Stargate Universe - Collider: Robert C. Cooper Video Interview

Co-Creator/Writer/Executive Producer Robert Cooper Exclusive Video Interview STARGATE UNIVERSE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub

At this year’s Comic-Con, I was able to speak with a few cast members of Syfy’s hit show Stargate Universe. As I’ve said a few times, I never watched any of the previous Stargate shows, but I’ve been very impressed with SGU (Stargate Universe). Since the show has only aired one full season and it doesn’t return until late September, I really recommend renting/buying the first season and catching up. It’s absolutely worth it.

Anyway, over the last few days I posted my exclusive interviews with David Blue and Robert Carlyle, and tonight I’ve got the last one and it’s with Co-Creator/Writer/Executive Producer Robert Cooper. During the interview, Cooper talked about how SGU is different from the previous shows, do they have a five year plan, how far ahead have they scripted, he compares the next twenty episodes to the first twenty, what percentage of Destiny has been explored, he reveals some of the storylines of season two, and a lot more. If you’re a fan of SGU, you’ll love the interview.

SDCC 2010 exclusive: Amanda Tapping previews 'Sanctuary' Season 3

by Curt Wagner on 07.27.10

Helen Magnus, Will Zimmerman, Henry Foss, Kate Freelander and the Big Guy will go on an "epic journey" in Season 3 of "Sanctuary."

Epic is really the only way the Syfy series can go after the extraordinary cliffhanger that ended Season 2: Big Bertha set off a series of giant tidal waves that could flood the world.

"It's quite mysterious actually what happens," producer-star and sometimes director Amanda Tapping told me at San Diego Comic Con, saying they will take some time to figure out the situation, "because we don't actually understand what happened."

The resolution of the Big Bertha fallout is only one of a few major story arcs this season, which consists of 20 episodes instead of just 13 like the first two seasons. It's an epic season indeed for the groundbreaking series.

Tapping and I sat down for a chat after the "Sanctuary" panel where a funny Season 2 recap/Season 3 preview was presented, and it was also announced that Polly Walker from "Caprica" will guest star on "Sanctuary."

Enjoy the two-part interview with Tapping and the preview, and watch for my exclusive interviews with Robin Dunne and Ryan Robbins.

Interview: Robert Carlyle Talks Stargate Universe Season 2, His Approach to Acting and Some Soccer

By Kevin Coll • August 2, 2010

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting and sitting down with legendary screen actor, Robert Carlyle at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and man was it a treat. As many of you know I try to get informal and real with anyone I get to talk to on this site because of our mission to create a window into these talented entertainers lives. Robert was gracious enough not only to set us up for Season 2 of SGU and what to expect with his character, Dr. Nicolas Rush but also how he approaches characters in acting, the techniques he implores and finally what he does when he is not acting and working. One of the most interesting topics he discusses is his one the most emotional moments he has had in acting.

It was a real honor to sit down with one the most talented and real actors in the business today and something I will never forget. As far as SGU is concerned, Carlyle, told me that Season 2 will show us a bit more of Rush’s history but also how he finds more secrets of the ship. Lastly he and Col. Young will have some heart to heart moments off world this season that he says, “is some the best two episodes of this season.” Be vary that some of the information is spoiler-ish so feel free to fast forward if you choose but consider yourself warned.

I also got a chance to talk to series producer, Robert Cooper, briefly while waiting for my interview with Carlyle to begin and he told me that “this season we find the bridge to the ship, and there will be more aliens and this type of things explored within in the series but also you really get to see what the true mission of the Destiny really was or is.”

Season 2 of Stargate Universe is already halfway done shooting and will premiere this October on Syfy. Season 1 of SGU is now available on Blu-ray and DVD at your local retailer.

We will be posting two more interviews with Ming Na and David Blue over the next couple of weeks. As of now enjoy one the best interviews we have done on this site.

Both on screen and off, Alaina Huffman, star of Stargate Universe is a soldier. As Lt. Tamara Johansen, Huffman plays the compassionate and very pregnant love interest of Colonel Everett Young (Justin Louis). However, what most people don’t realize is that Huffman was not just “acting” the part of a pregnant woman. Her off-screen pregnancy was actually scripted into the story.

In this interview, Huffman discusses her role as Lt. Tamara Johansen as well as Stargate Universe Season 2 and her relationships Camile Wray (Ming-Na) and Young. She also discusses what it was like to be covered in blood makeup, while she was pregnant.

SDCC 2010 EXCLUSIVE: Sanctuary Season 3 Cast Interviews

July 28th, 2010

One of Syfy's hit series is about to get bigger and better for its upcoming third season. We reported back in December that Syfy handed out a third-season order to Sanctuary, which will return to the Syfy airwaves later this year. The show was given a 20-episode order (as opposed to the first two seasons' 13-episode orders) and the show has returned to San Diego for Comic-Con to promote the popular series. We spoke to stars Amanda Tapping (Helen Magnus), Ryan Robbins (Henry Foss) along with executive producer Damian Kindler at the Con.

Sanctuary, which also stars Robin Dunne, Christopher Heyerdahl, Emilie Ullerup and Agam Darshi, will return to the SyFy network this fall, airing on Friday nights.

If you watch SGU, you know Blue plays Eli Wallace – the former slacker that’s a computer/mathematics/video game expert. During the interview, Blue talks about being back at Comic-Con, his addiction to twitter, how has filming been going on season two and what can he reveal, how he prepares for each episode, and how has season two been different from season one.

SDCC 2010 exclusive: Ming-Na on 'Stargate Universe

by Curt Wagner on 07.29.10

Ming-Na cracked up "Stargate Universe" fans during the Syfy series' panel at San Diego Comic Con over the weekend, talking about her "iPrecious" and "getting stoned."

Of course that's a joke; she means when her "SGU" character, Camille Wray, uses the communication stones to go back to Earth. I was able to chat with her a little more about what's in store for Camille in Season 2 right after the panel--which included Robert Carlyle, Alaina Huffman, David Blue and exec producer and panel moderator Robert Cooper.

by Curt Wagner on 08.01.10

"Sanctuary" fans, get ready to see more of Henry Foss--a lot more of Ryan Robbins.

"I don't have magic denim shorts that appear when I transform back from being a werewolf," Robbins joked at San Diego Comic Con, telling me that Henry, both as a werewolf and as the man, will have a lot to do in Season 3 of "Sanctuary..."

... Robbins talks more about making Robin Dunne uncomfortable, Henry and [at the link above] you can watch the entire SDCC "Sanctuary" panel with Robbins, Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Damian Kindler and moderator Josh Gates from "Destination Truth."

Teal'c Talk with Christopher Judge

News Saturday, July 17 by Captain

Christopher Judge has more charisma in his left finger than most people produce in a lifetime. It's an eerie, indisputable fact. Thus to have an interview with him is to get the full force of the realisation that no, he is not a quiet, carefully worded warrior with a penchant for the perfectly placed eyebrow raise. Not at all.

He is "indeed" an actor who loves his job, loves life and loves being a part of the Stargate family. What he doesn't love is polar bears. Because they can eat you.

When the time came for the cast and crew to head to the Arctic circle to shoot Stargate: Continuum, Christopher was left behind, safe in the knowledge that he would not be left as a red smear on the polar ice by some hungry white beast. He unfortunately missed out on seeing a gigantic naval sub smash through the pack ice, but then he also missed out being stuck in huts in sub zero temperatures and having to have a chap with a hunting rifle shadow you every time you went out.

Sensible chap, that.

We spoke with him on a recent visit to Australia about all things Teal'c, and he gave us the goods about "indeed", how the Zat gun got its pronunciation, his writing efforts on the show and more...

EXCLUSIVE Stargate Universe Video Interviews – Day Five

09/07/2010

Season one of Stargate Universe hits DVD and Blu-ray this week and, to celebrate, we’re hosting an exclusive series of interviews with the cast filmed on the set of the Destiny!

For your final batch of interviews we have another video from the charming Lou Diamond Phillips, this time discussing what it’s like to work with the rest of the Stargate Universe cast. Keeping him company is Alaina Huffman – the Destiny’s reluctant doctor rather fittingly sitting in the infirmary to discuss her character, and wearing an outfit we’ll probably never see Tamara Johansen (TJ for short) wearing on the show… alas!

EXCLUSIVE Stargate Universe video interviews – Day Four: Lou Diamond Phillips

Season one of Stargate Universe hits DVD and Blu-ray this week and, to celebrate, we’re hosting an exclusive series of interviews with the cast filmed on the set of the Destiny!

Lou Diamond Phillips plays the enigmatic Colonel David Telford, the military man stuck back on Earth who should’ve been leading the team instead of Young – although he does get to swap bodies with him from time to time, thanks to some handy alien body-switching pebbles (as Phillips says, “You need stones to play this character!”). We chat to him about Telford and what drew him to work on TV.

Robert Carlyle talks Stargate Universe

From Trainspotting to planet-hopping

BY Jayne Nelson Jul 7th 2010

Robert Carlyle is a legend in the Total Film office, so we jumped at the chance to pay him a flying visit on the Vancouver set of Stargate Universe.

Stargate Universe, or SGU, is the second spin-off from the TV show that was itself spun off Roland Emmerich’s blockbuster movie. Seems you can’t keep a good concept down these days.

Carlyle stars as Dr Nicholas Rush, a scientific genius who finds himself stuck on the Destiny - a millions of years old alien spaceship - along with a bunch of human refugees fleeing an attack on their base.

He’s a shifty sort, true, but he’s the only person capable of figuring out how to fly the ship – which obviously comes in handy.

To celebrate the release of the first season on DVD and Blu-ray, we had a chat with Carlyle in the ship’s infirmary set (bloodstains not pictured).

Sporting an ‘Argentina’ jacket – the World Cup was a big topic of conversation among the cast, although nobody seemed to be supporting England, unsurprisingly enough – Carlyle chatted about his new show, science fiction fans and the joys of working in far-flung Canada instead of his native Scotland...

07/07/2010

Season one of Stargate Universe hits DVD and Blu-ray this week and, to celebrate, we’re hosting an exclusive series of interviews with the cast filmed on the set of the Destiny!

Today’s interview is with Brian J Smith, aka Lt Matthew Scott. He’s a capable solider and the guy you’d definitely want on your side during any trouble – of which there’s a lot on board the Destiny! He’s also a bit of a lothario. Check out these clips in which Smith gives us the lowdown on Scott and on how weird it is to film a sex scene…
