something was missing.

I am deeply sad to see him go and though I didn’t know him personally I enjoyed his grandfather/father-like persona on the show and will always remember him has the caring and honorable Major General George Hammond.

The Ranger, The Cook and a Hole In The Sky

The Ion channel (the former PAX channel on Broadcast Television) is airing the '95 made-for-tv movie, "The Ranger, The Cook and a Hole in the Sky" on Saturday, March 26 at 9pm.



This movie co-stars the excellent Sam Elliott and Jerry O'Connell and some familiar faces from Stargate SG-1: Don S. Davis (Maj. Gen. George Hammond), Robert Wisden (Maj./Col. Samuels), Tom Butler (Maj. Gen. Trotsky in "Out of Mind," and "Into the Fire"), Jay Brazeau (Harlan - "Tin Man" and "Double Jeopardy"), Alan C. Peterson (SG1's "Demons" and SGA's "Condemned") and Frank Cassini ("Sentinel").

This is a fantastic movie, and I urge everyone to tune in and watch.
