Stargate Atlantis - Vortex Magazine: Big Finish Audio Dramas - FREE Magazine!

At Vortex Magazine:

Welcome to the first issue of VORRRRTEEEEEEXXXX!

Those of you who haven’t been listening to the Big Finish Podcasts will just think I’ve accidentally leant rather heavily on my keyboard there... But those of you who have listened will know exactly how to say the title of this new Big Finish magazine. You’ll have to imagine the echo and dramatic music yourself, I’m afraid – although playing the Superman theme while shouting in the bath may approximate the effect.

Anyway, here it is at last, an online magazine devoted to the many audio worlds of Big Finish. Each month, you’ll be able to find out exactly what we’ll be releasing in the year ahead, and we’ll be aiming to give you the most revealing, in-depth behind-the-scenes features and interviews possible.

Sadly, I can’t claim to have given any in-depth insights into Stargate in my feature this issue, but that’s because I’ve only just dipped my toe into that particular world. But that’s also one of the aims of this magazine, to give you a chance to find out about our other audio ranges.

And finally, a plea for your help... Let us know what you think of VORTEX, tell us what you want to see in it and write in with any feedback on VORTEX or any of our productions. I know you can already contribute to the forums or get your emails read out on the podcasts, but in this truly interactive age of interwebby stuff you simply can’t have enough feedback from your audience. It’s you who make our productions possible, so don’t hesitate to have your say by e-mailing enquiries [at] bigfinish.com

And now, enter the VORRRRTEEEEEEXXXX...

Nick Briggs – executive producer

Stargate Atlantis - Big Finish Productions - Impressions Teaser Sequence

From author Scott Andrews' web site, eclectica:

(Please follow the link for the complete sequence.)

Impressions: the teaser sequence

(For the NEW Big Finish Production Stargate Atlantis audio drama, Impressions, starring Kavan Smith [Maj. Evan Lorne].)

I was given permission to post the teaser sequence to Impressions here on the blog when it was announced, and since details appeared on the Big Finish website today, here goes:

A brief excerpt:

ACT 1

SCENE 1

Neutral, narrating space.

LORNE:Light and shade.

The dappled green of forest leaves. The splashes of white foam on dark grey seas. The pools of light that collect like water in the fissures of a rock face.

Light and shade, colour and form; that’s how I try to see the world. The boundaries between one thing and another. The distinctions.

Anybody who carries a gun in the name of peace needs to be comfortable with shades of grey. I live in no man’s land, surrounded by water and working under fire. Caught between extremes.

This is what I try to capture in paint on canvas. It’s like trying to bottle lightning. But it helps ...

Torchwood - BBC: Lost Souls Audio Download

At BBC (UK):

Torchwood: Lost Souls Download

Brought to you by BBC Wales and Afternoon Play a one off episode of Torchwood.

"Somewhere out there in that chaos of darkness and light, of science and protons, of gods and stars and death... somewhere there's an answer."

The Torchwood Institute was founded by Queen Victoria in 1879 to protect the British Empire against the threat of alien invasion. By 2008, all that remains of the organisation is a small team based in Cardiff. And now, following the tragic deaths of two of their colleagues, the remaining three - Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones - have to protect the human race against another unknown force from the darkness.

Martha Jones, ex-time traveller and now working as a doctor for a UN task force, has been called to CERN - the world's largest particle physics laboratory in Geneva - where they're about to activate the Large Hadron Collider. The LHC is a particle accelerator, which has been built deep underground in a 27 km tunnel under Switzerland and France. Once activated the Collider will fire beams of protons together recreating conditions a billionth of a second after the Big Bang - and potentially allowing the human race a greater insight into what the Universe is made of. But so much could go wrong - it could open a gateway to a parallel dimension, or create a black hole - and now voices from the past are calling out to people and scientists have started to disappear...

Where have the missing scientists gone? What is the secret of the glowing man? What is lurking in the underground tunnel? And do the dead ever really stay dead?

Lost Souls is a spin-off from the award-winning BBC Wales TV production Torchwood. It stars John Barrowman, Freema Agyeman, Eve Myles, Gareth David-Lloyd, Lucy Montgomery (of Titty Bang Bang) and Stephen Critchlow.

Well I wrapped out of the mid-season two parter today - my final scenes before summer hiatus. There's still a week of production before the break, but I got let out early for good behaviour. It's been a fun episode to shoot - and a great script -finally getting some screen time with the very fine Rachel Luttrell.

Next up: a guest spot on Sanctuary, (Thanks, Martin Wood!) That's going to be fun - I've never been to the Hindu Kush Mountains before. Then there's the second of the audio dramas I'm doing with Big Finish. I did one last week and the script was really really good. And they're a lot of fun to do. I think you'll like them a lot.
